Good afternoon Ghoulies!

Spent the afternoon hiking. Took the husband, the kiddos, and each kiddo took a friend. We hiked about 4 miles, on 4 different trails. We started up a STEEP trail, only about .75 miles to a place called Pole's Steeple (pictures on FB later). Then we hit an old fireman's road down to the Appalachian Trail and took that down hill to where we hit a road. Down the road a little ways there was a foot trail that winds around a stream Caleb and I have fished in several times.

It was a great day to hike, a little overcast, not real hot or humid. The kiddos were great! No whining or complaining, just talking, giggling, snacking, and peeing in the woods.

We ran into 3 thru hikers and talked them them for a few minutes. They started in Georgia on March 4, and would have just passed the halfway point earlier today. They had about 6 more miles to go before they camped for the night. They are doing about 25 miles a day. We wished them well and let them go, didn't want to hold them up for too long. It was a good day.

Sounds like a fantastic day all around! Every day should be like that.

Morning ghoulies,

I am in Wilmington now. Drove most of the day yesterday to get here. Today was my day off and I figured, if I had to work, I would do it on Sunday and spend the day here today. Tomorrow is teaching a course all day, then another one in Raleigh on Thursday. I got here last night and walked a mile or so to the restaurant on the pier on the beach. A lovely dinner in the salt wind and then a walk back with the super-moon+1 rising over the ocean.

Today I'll either ride to Arlie Gardens if I can get the nerve to brave the traffic, (which is really incredibly light for what most people ride in) or just ride up and down the beach road.

Wow!  That sounds nice!  Enjoy!

I had a good run yesterday.  My last major workout before my 10K on Saturday.  I was okay with the distance and even the hills were pretty good.  My pace is slower than it was last fall, but the event will still be super fun!

Doesn't matter that you were slower, you were still moving.

I rode... on the road...  by myself!!!!

I wasn't even that scared. Though they have wide roads here, it is flat so cars can see you and there are some bike lanes. but still

I rode on the road and wasn't terrified!

For the record - little girl's softball games are going to be the death of me!

I get excited for my son's soccer games, and get frustrated when the refereeing is bad, but I'm way worse with softball. At last night's game the other team had a pitcher who had a pretty fast fastball, little in the way of accuracy though. The umpire didn't seem to know the rules to our league though. He gave the pitcher a VERY generous strike zone, I'm talking the ball was below the knees at mid shin and he was calling strikes. He was consistent, but that's NOT a strike. We had a girl hit the ball and get called out at first even though she beat the throw by a full step. He also allowed the other team's runner to score even though the ball was dead. Stuff like that does not make for an enjoyable game.

Our girls were down 2-4 going into the bottom of the last inning. The other team still had their starting pitcher in, 4 innings is a lot for a little girl. She still had zip on her ball, but she wasn't anywhere near the plate. In our league you either hit the ball or you strike out, you don't walk. If the count is 3-0, or 4-1 or 4-2, the batter's coach comes in and pitches to them. Since the other team's pitcher couldn't find the plate our coach pitched to the girls. We won the game 7-4. There is a 5 run per inning rule or our girls would have scored more, we still had girls on the bases when the game ended.

Saturday the girls play 2 games in some sort of scrimmage thing. I may need to start drinking on Friday night to take the edge off.

Robin, I just read the news report from last night's elections. PA passed a similiar measure a little while back. I feel sorry for the narrow minded people of our states. If you don't want to support it, then fine, leave it alone, but I don't see the purpose in making it illegal. The only marriage that is any of my business is my own, I don't really care who other people marry, or what they do behind closed doors.

Love is never wrong.

Morning. Got my run in a long the beach road with all the beach to battleship trainees this morning. I ran beside some of he swimmers. Whoosh! They are fast. The bikers and other runners, too. I felt like their grandmother. Funny, the serious trainers all had at least a smile for me. The college agers trying to impress the world couldn't even nod their heads. Funny.

I am off to Raleigh today.
