I remember those from '84! A friend had a VW Rabbit that ran on veggie oil!

2008 Volvo C30. I get mid-20s if I lay off the accelerator, but it's got a turbo on it so I can suck down gas like nobody's business if I drive it like it wants me to. My first tank averaged 17mpg.

Oh, and I can fit the bike in the back.

I just bought a 2008 BMW 335xi late May.

WOW - the car is absolutely awesome - 0-60 in 5.4 and I am getting 22.4 MPG in mixed driving.

2004 VW Tourag, also raced several years with a Honda CRV. Both great for tris...no taking wheels off, plenty of room for gear, a husband and dog too!

Volvo cross country wagon with full Yakima system on top. It's a turbo so it's not super great on gas mileage but it's zippy and doesn't feel like you're driving a station wagon. With two kids and six bikes you don't have a lot of options - this one works well for us.

I don't post much but this is something I've been researching.

I drive an 03 Audi A6 and a bike with the front wheel off and a seat folded fits in the truck.  I drive 98% freeway and get 28-29 mpg's.  Good car but add two kids under 3 and it gets crowded.

A really cool one...1984 TDT Wagon with Lovecraft veggie oil conversion. The Mazola Benz: $1.00 a gallon, 28 to 30 mpg, rides like a cruise ship. Don't try to use it as a get-away car 0-60 in 45 seconds but it will cruise at 80 once Newton's laws take over.

Another vote for a 'ru....hit 100K yesterday

I have a 2001 Subaru Outback.... with roofrack on top (with step stool to reach).... though if I want I can fit my bike in the back without folding down the seats (I'm small - & take off the front tire) or my skiis (once again without folding the seat).... Can also fit my 103lb mutt in the back too... she loves it

Can't imagine getting a nice big SUV, though it would make family vaca's more comfy, I would then have to haul a step ladder to reach the racks....

One note of caution to roofers....   DON'T FORGET YOUR BIKE ON TOP!!!!!!

Acura RSX Type S

24mpg in daily driving, 0-60 in 6, and carries two bikes and a decent amount of gear (with the hitch mounted rack).

What's not to love?

2006 Mini Cooper.  I still haven't figured out what kind of bike rack to get.  I'm leaning toward a roof rack since they look cool on the Mini, but I'm not thrilled about shelling out the $$ for it.  As it it now, the bike fits without the front wheel, but occupies the entire back and most of the passenger front seat area.  There isn't a whole lot of room for anything else.

2008 Toyota Tundra CrewMax.  OPEC is happy with my decision (14 MPG average) but have plenty of room in the back for bikes.  I need the truck for hauling my trailer an other things for work.

And the backseats are HUGE.

I drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse.  If I fold the back seat down I can easily fit all my tri gear and my bike without taking off the front wheel.  It was cheap and gas mileage averages in the low 30s.

I was driving behind one of these the other day (I knew it was a veggie oil because the guy had stickers proudly proclaiming that his car ran on veggie oil) and the exhaust fumes smelled like fried food. Made me kind of hungry. Pretty cool. Do you just get used oil from restaurants or how does that work?

BTW - I drive a '99 Ford Taurus.

2001 Honda Civic LX sedan. Love it. Slap on the trunk mount rack and go. Honda reliablity--zero mechanical problems so far (sound of knocking on wood). 30 mpg city 35+hwy.

ULEV=Ultra Low Emission Vehicle

My "green" car is green.

I love my 2001 Honda Civic LX. Mine is also green (how funny that we have the same car). Gas mileage is great and the trunk is rather large.
