She said they were adding one at 4pm on Saturday as well. And nobody is going to die out there. |

In all fairness, that bike course looks confusing... especially with Oly/sprint going one way and the 125 taking another route. I can easily see people cutting/missing that section. They should put a timing mat in that out-and-back section. |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread Triacy - 2013-04-09 8:47 PM I am so not ready for this Leadman half. I might not do the run and pull out. I couldn't down grade because I missed the window. I sure hope I don't die. Don't be scared of the run...it is quite a good course and should be a lot of fun! 3 miles of it is on pavement, only part thru the trails in Papago and some on the cross cut canal. A nice mix. Of course I am only saying that because I ran it last week on semi fresh legs. After the swim and 76 miles of biking...should be a whole different story...and it's going to be warm out! BUT, compared to running the same ole course around Tempe Town lake, I'd rather run the trails! I've been nervous all week due to the change in weather and the dip in temp of Tempe Town Lake. I had previously rented a sleeveless wetsuit and was starting to freak that it wouldn't be warm enough. Exchanged it today for a sleeved suit at Triple Sports (they are so awesome there!) and now feel MUCH better! I don't like the cold water much and was cold last year at Marquee in a sleeveless. Gonna try it out at the Splash n Dash tomorrow night!! Taper, rest, eat and let's be thankful we can even get out there to do this crazy stuff! So many people I know are battling injuries/issues and cannot race, so I feel blessed (even with all my setbacks this winter) to be able to even start! |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread Tempe Town Lake will be close to 70 degrees on Sunday morning. Sleeveless would have been fine, unless you REALLY hate cooler temps. |

Veteran 267 Avondale | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread I am getting very anxious about this race. The longest I have previously done is Olympic distance. I have followed the training plan pretty diligently (only missed two weekday workouts) since the first of the year. My coach says I am ready. I just not see the improvements in myself and REALLY don't want to miss the bike cut-off. I guess this time Sunday I will have proven my coach right! Remember, if you pass a really tall guy in one of the upper age groups moving really slowly, be kind as you pass him and feel free to say, "Hey, Mike!" |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread WHAT??? interesting! Wish the swim was short...that would be good news! Just got back from Splash N Dash. Water was fine in the long sleeved wetsuit...some people swimming in just their swim suits/tri kits. Wish I was better in the water...my swim stinks. Just can't seem to catch my breath and takes me at least 300-500 m to find any sort of a rhythm. Sunday will be interesting! Will look forward to a few less miles on the bike and the trail run! |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread What shoes are you all wearing?? I go back and forth between my trail and regular Brooks street running shoes. While most of the trail wasn't too technical, I was glad I had my trail shoes for part of it, but think I could get away with my regular road shoes if I needed to. My trail shoes aren't that great on the pavement, but they are super awesome on the dirt. Since like 1/3 of the race is on pavement, 1/3 on trail, and 1/3 on canal path, I guess I could go either way. Been training in both so just thought I'd ask. You can tell I'm in taper crazy mode by obsessing about everything!! |

RSG, I am glad I am not the only one in crazy mode! I am driving my wife crazy with my craziness! I am wearing my street running shoes. I have no visions of running the entire run course, so the technical parts will be my designated walk sections. |

I have to give a shout out to my swim/Tri coach Frank Sole because I never would have been successful today with training left to my own devices! It was a good day! |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread WTG to all finishers in Leadman/Marquee!! unofficial time for me: 6:43:37 I fought with my goggles for about 3/4 of the swim and will probably have an eye infection in my right eye due to the amount of lake water it came in contact with...so frustrating! BUT, I didn't have breathing problems or freak out like I did at the Splash and Dash so that is good! Bike went well - after all the crazy fast bikers from Leadman/Oly/Sprint passed me on the 2nd loop, I found a pretty good rhythm and was able to pace myself pretty well. BUT, developed a nasty side cramp/pain on 3rd loop that never went away. Run was not really a run, more of a hike or walk for me. The cramp/pain in my side got worse and prevented me from running much until the very end. Felt like I had a knife in my side and hurt so bad! I loved the course was wasn't able to enjoy it. Due to all the walking I don't think I'll be very sore physically, but despite several sunscreen applications, I'm still sunburnt to a crisp! Ouch! I think Lifetime did a great job! I thought it was very organized, the volunteers were awesome, there was always ice and cold water (even for the walkers on the run course:-))! I like all the goodies we got too - Visor, transition mat, cool t-shirt! Great job everyone...it was a hot one today!! |

Veteran 263 Goodyear | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread Finished 6:30:43 by my watch. That included transition time too. What a tough course! I am sunburned and bruised up. Congratulation to all the participates! On the swim I couldn't catch my breath. Not sure why. I have never had that happen before. It messed with my strokes and bilateral breathing. But, overall I did well. The bike was scary and kind of freaked me out with so many sharp turns (not used to the turns). Saw three wipe outs on bikes. Saw one car accident. Very busy out on the streets today. Fourth loop hit some head wind. But, overall bike went well. I did all the right stuff for the rolling buffet. Took in the right amount of nutrition. Drank like a horse (Gatorade and water). Last loop took another salt tablet because I felt cramps coming on. It did the trick! The run was OK. I could of used my trail shoes. It was very, very hot! At transition I iced a shirt to change into when I got off the bike. It FELT so good. But, it dried out before getting on the trail. Did a walk run at the beginning because I was having breathing issues again. My legs were good but my lungs were shutting down. I think the pollen was bothering me. But at the turn around I ran back because I felt better. Could of used my inhaler (forgot it). The salt tablets worked AWESOME! Took another one on the run. Took my own bottle water with me and kept filling it up with ice. I had to pour it on me just to keep my body temperature down. Would I do this race again. YES! Because I like the challenge and it was well staff with so many volunteers. Leadman did an awesome job! Edited by Triacy 2013-04-14 11:24 PM |

Expert 3145 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread I just did the Oly but it was way less than stellar but I wasn't expecting a whole lot considering I've only been back swimming for the past month since my last shoulder dislocation. Still though, it showed I need to get my butt into the water (especially OWS) a LOT more or I'll never get where I want to go. 5th AG bike and it's time for a tri bike and all the aero goodies finally, the roadie days are over after today 4th AG run. I was melting a bit and fell a bit short of my sub 40 goal but I'm content considering how horrible my swim was and it set me up bad for the rest of the day. 30th AG swim. That my friends is how it is not done and how you end up chasing a pack all day long. |

BUT....with all that, it was another finish and anytime you can finish a race without permanent injury or equipment damage, it is a BIG win. Congrats to Elliot who took 2nd OA in the Oly distance!! Edited by 101abp40 2013-04-15 9:09 AM |
