So I upped my goal so that I am at 72%. I still have at least 3 runs planned for this month. First time that I have had to up my goal. How fun is that?! |

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: February Pick-Your-Goals Challenge I enjoy watching other swimmers at the pool as much for inspiration & good technique as for examples of what not to do with my own workout. On the days with Master swimmers there is a pretty obvious demarcation with half our lanes are used by 40 efficient and fast swimmers zipping down the pool . with a coach on deck barking numbers and splits . Most recreational lap swimmers in the lanes that i swim in , swim at the same pace and in general don't appear to do any intervals drills or vary pace . And usually its easy to tell folks new to the pool as they wear swimming parachutes aka board shorts or some trait that is unique in their swimming . Today there was this new swimmer next to me in the "fast lane" who was working the hardest out of all that were swimming (no masters today) with furious kick and smacking the water with each and every arm entry , but with all this water displacement the forward speed was pretty modest . i enjoy guessing if a newcomer's early fast pace is likely to be reliable guide of what pace they will swim at or wether the early hard work will tire them out and they will be catching their breath at the wall , To be followed by bailing out of the pool 20 mins later . During my kick sets and drills and breaks at the wall i checked in to see if this swimmer had faded. But No i had guessed wrong ! the smacking and splashing from the ferocious kick continued well after the morning pool rush hour crowd started to leave . I did not know the person and so did not offer advice . But i really was dying to . It was apparent this swimmer had spent a lot of time at the pool and developed endurance to continue through 1000s of meters but had such poor mechanics that all these workouts were fruitless and went to polish a poor stroke technique . It reminded me of myself and my financial reticence in working with a good swim coach . That swimmer was a reminder that a few hours spent with a swim coach was worth every $ and it can help make your training more purposeful and the hours spent in the pool more productive . Just though i'd shared my thoughts |

I shall have to taser myself. 500 Friends? Cool. Did they play nice? I really need to do a random challenge update. Oh wait, if I've just told you I'm going to do it, is it still random? Then again, I haven't said *when* I'm going to do one. I just said that I *need* to do one. Ha! (Although, I already know that I'm going to put myself on the Taser list. ) |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: February Pick-Your-Goals Challenge I know now I will not make my bike goal (kind of surprised by that, but just not getting on the trainer early enough in the evening and no desire after things calm down after bedtimes) Will make the run and hopefully about 1/2 way on the strength. But reading my body and thinking through things I think running I will need to avoid the treadmill, I think I change my stride too much and am noticing some effects - that and I need to loosen up my hip flexors and strengthen my glutes - hmm strength goal and here I was doing upper body. |

That's what I've been using, and tonight, I was noticing that I heel strike on the treadmill, while I don't do this outside. *sigh* |
