You will do great. This will actually be my 2nd attempt at 70.3 with Boise 70.3 turning into something like 29.2 this year because of bad weather. I actually learned alot in that race and a lot from my training since then. One thing to do is race your race not someone else's race. Pace yourself and stick to your plan that you have done in training. Best of luck. |

Gonna check-in the bike and drive the bike course this afternoon. Can't believe how the weather changed as we got within a few miles of Lake Stevens. Hope these thunderstorms don't mess things up Sunday a.m. Best wishes everybody, have a great race!!! -Ron |

Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens : Official Thread How did everyone do? Considering my foot issues flared up at mile 2 of the run and I was about 10-11 minutes slower than I expected for the run I was pretty happy with my 5:17:58 (mid 32 for the swim, 2:50 bike and 1:48 run, t1/2 3min and 2min respectively). I couldn't really put much pressure on the front of my feet so I was running kinda funny... Nutrition was solid and I was really happy with my swim. |

Veteran 256 Everett | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens : Official Thread I'm not sure how to read the results (finding the relay teams listed together doesn't seem to be available yet....) but we all finished better than we anticipated (47:02, 3:36, 2:24) so we're happy!! It was a great day for a race - not too hot, not too cold. Water was actually much warmer than I expected - I wasn't last out of the water but nearly so (I woke up with a horrible cold this morning, throat on fire - soldiered through, hard to breath makes swimming a little harder!) Our team is already planning on Black Diamond hopefully in September!! |

Extreme Veteran 875 Issaquah | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens : Official Thread What a cr@ptacular day of racing for me. Rear shifter busted at about mile 25 leaving me with only my 28 and the FD to select gears from. That combo results in low (great for hills) and too low, crappy for most else. I wound up spending nearly an hour more on the course than I expected as I would spin out almost immediately in the big ring, so did most of my riding as coasting. Run was OK, kind of buggered up my nutrition in the middle, but once I corrected it I managed to get back a little, still about 8 minutes off of where I wanted to be. Oh well, looks like Black Diamond should hopefully be my redemption race (with new bar end shifters, the Vision Techs are a POS. 3rd time they have busted in less than a year). RAMROD is in 1.5 weeks, so hopefully the mechanical gremlins will stay away for that one. |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens : Official Thread I was 5:11:42. I guess not too bad considering it is my first real half and only 3rd tri ever. solid swim for me. 10 min better than boise at 34 and change. t1 good transition < 2 minute. Bike 2:52 and change. T2 < 2 minutes. Run 1:40. Fell apart about mile 8 and slowed down quite a bit. Started having a little bit of IT band issues going on. But overall I felt great and met my goal of at least 5:15. I guess that I thought I was a solid runner but looks like I need to train more for that now. Being that my age group started last minus relay, it was a huge psychological factor climbing the hills and still passing a lot of people on the course. I didn't know how I did on the swim until after I finished as I didn't want to know coming out of the water. I will say that i would do the race again as I enjoyed the bike and swim quite a bit. I did feel the run to very boring however. Nothing to look at at all and it seems they could make that pretty exciting or at scenic there.

RAMROD is in 1.5 weeks, so hopefully the mechanical gremlins will stay away for that one. That sucks. I had my rear shifter come apart at Pacific Crest last time I did it. Basically gave me the same thing you had, two gears to pick from but mine would stick down on the smallest rear cog. I found I could hold the shifter into other gears, but I had to grab and really hold the shifter tight. Small bumps would cause me to jostle the shifter and change gears again. |

I have on the course video too, but it kinda boring. https://vimeo.com/45839214 Will cross post in the general forum, kinda fun to watch. |

On my way to rack the bike, as I come around the sharp corner in T2 there is a sweet Felt all by its self on the rack, that's a friend's of mine and she was digging on the bike cameo. Sure hope no BT'ers where the flappy jacket or sketchy guys... |

I was just ahead of you in the race. Not sure where you caught me on the bike and passed me but I was about a minute faster out to the bike than you but you were 4 minutes faster on the bike than I was. I kept looking to see if I was in the video or not but didn't see myself. I did see the guy with the yellow flapping jacket and was thinking wtf. But hey if you haven't raced in bad weather before nor done that distance (which I hadn't either) than I guess you don't know for sure. I did see you on the run however and you were hauling . Good job.
I thought overall the bike course was a whole lot of fun even though I didn't think I even really trained for hills but I guess i did because I climbed the hills fairly well or so I thought. |
