Has anyone done the math, or know about how many people will be in each wave?  I'm struggling with my swim strategy, and how dense the crowd will be is going to help dictate where I start.  I'm a strong swimmer, and my swim times are relatively fast, but my pace for the first 200 yards is the same as my pace for the last 200 yards so I hesitate to be in front and get roughed up by all the people who go out too fast then slow down.  But I also hate to be towards the back and have to go around that many more people.  FYI, I'm shooting to be out of the water in about 30 minutes or less.

30 minutes or less? You should start in the front of your wave. Even if people do go out too hard and slow down, it's still less people for you to wade through.

Also on the swim wave listing, I assumed the little number beside the wave category in blue was the number of people in each wave. Could be wrong, but that seems logical.

Yay! We should start a club. First out of the water means I spend ALL DAY getting passed. I've been swimming for 21 years though, and I've been running and biking for less than 5 combined.

I'm hoping for sub-35, but after my swim this weekend, I think I can go closer to 31 comfortably.

Yeah, it's almost comical looking at my current goals for the race:  I want to be out of the water in about 30 minutes.  Then I'm aiming to finish the bike in 3:00 and the run in 2:30!

Add about 30 min to that bike time, and that is roughly where I am! I love to go 3:10, but I'm going to be a slave to the HRM and just go with whatever pace fits my HR.

How's the tapering coming along folks?  I went out for a nice 2000 yard swim and a 3.5 mile run today and it was fun!  Mostly because during and at the end of each of those I felt great and it was a confidence boost that I may actually be in shape for this race.  The run especially, one of the first few times that I've gone out for a run and it wasn't really work, just moving along without labored breathing or tired legs.

Bummer when I got home though, the place I'm renting my bike from down there called, and the race wheels I reserved supposedly just came back from another rental and they're "wrecked" so I'll be stuck with whatever comes on that bike.

I've had to ease off of my running with a bit of a shin splint that I did not want to get worse.  My volume has been down but still intense.  I ran my bike to the shop today with severe shifting problems expecting it to have to stay a few days.  To my surprise, they fixed me up right on the spot even replacing a cable among other things.  Very happy with that.  A few more tweaks to the bike & it will be race ready.

I've dialed it down a little this week. Just an easy 40 mile ride Saturday with some interval work mixed in and an easy 8 mile run Sunday and then it's smooth sailing next week.

This should be an interesting race as I'm undertrained compared to the last few HIM's I've done but much more rested since it's not in the middle of an IM build.

I was feeling so tired and sore yesterday, but a swim fixed that right up!

I've got a swim and a brick this weekend to test out all of my race gear - race wheels, wetsuit, tri top... the whole 9 yards. Well, I've used the wetsuit, just not in conjunction with the tri top. I'll also practice tearing down the bike and putting it back together... that will be intersting for sure. I'll be doing it when my bike shop is open in case I majorly screw up

I'm nice and calm now... hopefully panic doesn't set in next week!

Between injury and travels my bike/swim have taken a hit.  Probably means my time goal is in danger but will finish.  Good luck to all, any word on the water temps?

The Tri-Gods are against me, I swear it!  It's a little windy today, no problem.  All I want to do is go for an easy 40 mile ride and I've got a 3.5 hour window to do it once I drop off my little one at pre-school.  Oh wait, how come there are no other cars in the parking lot?  Fricken pre-school conferences are this week so the kids are off.

Sucks that I can't ride, however I do get to spend the afternoon with my best little buddy so we'll find something fun to do.

I also posted this in the Texas group but...

I don't think it's been officially announced yet but the run course will be changing to a 3 loop course. They are taking the cross country section on the grass out of the course due to the drought. Apparently too many cracks and holes that can't be filled.

This should mean a faster run on concrete as most of the bigger hills were on the cross country section. Of course, it also means the run will be more congested.

I'm not worried about congestion... I'm hoping the 3-loop course means the spectators and fellow racers will motivate me a bit more.

Also, the bigger hills getting cut out sounds glorious to this flat-lander with IT Band issues 

Did a 36/5 brick on Saturday - testing out the race wheels, and an OWS on Sunday - half in my wetsuit, half in my new tri top. I also practiced disassembling and reassembling the bike. Learned a few important things - I think I'm ready!
