This is my first race, and I was excited until I read your rant about the new racers. I have said it before...I dont want to be THAT guy...but at the same time, I can only put down the times that I have swam in practice...after all this is my very first race. Will the jitters cause me to go slower? Or will the adrenaline kick in and help my fly? I won't be anywhere near you if you swim a 1:40 pace (I registered with a total time of 8:40), but what if the person behind me is faster? I certainly dont want to someone off on my first day... Are you just blowing off steam? Or is this something that I should be concerned about? Good luck this weekend...I promise to stay out of your way!!! Thanks for any advice... Jeff, don't be worried. With time of 8:00+ you will have people with the same abilities around you. I only get annoyed when people don't let someone pass at the wall, or swim down the middle of the lane. Also, since I swam competitively, I figure if someone has a faster time than me, they KNOW how to swim. Meaning: they can easily swim 350 meters WITHOUT resting. Seeing that I put under 5:00 for my swim, I think that's a pretty easy thing to ask for.... BUT there will be those people who just randomly guessed at a good time (aka: they swim it in really 8:00, but put down 4:00 because they had no clue what they were doing). You did not do that sir. Now... have fun mister! Don't be worried. You will be fine back there. And come up and say hi to Tim and I! Please do, I would like to meet you. PS- Everyone who talks with me about doing pool swims... well, they know... I'm more annoyed by them than most. I usually try to NOT do any races with pool swims, but this year my races haven't worked out that way. So I'm not the "normal" person out there. Most don't care as much as I do. |

I had fun watching #14 on the swim not have a swim cap or goggles... and doing the side stroke and breast stroke the whole way. Poor girl. She obviously had no clue what to put in as a swim time. I got passed once. It was by the guy behind me. I think hung on his heels the entire swim. He and I went back and forth on the bike, I finally passed him on the run and never saw him again. (Till after the race and it was all good.) Overall I had a fun race, but my times were slower than my last race. My excuse is that I rode 75 miles on Saturday. So yeah. HA! |

For those of you who don't know, the bike was actually about 12.8 miles. Playtri's site says 13, but the results say 12. The math for paces appears to have used 12.8 in the results, it's just the heading that says 12. If you're logging your stuff on BT or elsewhere, use the 12.8. |

The bike was fair, but the roads were scarry bad. I almost fell in a couple of holes. Got off the bike and ran to the water park...then I had to walk. The cramps in my legs were terrible...I guess I need to brick a little more often to train for that!! I spent the rest of the race in a jog/walk state... New user 8 | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread I was # 189 based on my swim time and finished ranked 188 in the swim. Pretty accurate, but my time was much longer than I predicted - not sure why - 50yd lanes I guess. Bike was good for me, but my weakest event. I had a couple of bike wrecks since getting a new bike/pedals/shoes 2 weeks ago and I think I was a little timid. I'll do better on that next time. The run was actually pretty good for me - I was very happy with that!! I had set a goal of 1:45 and finished at 1:45.23!!! Dangit!!! But for my first true sprint - I felt great. I had previously done the "my first tri" in July. Looking forward to the Blackland tri on labor day - I'm gonna improve for sure!! |

Veteran 347 | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread I was/am disappointed with my swim time as well....but since I normally swim in a yd pool I convert 350meters to yards it is 383...then if I add the lateral distance we had to swim which must have been another 20meters...that would make it about a 410yd swim. And the timing mat at the beginning and at the end add a little time (I was out of the water before they put the extra mats down so I really took it slow on that slick deck). Still not what I wanted, but makes it more acceptable. I can deduct :45 for the extra 60 yds, :02 for the start mat, and probably :10 for the ladder and deck run before the mat. Plus add in another 3 seconds to round it up to a full minute with the extra pressure of Karen eyeballing everyone in front of her (haha). Finished 15th in the water, although I know I could have been in the top 5 if I would have swam a bit better. You should have seen my math justifying getting that 52" plasma, I actually made money on that deal in the end (in my mind)...hahahahaha |

Funny! Tim and I couldn't remember your number, so we never found you. Yeah, there were some SERIOUS pot holes on that course. I was wondering how it would get with a lot of riders on it... hard to dodge stuff on the left with a guy on the right of you. Hey, I walkes some on that run! It happens. Just think you will do better next time! Bricks... ride to run... are good training. So I looked and I ranked #33 overall for the swim. I'll take that. My swim has been a little slow lately. I seem to have lost my speed. |

I go to the one on Preston too, I just tend to go very late at night and it is usually pretty easy to get a lane. Otherwise, I just drive a bit further and use the one on Park and Ohio, I think they have 5 or 6 lanes and it feels like meters instead of yds.I am out at Little Elm with the Frisco club, come out and join us. I'm a 24 hr member also and used to swim @ the Addison location. I HATE it-bleh! It is so gross I stopped swimming there. Champion 10471 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread I have a $120 24 Hour Fitness membership- yearly. I have nationwide coverage with access to Active and Sport locations. Years ago I bought 2 years up front and after that ended I went on this deal where I only pay $120 a year. Which is why I belong to 24 Hour Fitness and Lifetime Fitness. The Lifetime Fitness pool off Trinity Mills is superior to any 24 Hour Fitness pool. It's better for lap swimming because it has a way for the waves to overflow out of the pool. None of the 24 Hour Fitness pools I have seen have this feature. So the waves just bounce back in, and it makes for a lot a waves in the pool. On a positive note, it's more like open water swimming. I also stopped going to 24 Hour Fitness because all of the pools are SO COLD! I hate cold water. I mean, really hate it. I always loved the temperature of the Lifetime Fitness pool off Trinity Mills... so I joined the club just to have access to a warm water indoor pool, anytime I wanted to swim. |
