I havent swam at Lifetime, but I bet it is a good bet.  The 24hr off Park is probably the best of the 3 I have been to.  I couldn't tell if it was salt water, wasn't paying attention.  But I do know I didn't wreak of chlorine for a day like I do at the other ones.  Stop off and give it a try before you switch.

Big_D - 2009-08-24 11:55 PM I actually had a better deal with them for the past few years, but that one ran out and this was my extension tied to it (and I do have multiple club coverage). You just have to talk them into it I guess. The second option with them is if you have a costco membership, it is $299 for 2 years. I go to the one on Preston too, I just tend to go very late at night and it is usually pretty easy to get a lane. Otherwise, I just drive a bit further and use the one on Park and Ohio, I think they have 5 or 6 lanes and it feels like meters instead of yds.I am out at Little Elm with the Frisco club, come out and join us. I am usually in the kayak or helping out on the short course we set up. Come out and join us sometime. We have a full range of athletes from beginners up to some insanely talented and fast people. One thing in common is that everyone is incredibly nice and helpful.

Sorry to butt inLaughing.....quick question? How is the pool off of Park and Ohio. I've heard that it is a salt water pool? I'm a 24 hr member also and used to swim @ the Addison location. I HATE it-bleh! It is so gross I stopped swimming there. I'm thinking about dropping my membership w/24 hr and going to Lifetime off of Trinity Mills, it's where TTT holds their group swim workout so I've been to the pool.

I'm pretty certain that if you are a member of TTT you can swim at Lifetime without a memebership, but only for the club workouts.

Like Karen mentioned the 24 hr pools are an open water wave machine,,  I recently joined the LA fitness by my workplace and the pool there is great, (ok it's not warm for karen though) but it's 4 lanes,  you can really haggle with them on the price also.

Gary is right... if you are a member of TTT, you can swim at the LTF off Trinity Mills without being a member.

It's really a great deal. $75 a YEAR for TTT... and you get to swim at a pool that would cost you $45 a month in membership dues.

The downside is that you can only swim when TTT has their workouts there. Since I'm kind of anti-morning this year, I decided paying $45 a month was worth not having to make a 6:00 AM swim workout.

Thanks for all the input! Appreciate it greatly. I swim w/ TTT Wed & Fri @ Lifetime, but every once in awhile I'll miss a workout due to me being lazy or the pool closing due to storms. This Saturday I had to harass a friend to let me tag a long as a guest so I could swim @ Tom Landry. So besides being a PIA, need a plan B to make sure I get all my swims in. Oh, and yeah I'm kinda a wuss in cold water as well.

If it is once in a while, take a look at the Plano city pools, I think they are like $3 a pop.

First off...how the hell did you get $99 for one year at 24 hour?  We pay just over $50 per month for the wife and I.  We get multiple clubs, but damn...you get 10 months free!!!

The only 24 near me that has a pool is the one on Preston, just south of RBM.  It is a two lane pool, and generally has one person swimming.  LA Fitness has 4 lanes, and they are NEVER busy.  I worked out there when I played for the Thunder (they sponsored the team), but when the league fell through, they wanted to charge us.  The monthly fee is high, but I think you can swim there for $5 a session (don't quote me).  Then there is always the Little Elm beach.  A lot of people swear by it, and Frisco Tri Club is out there on Tuesdays.  Haven;t ben yet, but it sounds fun.

I'd love to swim with you guys sometime.  I can't swim far and I don't swim fast; in fact, I have nothing to offer...except a few crude jokes, and a rubber band ball that I stole from a girl in the sixth grade...oh, and I have BEER!!!

Talk to you guys later.

<Peeks head in>  Did someone say "beer"?

Unfortunately, the Plano pools raised their prices to $6 dollars for drop in sessions. If you are a Plano resident though, you can't beat their prices at $130 a year and it gives access to all their pools and rec centers.

Oak Point and Tom Muel-something are $6.  The Plano Aquatic Center (corner of Independence & Park, behind the HS) is still at $2.

KSH - 2009-08-25 9:02 AM I have a $120 24 Hour Fitness membership- yearly. I have nationwide coverage with access to Active and Sport locations. Years ago I bought 2 years up front and after that ended I went on this deal where I only pay $120 a year. Which is why I belong to 24 Hour Fitness and Lifetime Fitness. The Lifetime Fitness pool off Trinity Mills is superior to any 24 Hour Fitness pool. It's better for lap swimming because it has a way for the waves to overflow out of the pool. None of the 24 Hour Fitness pools I have seen have this feature. So the waves just bounce back in, and it makes for a lot a waves in the pool. On a positive note, it's more like open water swimming. I also stopped going to 24 Hour Fitness because all of the pools are SO COLD! I hate cold water. I mean, really hate it. I always loved the temperature of the Lifetime Fitness pool off Trinity Mills... so I joined the club just to have access to a warm water indoor pool, anytime I wanted to swim.

Yeah, the key is paying up front instead of month to month.  Got a similar deal at LA Fitness - paid 3 yrs up front for $500 and then $150 per year after that.  There were 4 of us that signed up that night - me and my wife and a buddy and his now ex-wife..  Go at towards the end of the month, late in the evening - someone is going to be trying to make a sales target...

Yes, would love a new target for next year when I go bend work them over.  When I first signed up I got 4 of us for 3 years each at $69/year and the year to year after that period was $99/year.

Gary is right.

I just got off the phone with 24 hour, and they are no longer offering a promotion like you have.  My price is "less than $1 per day and I get to work out at over 400 clubs world wide".  I told him I liked his marketing pitch, but that all of "my firends" got such great deals.  He said that there was nothing that he could do for me right now...I would switch gyms, but my wife loves the fact that it is 90 seconds from home.

As far as the TTT fee...what does the $75 cover if you have to pay $45 per month to swim?  So I pay $75 to ride on Sunday mornings?  I think I know the route now...I'll just start down the street from them nad save the $$$...I was looking to join a club, and really liked them and FTC, but was leaning to TTT becasue of the free swim/bike group stuff...

Frisco Tri is really close to me, and a lot cheaper...is there any real difference?

I can only speak of TTT. I've only been a member since April but $75 is the annual fee and can participate in ALL TTT group work-outs. Wed, Fri: Swim, Sunday OWS & Group ride from pier 121. So no, you do not have to pay an additional $45 for the swim. The $45 is for a membership to lifetime fitness, I believe. Plus you can drop in the other group workouts hosted by the other teams in the tri community. Check out the website and Coach Kristen's email will be on just about every page. She would know alot more than I. She and all the other coaches are very friendly and helpful.
http://www.texastriplethreat.com/

But go with the team that is going to fit your needs best and you're the most comfortable with.

I really like TTT...I have been on a few of their rides - had a blast.  But I didn't want to get involved only to find out that the gym had extra fees just to work out on group days...

thanks, that makes a lot more sense.

TTT is $75 a year.

You do not pay extra to swim. I know someone else said it, but I'm just repeating it.

This is a great deal really!

Costco even has it posted online.

If I ever feel like I can wake up early morning to work out, I would be all over the TTT deal.  $75 for two workouts a week at a nice facility with a coach on deck, no brainer (besides the time of day).

Frisco Tri is really close to me, and a lot cheaper...is there any real difference?

your thoughts?

Oh, and Andy...YES...plenty of BEER!!!

next time I go into costco,, I'll check to see if they are still selling the 2yr for 299 package....

For pool swims, TTT has it hands down.  Go to a couple workouts for both teams and then join the one you like the most or join both, they are both very reasonably priced.  I am a member of Frisco and really enjoy everything from the workouts, to the socials, to the camaraderie, to having a group of people to hang out with after the race.  I think you will get that with either of the clubs.
