I'm in.

I hope the pool is going to be open for the race. Gary said they are doing repairs on the pool or something during that time.

I won't be happy if this ends up being a duathlon.

I was wondering do you all know if the pool will be set up as 25 meter or 50 meter lanes? This is my first tri with a pool swim and I have never trained with 50 meter lanes. I just did the disco tri and the swim was a disaster so really nervous about this one. I want to make sure I am prepared.

I'm in. I've already talked with Staci at Playtri and she says they do the race every year during the pools closure for repairs. She also said the pool will be ready and it will be a tri.

It has been 50 meter lanes in the past and will most likely be this year too. Not sure where you are located, but Oak Point Center in Plano has their pool setup with 50 meter lanes in the mornings if you want to try it out first.

Thanks! I am very close to Oak Point but was unaware they opened the pool to 50 meter lanes in the morning. I have been there a few times but always in the afternoon. I will definitely try to get a few workouts in there before the race.

I'm in!

I swim there in the mornings with NTex Masters and was told that the LISD is closing the pool on August 7 to replace pool drains so they are in compliance with new state laws.  The pool will be completely emptied and they will also be doing some other maintenance work at the same time. It's a big fund raiser for The Colony fire department so I would think they will do everything they can to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

That's why I"m waiting a couple of days,, they usually don't drain the pool.   I'm sure you got the same email that I did saying the pool will be closed (empty) from the 7th till 21st.

Well the truth of the matter is this... once you sign up there are no refunds. So as a fund raiser... they get their money if we swim or not. They just change it to a du if we can't swim.

To be more specific, they only do the 50 meter mornings during the summer time. I think just while school is out. And they switch it back to 25 yard daily. Not sure what time the switch is made though.

doubt it,, the pool not scheduled to close until aug 7th.. so it won't be until after then that they will know for sure if it closed on time, and the work is on schedule..

Play tri is very well organized, last year there was some construction that started just a week or so before the race and they handled that intersection very well...  So I'm sure they will be on top of things once they know

Straight from Staci's mouth:

We are aware of the pool maintenance and have been told by pool management that the pool will be ready to go by Friday august 14th!

Thanks Aaron!  We all appreciate the update!

Does anyone know how this pool swim will start?  Time trial style with 10 seconds apart, fastest to slowest?

Yes. Time trial start. Somewhere between 3 and 10 seconds apart most likely. And fastest to slowest based on what time you estimate when you register.

Best to estimate correctly so you are swimming with others your speed as it cuts down on passing. Some people lie and passing still happens a bit. Some people lie badly and it's obvious when they are breast stroking but started 30th. Ha.

So...I dont want to be "that guy" who doesn't guess his time correctly.  I have never swam in a 50m pool.  Only 25m at the gym.  My 350m time ranges from about 8-10 minutes.  Where should I start?
