Did a 1:33 HM and had a good 1500 m swim last month (17:30 without taper). I did a big bike focus this week at just shy of 9hrs). I will do a week of higher intensity and then back to volume.

BTW, Canada survived the "Mass Swim Start Massacre of 2013."

I think I read in water?   Should be interesting, anyone know how big the park is, or the start area?  In my mind it's pretty small

Yea rainbow is pretty small so an in water would make sense. Not sure of exact measurements but they'll have to get creative to make up t1

Less than 100 training days until the race! I've only done one 4200 yard swim 42x100 with 10 second rest). I've done 4 100+ mile rides. Running is intentionally light to hopefully prevent injury.

Question on the bike course. For those who know this course. Do you think it compares to the Coeur d'Alene ride at all? I have done the old and new CDA rides, but just want to see if the hills are close to the same, or tougher. Are they strait up or do they have curves in them at all? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Bump

Finally feel like I have entered the real training phase. All of my potential work conflicts have cleared. Just got back from a week vacation. Injury free, for the most part, a few little niggles here and there. Ready to go! 3 months!

Might just jump in on this. Live in San Francisco so it would be a great opportunity "just up the road".

I have a couple of questions:
- How hot will it be?
- What are the chances of a wetsuit-illegal race?

Thanks a million!

Ummm it sold out in October if you haven't signed up yet. The water temperature is likely to be 65-70 so almost no chance of it being wetsuit illegal.
As far as air temperature it could be 85 or it could be 45! Its the mountains and very unpredictable. Likely to be low 70's

Lots of info being put up on the IM Canada website, including tentative schedule and transport to Alta Lake Saturday for the bike drop off.

Quiet group......

Have a 5 hour ride planned Sat with a Whistler-ish course profile.   2.5 miles swim Sunday, with a 1:45 run.  Training days are getting longer....

Bought my wife one of the VIP passes since she'll be there alone.  Hopefully, it will be worth it for her, and I wanted to make the day as easy for her as I could.  She's spectated a lot of races, including IMAZ, and she is as tired as I am racing sometimes .  It's a long day for everyone

Course recon notes show that the turnaround in Pemberton to T2 is going to put the hurt on us as the wind comes up.  Also lots of reports of bear sightings!

This is my first long course race with power, should be interesting.

Every weekend seeing more and more tri bikes on the roads getting me very excited!! Yep that head wind and those hills are a recipe for very tired legs coming off the bike.

what's the Beta on the headwind?

My friend rode the Callagahan yesterday and saw three bears.

Going to ride the course in two weeks, either the 24th or 25th. How do we know where the turn around is? It's short of Pemberton, isn't it? My long ride so far is 41/2 hours, about 78 miles with hills. So, this will push me, but I'll be trying to do the whole thing.

Where are you hearing about headwind? I'm sure it depends on the month, heat and time of day. I rode the Penticton course in June two years ago and it was horrible, but in the August Ironman 2011, there was almost no wind.

Lots of folks posting the ride on the FB group.  From them, the turnaround is at the end of Pemberton Meadows road where it turns to gravel.  THis is well beyond Pemberton.

Wind is supposed to be prevailing from the south from whistler to pemberton, and apparently comes up about 11...  just in time for the return.   Word is that people that overcook Callaghan will be in trouble, people that overcook the out and back will be in trouble, and people that overcook the climb back to Green Lake will be in trouble......

Apparently there is a short, sharp climb into Pemberton from whistler that is gonna sting

I see now--I was under the impression Pemberton was farther away. So it looks to me like we go almost as far past Pemberton, as from Whistler to Pemberton. I'm riding it (the 24th I think) so I will report back with as detailed of info as I can. I'll try to ride at racetime (I rode Ironman Canada at just about 6 hours. I'm not there yet, so maybe I'll leave a little early, but I'll try to bring back specific times/miles of hills and wind.

Do you know anything about a map my ride (or better specific turnaround mapping) than what the Ironman Canada site provides? I don't want to ride off course.

I'm just told the turnaround is where the pavement ends.  Not sure you can get lost on course, tho you may go too far.  If you are on FB, check out the IM Canada page, there's lots of people riding the course and can answer specific direction questions

Definately check out the facebook page. Mark Webb (TN Multisports) provided a ton of recon.  They are the 'official' coaches for the race.  One of several his comments were that this course is harder than Penticton.   Also, a lot more elevation gain than what is displayed on the website.

I am heading up July 13 to ride the course.

Happy Hill Repeats!

I'll let you know when I ride it. I've done a 101 and 107 in the last two weeks with tons of hills--way harder than Penticton, I'm going up next Friday instead of tomorrow as it's been raining and looks like it will until Friday. I'll probably ride it Saturday.

Chris, one day at a time. Train hard and then take it one thing at a time. Have you done an IM distance before?

I need some help. I'm not on Facebook, but my wife is. I went on for the first time--found nothing relevant. How do I find bike course info on Facebook?

How'd the ride on the course route go gplitt (or anyone else who's done the course)? I'm really curious about what gearing set-up you think will be sufficient..... I'm running 52/36 up-front and 11-32 in the rear, and am wondering if I should be going to a compact 50/34 in the front for the IMC route?
