Of course you can join.  Welcome to your first challenge.

Well since I have not been in the pool at all this month I am uping up the challenge (even though it is casual!)

Well, I can bring out the cattle prod for you, if that would help. (After all, I'm always helpful...)

Not necessary now - It is still July and I have 4 days left to get some pool time in so I don't zero it for the month.  Might need the prod next month.

TinkerBeth is not signed up yet (not that I saw anyways) so you should jolt her just to get her to the starting line!

BTW - Hello Dee!

Soooo, the threat of the cattle prod comes out!

Actually I wasn't going to sign up but..............................

  1. I'm askeered of the cattle prod
  2. I'm really not sure what I would do without a challenge
  3. I need some motivation to keep me training during August - which is going to be NUTS!

I'm in - since it's casual and all that - is it ok if I provide my goals when I get back from vacation?  (august 4)

ps

I'm mostly askeered of the cattle prod - check out my sig line

I don't blame you for being afraid of the caddle prod.  Since it is only a CASUAL challenge I doubt Dee will mind if you give you goals on Aug 4th.  But then again I guess you never know.

I got NYC Marathon in November, and IMLP next July. I've been thinking that I really should lose those "last 10 pesky lbs." Maybe this challenge will do it for me.

So, for August, let's aim to lose 5 lbs - which will get me to 170.

And running - let's go with 150 mi. no...let's be aggressive...160.

oh, what the heck...let's just be consistent here - 170 is the number - for weight and for running miles. (Holy schnikies - that's totally aggressive - I've never run that far in a month! But, if i do that, I'm sure the weight will follow.) And you know what...let's take it step further - 170 miles for cycling too.

Here's some tentative goals (will readjust the day before the challenge starts):

Swim 12,800 yds
Bike 510 min (~156 miles)
Run 770 min (~78 miles)

Revising goals to factor in a week of vacation:

Swim 20,000 yds
Bike 465 min
Run 635 min

Will update the spreadsheet...

If you scroll to the bottom of the spreadsheet there is a "edit" link.  If you click on it, you should be allowed to enter your data.  If not post your goals and state that you need help entering them and I will enter them for you.

The challenge hasn't even started and I'm already bummed. I just contracted the worst case of poison ivy I've ever had. My legs hurt like a m-f, burn, itch, and are covered in HUGE fluid-filled blisters. I'm on prednisone which is screwing with my head, along with Zyrtec, tylenol, and buckets of cortisone cream and neosporin w/pain reliever. To top it all off, it is still spreading, to my arms and now my face.

I can't tell you how depressed this has me. I just got other bad-ish medical news which had me totally bummed ("the tests all came back normal, we have no freakin' clue what is wrong with you so, um, you know, just sit tight and let's hope it goes away. Even though it has already been four months and we all agree that is ridiculously long."). Now I can't even run to make myself feel better. Just the incredibly minimal walking I do around my office gives me a pit-of-the-stomach feeling, I can't even imagine trying to run. I'm supposed to start doing pushups in earnest tomorrow, but my knees are covered in sores and my body hurts to much too try for real pushups.

I'm sorry for the whine. I was so, so excited about this challenge, and now I feel like this is yet another block in my path. I run my first open 5K next week and I'm completely unprepared. Guess I just needed to unload. *sigh*

But, on the upside, if the prednisone does start working, just think of how great I'll look after doing those pushups on steroids!

Ouch! I hope you feel better. I'm sure poison ivy doesn't last the whole month. Push-ups on steroids would definitely have some good results though!

I am offically in for the challenge. I put down my goals as-
Swimming: 24 hours
Biking: 13 hours
Running: 13 hours

If you want to get rid of this and soon...try my solution...

CREST TOOTHPASTE! yes, that is right!

I was in the Ozarks camping years ago and had it from head to toe...was MISERABLE when a local told me to try this. I did and boy does it sting like SH_T but it works and really quickly!!!! Dries it up really fast! hope it works for you like it did for me! GOOD LUCK...nothing worse then poison oak - but to be covered head to toe is THE WORST!!!! TRULY FEEL FOR YOU!  GOOD LUCK!! I also just read somewhere to get a sock and put some uncooked oats, honey and some milk in it then place in a tub of warm water.....then soak in the tub! nothing like making a big bowl of breakfast to soak in!!!!!
