Now that sounds like fun.  Jump off a perfectly good boat to drown swimming...hmmm.  Only Comet would come up with that one.
i didnt come up with it. i just agreed to do it along with another 150 or so crazies. im hoping there is a good current so i can just float to shore.

Well after saying I was joining the club again I guess I sorta failed at actually doing so.  I don't like these big long threads....ya miss a week and it's way too hard to catch up!  And with the crazy last couple of months I've had, I've had many weeks that i've been gone completely.

So I'll just keep making random stop ins I guess.  I do have exciting news.  Somehow...for reasons I can't quite figure out....I'm a onesie again!  198.8.  I have been paying attention to what I eat (mostly...but I've been travelling a lot and it was my bday last weekend so it hasn't been great) and I haven't been working out at all.  I have been staying active though....I've been doing quite a bit of bike commuting around town which I haven't been logging but probably should since my log looks so empty.  I've also done a lot of test riding in hopes of buying a road bike (not gonna happen yet unfortunately but we're getting there).  Anyway I hadn't weighed myself in forever but figured I would give it a go just to see how bad it was.  Somehow I've lost 5 pounds since the last time I checked!  Woohoo! I'm thinking part of it is that my body was just exhausted and needed some downtime to rest and regroup without entirely stopping all activity.  In a couple of weeks i'm headed out to the woods of north carolina for a two month long outward bound class...so no training per se, but lots of hiking, climbing, rafting, etc.

Just droppin by to share the news....hope you all are doin well.  Sorry I haven't been around more....once I'm back from outward bound I'll try to become a regular again...cus for some strange reason I miss ya'll!

i feel the same way about these super long threads, miss a day or two and you are completely lost. but dont worry team skinny will always welcome you back. look they took me back, and they dont even like me

Glad to hear you are doing good Lil T.  Nice of you to drop by as most of us are still here.  Hiking and rafting sounds like a pretty good workout in itself.  5 pounds....Woo Hoo!!!  Keep it up and please do drop by anytime.

Nada on that -

My first Oly was tomorrow, but has been downgraded to a duathlon thanks to the be-hatch Hurricane Hanna. (Unsafe swimming conditions in the river post-storm...and I'm not one to want to swim through sewage and stuff.)

I thought Comet's was tomorrow too?

I don't even like to swim in a "clean" pool...

Yesterday I went through the stages of grief for losing my A-race...

Denial (no way is this happening)
Anger (can't use those words in family forums)
Bargaining (well, maybe I can find another race)
Depression (what a waste of a season...why did I even bother)

Today I finally made it to acceptance.

That's really bummer about your big race, enders.  Was that going to be the first time you did that distance race?

Yep - and coming from being a non-swimmer, it was quite an accomplishment for me. Ah well, there is next year!

(The only Oly's left around here this fall are too far or too challenging...I don't need a crazy swim for my first oly.)

You rock! I still have about 15 pounds to lose until I'm a onesie again. I say again, but it's been 18 years since I've been a onesie

Well, I did my 5K yesterday. I got up and wasn't sure if my knee was going to complain or not. It wasn't too bad though. Got picked up by a couple of friends and we made our way to the race. They had decided to walk the whole thing but I was determined to run at least a part of it. After the first mile, my knee started hurting and I was sure that was the end of my race. But I pulled to the side, stretched a bit and it was fine. There was one woman I was pacing the last half of the race. She was a very fast walker and I couldn't keep up when I was just walking. So, she made me run more than I would have on my own cause I couldn't let her stay ahead of me

My goal was to finish in less than 50 minutes. I finished in 49 and some change...or so I thought. I totally forgot that I started a few minutes after the first wave to go out. I finished in 46:41, pacing an average of 15:02 minute miles. I was completely floored when I saw that. The fastest I've ever paced in training or any other race was around 17 minute miles.

But the best part was the woman I was pacing during the race came up to me and told me that I inspired her to keep going because she was always wanting to catch me. I told her about my triathlon training and she congratulated me. Of course, being the tri ambassador that I am, I told her that she should look into it. And she said, she couldn't possibly do that. I told her that if I could, anyone could.

Thanks to everyone here for encouraging me to get out there and just do it. The friends that I guilted into going with me thanked me for making them do it, too

well i didnt drown(sorry sailing, hope you didnt lose to much $), i finished and i wasnt last. in fact i was 2nd in my age group, didnt race as a clyde either. i dont know how manyin my AG but i think it was only 5 or so. i was 81 overall outta 100 give or take. third to the last outta the water and kicked some butt on thebike. passed something like 12 15 people. the run was horrible right knee started to hurt after only 100 yards then both were hurting at 1.5 miles. imade it though and met all my goals andeven got some hardware. whoot whoot. so i am purdy happy with the result.

next year i do much better. btw jumping off the sternwheeler was a blast!
