gvey - 2009-04-24 1:01 AM I know Baowolf asked about this already, but I'm not sure if he got an answer. Is the parking area shown on the Boise website open to spectators/family and does it fill up? I was planning on my wife driving me to the swim start. It looks like about a 3/4 mile walk from the parking lot to T1, OK, no big deal, right? The bike dropoff is Friday and we drop of our run bags on the way to the reservoir. I guess my question is, can you get by without taking the bus?

I also would like to know about this?!  I don't really want to take the bus!!!

I'm just curious as to why you don't want to take the bus?  I think somewhere along this thread someone posted that it's a two lane road and gets pretty congested?

Anyway, I got two tickets for the shuttle anyway, I suppose I can hedge my bets and change my mind as I'll have a car.

It's just always nice to be a in spacious car, good tunes, laughter amongst family friends, and go on your own schedule... It is not a huge deal if I have to take the bus... Just not a fan.

They have the same type set up down at Pacific Crest in Sunriver, and I enjoyed the car ride much more than the bus.  Just me I guess.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha, Just saw this in an email that if you're doing Boise 70.3 this year you'll get special entre to register for 2010 Ironman Coeur d'Alene immediately following the awards ceremony June 13...........

I shouldn't scoff, but it's just that I was doing my long ride today (a tad over 50) and the thought hit me, OMG, I really don't think I could envision doing another 50, i.e. as in IRONMAN....

But for those of you thinking about it......

Hey welcome aboard.  I'm trying desperately not to freak out for my first HIM.....is this your first HIM and you have a nice advantage being in the downtown area so you have me puzzled by your "all sorts of confused" comment :-)

So what's your story?  Did you register at the last minute or just now find us ?

Haha.  I said i was all sorts of confused because i'm the type of guy who builds Legos, but doesn't read the instructions (or look at the box for that matter) and ends up with something entirely different.
I live in Boise, but unfortunately, this 70.3 starts off with a 2pm start followed by a confusing swim start that somehow I have to pay to make my way to.  Maybe I should just read the directions, but all I really wanted to do was leave my room with my stuff, bike to the swim, set up transition and be done with it.  Now I have to take a shuttle that I have to pay for to get there.

Anyway, this isn't my first 70.3.  I did IM Korea and Jerseyman last year and recently Wildflower Long Course.  I didn't have any times that'll knock your socks off, but i'm taking all this as a training step to other things.  I'm doing the Boise Famous Potatoes Marathon this weekend just for sh!ts and giggles.  By no means am I some sort of fast athlete, just a crazy guy who likes challenges.  Somebody persuade me to do the Vikingman before and Spudman after Boise.  If you have anything else in between like a marathon, that sounds cool too.

Another reason why I'm trying to do so much in such little time is because I won't be here in Boise too long and my enlistment in the military is done and its home sweet home, but I wanted to say I did these things and get better for my next set of challenges on the East Coast.

I look forward to seeing you guys at 70.3.  Maybe theres some sort of BT sticker to identify those members from this forum.  That would be cool.  I'm looking for some tri specific gear too so i can stop wearing bib shorts in the water and looking like a total tri noob (plus bib chamois dont float too well).

Since it is a 2PM race start, have you considered getting up early, " leave my room with my stuff, bike to the swim, set up transition and be done with it." I think you'd have enough time.

There is that swim/bike/run thing people do after they set up their transition. I guess you could skip that. Your day would come out like your LEGO's, looking completely different than the way the rest of us picture our day.

hmm .. thanks for pointing out the obvious.  i guess i'm not as a serious triathlete as yourself since i forgot that it involved a "swim/bike/run thing people do".
oh yeah, i guess i can't just bike to the swim even though I live here so it seems like i'm still going to have to pay for a shuttle aside from the registration cost, but I take it you have an answer for that too.
 sweet. thanks mom.

WHOO HOO Athlete guide is up!  But BOO HOO it says NO swimming at Lucky Peak before the race. WTF? I was hoping to get the cold water feel ahead of time.

AND the rumored monkeying with swim waves was just that, rumors.  Same swim waves as last year.

EEEEK, this is all too real now!

There is a great pond called the clock tower pond that is down river we swim in. It's a bit warmer but the same river water. You could also swim in the pond below the dam, which I think would be great because it is even colder than the water we'll be swimming in for the race. Might make the resevior water feel warm! It's a bit small, you can stand up in most of it but it is deep enough for swimming and you could do laps.

Hey, thanks for the tip.  Do you happen to have any idea why no swimming there before the race?

EEEEK, this is all too real now!

I'm getting that feeling too. With my last early season race (an Oly) on Sunday, there is nothing but fear of the Boise run on the other side.  Every time I have increase my run distance or intensity on the run I end up cramping up an hour later. The one good thing is I've already done 2 sprint races and they have gone great. It's time to shift gears in my training for the final 2 weeks, I just hope the old body responds.

I guess there is some advantage to being 56. I am a strong swimmer so there won't be many people out of the water before me. Of course that means only that many more people will pass me during the race.

I read in the guide that we have to wear a wristband. Not thrilled about this. Last race I had one on snug not tight so it wouldn't flap around and during the race my arm swelled ( a normal occurance). By the end of the race it was like a tourniquet

Heh, heh, they assume you young bucks are gonna be faster than us old farts.  I for one am SO VERY thankful to have the added cushion.  I was freaking when I heard rumors over at slowtwitch that they were monkeying with swim waves / not gonna do waves.

I see the absolute bike cut off is 8:00 p.m. I have a wee bit of anxiety over the winds.  I've done very minimal wind training, and I'm slow to begin with so that's why I'm glad my swim wave is going off right after the pros......

Heh, heh, we shoulda all had ball caps or T-shirts made up with our BT names so we could find each other :-)  If you see a 5'4 auburn haired girl with a 6'5 sherpa, that would be me and my husband.  ( I figure there won't be too many of those combos :-)

You will need it to get into and out of transition, etc. It is used for other identification purposes as well.

I'm off at 2:40. That will be a long time to wait while watching everyone else is leaving.

I just checked and sundown is 9:27. Thankfully this is one on the longest days of the year.
