Has the full swim start always been at 7:00am?  I thought last year it was 6:30?  Yesterday I rode to the full TA and back..  I thought I was in good shape but those hills about killed me....  Sure hope I can make it to the tunnel before the cutoff...

devouahy - 2009-09-18 7:42 AM FYI, come out and pass on the word. At the ITU World last week in Australia, the Silverman Triathlon was awarded the 2011 World Championships. This will be the first time in history that the US has ever hosted the ITU World Championship for the Long Distance Triathlon.

Stay posted on additional detail over the next year or so. We will have the normal Silverman, and a seperate ITU race.

Cheers!

Cool!

Is ITU long course draft legal?

Can some of you post where you are staying?  I am thinking of doing the Silverman in 2010 and wanted to start looking for a good place to stay that is wallet friendly so we could also spend a few days in Vegas. If it is not too far I may be interested in just driving up race morning if not to far.

Good luck to all of you.  I can not wait to read your reports.!!!

lots of good places to stay but you will need to drive to the race start or take a shuttle. last year they left from Sunset Station which isn't a bad place, but not on the strip or even near the strip. also in Henderson and a little nicer is Green Valley Ranch. the strip properties shouldn't be too expensive at that time of year but you will need to rent a car to get to the race site.

I have stayed at Sunset Station and Fiesta Henderson. Both are not bad at all... Sunset is nicer casino wise but the rooms are about the same.

This year I booked the Wingate by Wyndam that is 3 1/2 miles from the finish for $66 a night.

Is it very far of a Drive from the strip?  I am trying to make a pakaged deal with my wife.  If she gets what she wants then I will get plenty of time for training.

I would rather burn vacation after the race then the days leading up to the race.  I am coming from the central time zone and I was wondering if arriving the day before is a killer?  I would hate to burn vacation if I do not have to and save it for after the race.

Anyway, I need to start climbing some hills I guess if this is going to be my race next year

not too far from the strip and it's mostly freeway to the race site...maybe 20-30 minutes to the start from the south end of the strip.

Bump...

Good luck everyone!  Let's hope the weather is the same as it has been the last 3-4 days.  PERFECT...  Warm, sunny, and no wind.

Accuweather has it 77 degrees, mostly sunny, and 4mph winds.  Easier swim start this year?

*keeping fingers crossed*.

I went for a test ride today and it felt more windy than I expected.  A couple of times the wind caught me by surprise and had to get off the aero bars quickly. The water is colder than I expected so it looks like I am using my wetsuit tomorrow for a test swim

I am staying at the Hampton inn for $79 a night with a free breakfast every morning. And it is about 5 minutes from the run course.  Theplace its very nice.

As far as showing up the day of the race, it might be doable but there is a mandatory meeting on saturday at 9  and you have to turn in your bike by 5 the day before.

I wish I was ready to attempt the Full IM

First to post race rest. Completed course in 11hrs 36. It was a very hard day. it lives up to being the toughest one out there. the only flat bit seams to be the swim!!!! very happy to have done it. Might be time to hang up my IM shoes and do some halfs!

i have to agree, It is a tough one.  I knew it was going to be hilly but I was not expecting the run course to be so tough....It hurt.

Finish the Half in 7:15,  45 minutes off my goal time but had a great time

I stayed one night at Sunset Station and checked out the next day....I found it depressing, dirty and I couldnt escape
the smoke....something I just wasnt expecting as I hadnt been to Vegas before.
Went straight to Green Valley Ranch which was just fantastic and has the only hotel lobby which didnt make me want to choke.  I cannot recommend it enough, although maybe not as friendly on the wallet as other places.  Just dont eat at the ELEPHANT and something or other restaurant across the road as I got food poisoning there 3 days before the event and had the most miserable race of my life!
The race is terrific - so much so that I"m coming back to do it properly this time.  Good luck!!
