I just got a great new year's present...

I just visited my favorite podiatrist who is now in my insurance network (thanks to my new health insurance) and he evaluated my achilles tendinitis.  After three months++ off, I can walk now without ANY pain.  Problem is when I run it feels like my heel is "pulling" too much and starts to hurt.  After evaluating my walk and run gait, he said all I really need are some heel lifts and massages every week for the next 4 weeks. (Along with stretching 8 times a day, which I wasn't doing)

I am cleared to run on flat, hard packed dirt surfaces and he gave me some heel lifts.  Of course, cleared to run means every other day starting at 1/2 mile.  I will take it!

Happy New Years (early) all!!  Good to see most are still keeping up with the week long give up.  I haven't had a soda since we first started.

Andi, great news!  Just make sure you slowly work back into it.

I will be back on the workout wagon starting Monday (day I go back to work.  I plan to utilize the training and nutrition logs.  Will check on everyone's logs throughout the week.  Until then, happy new year!

I just put a table in my logs with names and BT ids with a hyperlink. If you want to add it to your page I think you can just copy and paste it.

Check it out and let me know if I missed anyone and/or links are bad.

This is great, thanks Ken!  I have added it to my log and spruced things up a bit.

Hello All!!!  Just wanted to pop in not that my holidays are over and catch up.  I am officially back to work so I will be able to get on here more and update things and put foot coverings in backsides.  Or whisper sweet nothings in your ears and motivate you..... okay, maybe not.

How is everyone doing?  I plan on looking through everyone's logs today and scorning or patting on the back.  I officially head to the pool at lunch then run after work.  I will update my nutrition log also.  Going to measure myself up tonight with the help of wifey so I have a good baseline to begin with.

UPDATE YOUR LOGS AND THIS THREAD ON HOW YOU ARE DOING!

BTW, I hate the Patriots, but then again, I hate the NFL.  GO HUSKERS!!

Hi Scott,

My name is Scott also, I'm a Nebraska native, and I spent some time in the Navy as well.  I'm really pumped about getting into triathlons as I have always thought they would be something I would enjoy.  As a kid I did a lot of swimming and biking, and I have always wanted to be a good runner.

I have started training almost 2 months ago now, and have seen quite a bit of improvements, especially in running.  Have lost over 20lbs in that time, and I'm really enjoying that.  I want to get back into the shape I was in (if not better) when I was in the military.

I have some 5k's and sprint Tri's planned for this year already.

Please let me know if you could squeeze one more in to your mentor group....

Thanks

Just got back from my vacation in Anchorage, AK.  Visited cousins for his Bar Mitzvah, and then went on a SKI TRIP, woot.  Yesterday, after not running or excersing(only XC skiing or downhill) I ran a 8k in 34:30.   I think that's ok for such a long break.  The later in the day I had my coaching session for swimming.  I got really tired on the just kicking for about 300yds of the practice.  I'm getting back into shape.  Also, got my ACT back and got a 31.  Hopefully I can a get a 33 to try my sisters when I actually study for it in MAY.  Also, got a forerunner 301 for Chanukah.  (Goes with edge 301).

Scott,

I would love to have another Husker in here but am afraid I have already exceeded the limit.  If I keep adding I am sure someone will say something, not to mention the fact that the more people there are the less time that can be devoted to each, thereby robbing you of the motivation that may help.  I would suggest looking for a group that has openings still so the proper time can be devoted to you and you can assist others with motivation.  feel free to stop in and let us know how you are doing or the group you hook up with.  Also, if you need an answer you can't seem to get, feel free to drop in and ask.

 Scott

PS  Thanks for your service to our country.

Cal,

Welcome back.  Wish I could stop working out for a short time and still run those times.  Heck, I wish I could run those times while in shape.  I plan to take the wife on a cruise to AK some day.  Only state or US Territory I have not been to.  I want to go to Denali!!

I'll give you some advice about Alaska (My vacation was my 10th time there).  Denali is a very nice place.  But I would advise against a cruise.  Check out the Alaska Marine ferry system.  Costs less and your able to stay in the small towns in the South east for as long as you want rather than just 3-5 hours as most cruises.  On our trip, we took the ferry and the stayed in a B&B for the night.  two nights in Kethican, 1 night in Sitka, 1 night in Skagway, 1 night in Juneau.  It worth checking out.  THis way we had enough time to take the tram in kethican, and the White pass train in Skagway.  BTW we took a 5 seater plane from Sitka to Juneau.  That was awesome.  For your first time I would go in the summer.  Also be where of the whether.  In juneau there is Glacier that cuts right htrough a temperate rain forest.  WE had to hold about 5 layers each.

Never thought of going there to vacation, I like the cruise idea so I am able to get up when I want, drink what I want, eat what I want, and do what I want.  Kind of limited on that in the Navy you know?

Just a quick update for all the newbies on BT. When you are doing Blogs in peoples logs and you reply, make sure you hit the "Blog" button. If you click the "Reply", it will post a reply into you own logs, and not the other person who posted. I've noticed a few people responding to others within their own logs and though I would help you all, since I went through the same thing when I first joined BT 2 years ago.

Enjoy, and keep up the good work all. Some of you need to start training! Wink

Actually there was three people, thus why I posted here.

Well, the day is almost over, and hoping to see more training posted this evening from everyone here? Get out there, and play time teamates!
