My run SUCKED big time. I was 35 minutes slower than my standalone HM PB. While I didn't expect to match that time, I did think I could still run it under 2 hours. Heat, hills, humidity and major cramping made for a long run for me.

All was going really well for me until the run too.  5km in to the run at a steady pace then the ol' legs shut down.  But run/walked the rest of the way, got it done, and am one happy man about it.  Well organized event for the first time I thought, especially with that many people.

I guess we all have similiar experiences with the run portion!  I too found the run to be difficult.  I managed the first 5k in 22 minutes which was a pace I was hoping to hold the entire time.  No dice!  I faultered big time and had to mentally push myself to keep running.  I wanted so bad to just sit down.  I thought at first it was because I pushed too hard on the bike, but now I'm glad I did because I still may have blown up on the run regardless.

The race itself was okay.  The course was really good I thought, except for a couple things; The aid station on the descent was annoying, and the lack of buoys in the water were my only two course complaints.  There were a lot of aid stations on the run which was awesome.

I thought after the race if I really could ever do a full Ironman after and I just don't know.  For sure most people must walk the marathon portion just based off what I saw on the run leg at this race.  The pain of an Ironman must be even worse and I don't know if I could sign up for that!  Maybe though...

If this race goes ahead next year I likely won't do it.  Not that it's a bad race, but I'm still new to the sport and I want to try different races.  If I do a HIM again it'll be an Outback Event and not on the August long-weekend.

roll downs went pretty far down...  I didn't even go to the thing... guys who finished behind me took the spots.  I bet no one took the ITU long distance spots for 2010 for my age group!  I guess if I'm flush next year I'll talk to Tri Can.

Maybe I missed a table or something, but the website says that their should be a bunch of "sponsor goodies" in the registration bags. I didn't get a single thing. Oh wait, that's not true... I got dinged another $15 on top of the race fee for provincial association insurance.

ha. 2x. ha ha. yeah, as far as cheap give aways go this race takes the cake. I got a power bar. Not even a water bottle or a gu or an anergy drink. Not even a t-shirt, apparently you have to finish first.

Wow! You got a powerbar?! Better than mine. Nothin' Zilch. The best race swag I got last year was Silverman Half and the best this year so far was our local Olympic (it beat IM CDA by miles). However, I got to use my Saskatchewan Triathlon Club card, so I didn't have to pay extra for insurance. That was kinda nice. Probably because Alberta and Sask compete so much in each other's races. Either that or it's the same insurance company.

Well I got a power bar from the power bar guy right at the start of the little maze of advertising I was subjected to in order to get my timing chip.

I thought this was a good race. A little pricey but good. Great job on all the road clousures and intersections. Not once was I asked to slow down for a major intersection.

Who's in for Aug 1 2010?

I crossed the finish line as said I'll never f'n do this again, but now that it is a couple of days later I find that I can't wait for another one. I'm sure I'll be there. This is just my first season of tri's and this was my second race, so I am going to try to get a little more experience before next year. A couple of Olympics first maybe. I can complain all I want about the $$$ value, but I am hooked.

There is still no registration available on the web site. Is there a possibilty that the race might not be coming back?

Just wondering if anyone that is registered for 2010 got a surprise visa charge of $59.95US on Thursday? I was just going over my visa usage for the week and found this charge. I haven't ever used them for anything other than this race so I was just wondering if I am the only one? I will contact them on Monday to find out what is going on, but thought I'd throw it out there in case any one else has the same thing happen.
