Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC One of the nicest TTT pic I found is this one with Rabobank, riding Giant Trinity Advanced SL TTbikes. They looked so good in the pic, you wouldn’t have guessed team leader Menchov fell early and his team could manage no better than 11th position, 2'20" back. |

Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC bryank14 - 2009-07-07 5:55 PM 1. My stage 4 in the books. Glorious ride in the Gatineau Hills (our local hilly ride. It's a national park). It has to be the spirit of Hincapie that was pushing me, because I pounded those hills. Or maybe because I really paced my climbs well (sticking to around 310W while climbing). 2. SOOOO happy we can talk about yesterday. If any of you watched, our Columbia boys gave a frickin' lesson of race tactics that will be remembered a long time. Stuff like this DOES NOT happen in stage 3!!! Still shakin' my head that some of the top guys slept on it and got left out. Trust me, this will mean we will see some crazy stuff in the mountains. 3. Cav for the green jersey? Somehow, I am sure he is thinking about it. One thing you have to remember, he is improving in the hills. He trained all winter and really showed great form in the Spring Classics. But the TdF is about A LOT of hills. I am still thinking he is looking for stage wins, and getting to Paris. But in a few years from now, he will be dominant for the green jersey. 1. 310W - I can do half that, LOL 2. You think Contador made a mistake not latching on? You think his leadership will be seriously questioned now? 3. Cav in green jersey - I HOPE SO. GO COLUMBIA-HTC GO!!! Edited by patricia7 2009-07-08 12:45 PM |

Stage 4 - Montpellier to Montpellier, Team Time Trial, 39 km, July 7th Astana won the 39km lap of Montpellier but ended two tenths of a second shy of wiping out Fabian Cancellara's lead and putting Armstrong top of the podium. Columbia-HTC's Mark Cavendish keeps the green jersey and team-mate Tony Martin retains his white jersey as best young rider. The Columbia Team, riding Scott Plasma 3 TTbikes, in action during the Team Time Trial
Ooooh those bikes are so PRETTY!

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC Patricia, 1. Yeah, 310W is over my FTP (290W) by 20W and I try to keep it there on long climbs. I find the powermeter is the most awesome pacing tool out there. I see a HUGE difference on longer rides when I pace my effort according to the wattage (sometimes, it might not feel like it, but the high wattage can kill you after a few hours if you are not careful). 2. I think that Contador made a "psychological" mistake. Of course, he is still more than it. And there performance in the TTT brought him back up. But by missing the Columbia moved, it opened the door to all the Armstrong/Contador controversy again. It just proves what Lance said of Contador during Paris-Nice: Contador is the best rider in the peloton but he needs to learn to be more "race smart". What was Johan Bruinel to do when Lance and Popo caught the jump? Tell them to back out of it to rescue Contador? 3. Still think Cav won't be in Green THIS year. But I really hope to be wrong. He still does not have the jump for the climbing sprint finisheds... and there won't be that many pure sprinter stages. Yesterday was the last one for awhile, and they missed it. 4. In regards to coverage, I watch live in French on Canal Evasion. I have the luxury of having a tv in my office. Edited by bryank14 2009-07-09 11:21 AM |

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC Half of today's stage (commute) in the books. Bummer, I flatted along the way. First one in years. The worst is that last week I commented that my ProRace 2's were starting to show some wear!! Made the change okay. But just got about 90psi in the back with my little hand pump. Will need to be careful tonight on the way back considering the tire as a crack in it. And just one extra tube left!!! The cool thing is that I got some nice Continental GP4000 in Columbia YELLOW at home. Will look slick on the black bike. They are 700 X 25 (a tad larger) but the difference should not be that big (although the Michelin PR's are amazing). |

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC My dear friends, we are cursed. Yesterday (stage 5) was the perfect example that the peleton as figured that Cavendish is too strong?? Why, there is no reason for the peleton not too catch Vockler. Why did it happen? Because no other team wanted to do all the work to catch up, to then see Cavendish win again... How sad that they admit his superiority!!! |

Because no other team wanted to do all the work to catch up, to then see Cavendish win again... How sad that they admit his superiority!!! They may be temporarily frustrated, but teams with sprinters will not admit defeat so soon. After a mtn stage or two, they'll come back to test Cav. But you're right, they'll make it difficult for Columbia and will not do much work. But they should not forget the lesson from Stage 3 - fall asleep at your own peril. The excitment continues... There even appears to be some green on his handlebars. I wonder if he had all this worked out before the race, or if he just has some on-the-ball sponsors!!! LOL |

LOL You would be amazed at what happens behind the scene with these guys. Remembering that the jerseys can change everyday, things happen fast. This is all about maximum exposure and tv time for sponsors, etc. I saw a pic somewhere today of a rider with the polk-a-dot jersey (climber) with matching SUNGLASSES!! If you figure the armada of support staff for each time, they have guys back there taking care of everything. There a few good blogs and Twitter feeds of support staff. I will try to post a few good ones. |

I’ve to admit I had no idea Astana is a Kazakh cycling team, and Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan (the last Soviet Republic to declare independence). Riding in pouring rain – that’s fun, or not? Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC Well, with Agritubel crashing our thread, you know who won Stage 7. But I'll continue to post update and pics only after the 24hr ban. Stage 7 – Barcelona, Spain to Arcalis, Andorra, 224km, July 10th Agritubel’s Brice Feillu attacked his daylong breakaway companions to a stage win atop the hors catégorie Andorre Arcalis, as Astana’s Alberto Contador rocketed away from the main group to put time into his rivals for the overall. Rinaldo Nocentini (Ag2r), who joined Feillu in the day’s big breakaway, held on to finish in between Feillu and Contador to take the yellow jersey. Columbia-HTC's Mark Cavendish retains the green jersey, with Cervélo’s Thor Hushovd, just one point behind. Columbia-HTC's Tony Martin also keeps his white jersey for another day, with Saxo Bank’s Andy Schleck just 49sec behind. Tony Martin (L) of Germany and Columbia-HTC chats to team mate Mark Cavendish at the start stage seven of the 2009 TdF from Barcelona to Andorra, on July 10, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain.
