WOOHOO!!!

There's some more detailed info on the course over on the HIM thread for this race, also.

Is anyone else staying at the campground? Camper Village? It appears to be a stone's throw from transition. But it would be more fun if some BT people were there, too!

Just a general question about Wetsuits for this race:

I've signed up for the HIM (sorry, too lazy to find the HIM in the forum Smile, but figured this post applied to both the Full Rev & Half Rev); I've also heard recently that wetsuits were no longer legal in Ironman races, if that rule has passed yet; I'm assuming this is the "Ironman"-sponsored events, so is this race OK to have a wetsuit?  I don't own a wetsuit, but was thinking about buying one for this race....dont' want to do so, obviously, if the suit will be banned; I live in SC so most of my races the water temp prohibits wetsuits.

Anyone know for sure?

I live in Sandusky and am doing my the full Rev 3 tri.... The biking around here (Sandusky) has been pretty windy for sure.  Be prepared for that.

Also can I be included in the practice run?? That would be awesome since 95% of my training is done on my own!

Greetings.  I'll be doing the Cedar Point IM distance as my first timed, official event of this length.  I believe I'm the only entered so far in a wheelchair division.  I'll be using handcycle and racing chair for the bike and run legs.  I see there are some Columbus Ohio participants.  I'm in Westerville.  Wonder about getting together at some point.  I'll be too slow for you on the bike (13 mph average for a century), and too fast on the run portion (5 minute miles).  But our swims might be comparable.  Is there a regular swim gathering at Alum Creek on Saturdays?  Let me know.  Maybe we can connect some week.  I won't be going up to Sandusky to ride the route in advance.  Not enough time in my workload.  Bob M.

Hey all, although I'm not officially signed up, I at least made the effort to reserve a room at the breakers. If you go online it'll act completely sold out until you use the link from the rev3 site, then suddenly there will be like 5 pages of types of rooms available. Be wary however and visit tripadvisor, the older sections of the hotel have gotten utterly terrible reviews. We're putting 4 of us in a room with 2 queens and a sofabed, with a view in tower (new section) from Fri-Mon (3 nights, I don't think the hotel is even open for monday night stays from what they were saying) for $551 after tax. Of that they took 1 night deposit up from so $180ish, but if you cancel up until 3 days before you get everything back except $50.

I figured the potential of losing $50 was worth having a room now that's right next to the start/expo/transition/theme park rather than be scrounging later...

mberries,

Looks like a good group of people from columbus doing the race.

Best place to read about organized columbus trainings is the Ohio forum. I lived in Westerville for almost 25 years. Great place to live and close to alum and hoover. Hope to meet you sometime.

Good luck with training

Everyone interested in going on a training ride June 26 or 27 at the Cedar Point race site - PLEASE fill out this survey now.
We need the info to try to get free parking at Cedar Point so we can meet up in the lot and leave from there.

Getting closer!!! Swam in the lake today, and it is comfy!! I live in Erie, Pa, so we are typically a bit cooler in the lake here (it is much deeper in front of us), so it should be comfy in Ohio for sure! Visibility was fantastic today. I broke in my new wetsuit today (the old one was functioning more as a sail or parachute at this point) and absolutely loved it. Thanks to BT for the sweet deal with Xterra.

Can't wait to get some feedback on the bike course. When somebody gets the chance, if they can shoot over an average gradient and a total elevation gain that would be awesome. If I am the first to get the data I will post it as well. I know it is flatter in Ohio than Pa, but don't know if you guys have a ridge to climb up from the lake. Thanks and keep pumped!

I rode the bike course and it is flat. Only a few rollers.  Wind will be a bit of an issue.

I rode with HED Jet 4 front and Jet 9 rear.  I noticed the wind, but I don't think it was much more of an issue with the race wheels than it would have been without them.  You should be fine with the HED3.

I'm from Iowa, registered for the full length.  This will be my first official Full Length, but have done an Ironman lenght five years ago.  Where I live it is very hilly with 150' roller every mile.  Anybody know the topography of the Sandusky bike and run route.  How is the wind typically in that area.  My best friend mberries got me to try this triathlon and I am so excited about this race.

Did you have any idea of the temperature of the water when you swam?

If i'm not mistaken, i believe the course, one loop only has a total of 500' of elevation change.

As far as the wind:  it can be calm, usual wind coming w to e or nw to se, calm or pretty strong.  Like the swim, anything with lake erie can be a crap shoot.

Swam ina race last aug, mid month, water tem wont be an issue, it will still be nice.  air temps can easily still be in the 80's!

Only issue that can really cause havic is any hurrican remnants that may make its way up north.  Its happened before, I used to coach HS football in my pre tri life.

How was the condition of the roads?  Mostly chip seal? Asphalt? Concrete? Lots of cracks/potholes?  Thanks!

Has anyone seen when the park is going to be open? According to the CP web site it will be closed Friday and Saturday (9/10,9/11) and not open until noon on Sunday (9/12). If that is true there are going to be some very disappointed families that are traveling with the athletes.

I have called Rev3 and also CP but have not received any formal answer on the exact park hours for that weekend. I'm hoping they will at least have some limited hours on Friday and Saturday.

I just read the bike rules attached below and it says no disc wheels or wheel covers allowed. Is this new news or did everyone realize this except me?

No tandems, recumbents, fairings, solid wheels, wheel covers or any add-on device designed exclusively to reduce resistance are allowed. Any new, “”unusual”, or prototype equipment will be subject to a determination of legality by USA Triathlon

Hey guys, sorry for the confusion.  The Cedar Point website may be a bit misleading.  The park IS in fact closed to general public on Friday and Saturday.  That said, it WILL be open for rev3 on those days.  Friday evening, they are working on some limited rides being opened just for Rev3.  Saturday, the park is open all day for Rev3 and another corporate client who has reserved the park for the day.  Sunday, the park is openall day until 8:00pm.  After that, the rides close, but the park keeps its doors open until the last finisher crosses at midnight.  Hope this clears things up a bit.

Coming from the terrible roads I ride in Michigan I thought they were great for the most part.  I heard from a few that Cedar Point Rd is in bad shape, the area we rode from Saw Mill Creek out to do the full loops wasn't great and had some nasty spots where it passes the school on a concrete street.  Once you hit Bogart road and get out of the city it's hammer time with no real issues.

There was a couple of areas with chip seal on the full loop, but otherwise it seemed to be good quality asphalt for the most part with very few pot holes or cracks to worry about once your past the school and Center Street.

Is this really true?  No disc wheels?  Or is this just confusing wording?   That would really suck, and doesn't really make a ton of sense given they are legal in just about every other race.  I thought I had seen them in bike pictures at other rev3 races as well...
