My 1st HM last spring had free beer tent at finish line.  Wasn't a crafted ale from local micro brewery, but was still one of the most satisfying beers ever.

When I did IM Switzerland a couple of years ago, Erdinger was a sponsor (they are like the Budweiser of German speaking countries, only tastier).

In the finish tent, a glass of beer was shoved in front of me.  I declined.  The woman looked hurt and a German guy next to me said, it's OK, take it.

So I drank a beer so as not to be rude to my hosts Smile  When in Rome...

Beer is a celebration of civilization.

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/03/24/science/does-civilization-owe-a-debt-to-beer.html

Without beer, we might well still be hunter/gatherers.

...and I am NOT about hatin' on civilization.

gopennstate - 2009-10-06 10:22 PM I don't even like beer.  But at hour 12 in a race, it was the ONLY thing i could think about.  I could not have been more sick of water, g-ade, coke, etc.  Beer was literally the only thing that was going to satisfy at that point.  I begged several people i saw out on the run course for a sip of theirs....and not a soul would give it up.  Jerks.

At two races I've done (Kansas 70.3 and Dallas White Rock) there have been un-official, makeshift aid stations with beer for the athletes. One guy on the run course at Kansas had a cardboard sign that said "Sponsored by Bush Lite" and they were handing out beer in little dixie cups. They got LOTS of cheers

Even if you didn't take the beer, it would absolutely make me laugh to see that!

Erdinger is NOT the Budwiser of German speaking countries. Don't even mention Erdinger in the same sentance paragraph thread with that horse pi$$.

If I'm not mistaken, consumption of alcohol during a USAT race is grounds for a DQ.  Someone look that up for me as I'm too lazy ......

But beer is good.  And what happens after you drink a bunch (besides getting drunk and realizing that every triathlete on the course is the hottest thing you've ever seen)?  You gotta pi$$ ..... and it is clear, which means you are well hydrated!

I'm also working on a case of Sam Octoberfest.  And when I get Josh's bike switched over, I'll have even more to work on!!

JorgeM - 2009-10-06 7:46 PM I love beer but not after a race unless it is a sprint. After an Oly or HIM my body is usually in shock cuz I pushed it way hard for 2-4.5 hrs. Right after the race I am not even hungry I just want a coke and some water. Later in the day after my stomach settles down, I ate something and I am feeling better I then might consider a beer or 2 or 10...

I'm a Canadian girl who loves some Fat Tire from Colorado or Moose Drool from Missoula!  In 1995's Vancouver Marathon, I think the Hash House Harriers had a 'beer station' not far from the finish line!!

Slugged my way through this whole thread.  Another benefit of beer that has gone un-mentioned is that its a great source of anti-oxidants and isoflavinoids.  All those good things in whole grains, fruits, and veggies.

I'm good for a couple per night!

I have been a member of BT for two years.  Why has it taken this long for someone to start a beer thread?

Here here!  Many times I'll have a beer or two right after a run or ride while sitting in my pool cooling off.  Michelob Ultra Amber has a nice 3:1 carbs to protein ratio too!

Jyles16 - 2009-10-07 12:37 AM kinda want a samuel adams

No joke, presently working on a case of Octoberfest... by presently I don't mean right now at 9:51AM, but a beer or two in the evening here and there.  Not usually a Sam Adams drinker, but I picked up a sampler pack and all except the Cherry Wheat Ale, enjoyed all of them.  Another forum I post at has been talking fall beers... I might have to try a Pumpkin Spice beer of some kind although I'm thinking it might be similar to my Cherry Wheat experience... not really a good beer.

Why do I drink beer, because I enjoy it.  I also believe it is criminal if the grill is going and there is no beer being consumed.  I enjoy an ice cold Corona after working in the yard, in spite of it being a "skunky" beer something about it is refreshing.  My lovely wife even gets one in the freezer for me sometimes as I'm finishing up so its perfect when I trudge up the back steps.

After the local group rides there is always a cooler with beer to be enjoyed.  I've yet to partake in that, but I have been known to crack one when I get home, especially if that grill is going.

If your in VA and want a great Pumpkin ale, go straight to any store that sells some variety of beer and find Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale. They are out of Delaware and the beer is great. Above and beyond any cherry wheat.
