Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ya 1760 yards = 1609 meters = 1 mile. But any swim is better than no swim 8). Nice. Do you know how long it takes to grow back eyebrows and eyelashes? Although if you swing that torch back too far no need to shave underarms... and no patrolium jelly on the nipples either, torch would be bad for that. I cerntainly would not have any problems with the neighborhood dogs trying to attack me anymore... Edited by Baowolf 2009-11-03 6:09 PM |

(Or on your team links table, if that's been created for your team.) Please do NOT worry about changing the spreadsheet "total" columns. Just enter your goals. Later this week, I will correct any issues with the "total" columns. (Yes, I will make sure your numbers are counted in the Team Totals. LOL) Thanks! Dee |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I am off to do 11 miles. It's my long run of the week. Got to finish my tea and let it get just a bit more light out before I take off. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I am going to register for a half mary as a training run for the marathon on February. I think it will be a nice distraction. I am going to have to find some new running routes to help keep the boredom at bay. My music helps a lot but so far I have been doing the same route and it's starting wear on me! What do other folks do for long runs? Stay on the same predictable path (good for a number of reasons) or mix it up and do different routes all the time? Just curious. Curious Toppage! Getting a Garmin helped liberate me from the same old same old. I like exploring a bit. We found a new trail pretty well by accident but it was great! I don't really like music but i pretty well have always had a running partner. Though that may change come the new year. Also, I promise myself post-run starbucks. It's pretty good motivation near the end! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning all! Doing well with the challenge so far. Did a swim and a run yesterday evening. It is dark this time of year but i really like running in the cooler weather - that and not training for anything in particular. I am at a conference that lets out early today so i should have no problem getting my bike in today! wahoo! |

It's pretty good motivation near the end! Yes I do agree the Garmin helps a ton. I use mine for every run. Sometimes I wish I had a running partner, but I usually run alone. Perhaps I like that just a bit better, but then when I do run with friends it makes it all the more fun! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning team I swam yesterday at lunch. I was going to do a strength session last night, but the instructor at the taekwondo class made us do all kinds of exercises...really different than what we usually do. I was all drained after the class....I will count it as a strenght session because that is what we did..... |

We have some really nice trails around where I live but they are about a 20 minute drive to get there. During the week I suffer through the normal run route (well not suffer I live 1 block from the pacific ocean) and then for my long run I head out to the trails and get a change of scenery. |

Like Global, I try to get my long runs done on the trail. This not only changes up the scenery, but inherently slows my pace. I really struggle to slow cadence-pace on the street to meet prescribed times. I usually run alone. I've found that it is really hard to find a training partner that is on the same page as me (schedule, distance, speed, location, etc.). So, I rely on my Ipod to beat out the boredom. |

But the foot has been pain free the last 3 days, so I will attempt a short 30-minute run tomorrow morning and see how it goes. |

I like to mix up my runs. It might be some of the same streets, but running them the opposite way or adding in a street I typically don't run on helps break things up. I even ran on some country roads to break things up. It was nice and quiet. Brick - I hear you on finding a running partner. There is a guy that lives not too far from me that contacted me on the WI forum, but he runs 7:30-8:00 and I run 9:00-10:00 right now. Edited by BigEasy6 2009-11-04 9:10 AM |

I have a few long routes mapped out so I'm not running the same path each time. Plus, I've joined up with the local running store's marathon training group, so in addition to the company (which really isn't my cup of tea...prefer to run alone), I learn new running routes. And the duathlon bike route looks like a perfect long run for me, so I think I'll try that one day when I have to skip the group run. I do miss running trails. I could run the same trail every week and never feel like I was on the same path. It changed so much. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, lets see we don't have paved shoulders, or sidewalks, the pavement pretty much ends at or shortly before the edge of the white line on the side of the road. So I try to run a few routes often enough to beat back some of the vegitation (read goathead thorn bushes) that grow right up to the pavement. Then you can pull the thorns out of your shoes with pliers after the run. The groundsquirls make a lot of holes next to the road, so you have to watch your ankles. My longest runs are either to town for church on Sunday or home from church. Or to town and back on Saturdays. I have infinate trails right from my front door, but some of them get pretty chewed by the open range cattle. In the spring there is mud, the cattle walk through it making nice 5 inch diameter holes that then sunbake into a lovely minefield. I have a great 8.5 mile loop that has an initial 800 foot climb with some nice views and then it is downhill for a ways. If the barbwire fence is up you have to subtract a few minutes from your time for getting through it. The 13 mile loop with the meaner hill takes me to a seasonal lake. This time of year it is dirt, but in the spring it has ducks and all kinds of birds swimming in it. It would be tempting to add the 13 mile loop to the 8.5 mile loop for this Sunday for my long run (about 2 miles would be redundant). I need to see how chewed the 2nd trail is, haven't done that one in a while. My shorter runs are once around the block (4.5 miles) or twice around the block. It all depends on how much time I have, daylight etc. I should link some pictures. As for running partners, well... I am not sure there are any. As for music, I need to hear the cars and cyotees and focus on my footing. Edited by Baowolf 2009-11-04 10:10 AM |

Add bears, loose dogs, tractors, milk trucks, brutal winds and almost continuous fresh farm country air! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great comments from everyone about their long runs!! I just got back from 12.2 miler and I feel great, it was a particularly lovely morning. I did my usual route, but had some time to think and bolstered by everyones comments I am going to spend some time mapping out some new routes for next weeks run. On Sundays I do a 6-7 miler in town, it's the only time quiet enough to run in that area. Otherwise I am on the local rails-to-trails, boring but predictable and safe (it is pretty in the woods though). We do have lots of rural roads and some running friends live out that away so I think I have some good sources to get some info from. I am not scared of running on the roads but I like to stay away from busy intersections if possible. Hope everyone has a great day! |

Stay on the same predictable path (good for a number of reasons) or mix it up and do different routes all the time? Just curious. Curious Toppage! The beauty of training for a half marathon/marathon is the variety you can throw into your training. I'm currently on the BT half marathon training program (Silver member). Just this week I've got 5 different variations of workouts (not that I'll do them all...it's the off-season ![]() 60 min speedwork @ tempo (usually @ lactate threshold [low zone 4] or 10K pace) 30 min @ zone 2 (roughly marathon pace) 45 min ladder (Z1 to Z2 to Z3 to Z1) 40 min speed work (pickups at 5K pace) 70 min hillwork (heart rate can get up to Z3/low Z4 Workouts seem like they go fast, because you are focused on maintaining a heart rate. It's fun to watch pace improve at the same heart rate (o.k., so I'm a data geek). One other variation is to run with no electronics (no watch, no GPS, no heart rate monitor). Just go out for fun...these are some of my favorite runs. I never run with music. Running is my time to collect thoughts, mentally plan my week and enjoy nature. As far as where I run...wherever I can get it in. This will add variety to your workouts. Treadmill (1% grade), treadmill - hill program, indoor track, outside trails, drop kids off at soccer practice and run during their practice. Last year while marathon training, I split up one of my 20-milers. I left work clothes at work the night before, drove halfway to work the next morning, ran the rest of the 10 miles into work, then ran 10-miles back to my car after work. The variety keeps things interesting... Happy training! |
