... Short of injury or ...

How about others?

/*corny scottish accent*/ Aye, there's the rub! /*end accent*/

I hurt my knee last week. It's an old injury and it'll get better again, just slowing me down for a bit. Swimming is the only thing I *have* been able to do so far this week so I should be OK for the challenge if I get another swim during the coming weekend. Not kicking as much, but it's still getting done.

I like the avatar too Renee. Definately different.

Hit 15k today, a little ahead of pace toward my 19,200 goal.

Love the new avatar Renee!

Good swimming everyone!

BTW Calgary Runner, my total and goal should be meters. Should have told you earlier.

I'll try to remember this when updating the spreadsheet this weekend.

Good job everyone.

Looks like I was just a bit too slow getting my Sat. swim entered. Don't worry about it just for my total, but if you have others to do too mine could be updated for this week.

I'm on target to meet my goal for the month.  How about you ?

Short of injury or getting sick I should slightly exceed goal. (3 people in my department at work are off sick with the flu...).

Hmmm didn't take into account the impact a family member getting sick might have on my swim plans....my wife came down with the flu yesterday so I didn't get my swim in today. Will have to readjust my schedule - might be able to swim a few extra lengths tomorrow night after Tri Swim class.

I am going to be getting in a couple of extra swims the first of the week since we are leaving town on Thursday.  I think I will do 2 swims on Wednesday.  I don't want to be stuck on the 31st with a bunch of yards to do.  I'm already thinking to Feb and not sure how i'm gong to make it work.  Going to be out of town a bunch and it wasn't really planned.  Guess I need to find a pool where I am going...didn't someone post a link somewhere to a "pool finder"?

Have a great day!  By the way, kind of "prize" soes the winner of this challenge get??

The right to change their signature line declaring themselves as the Winner of the Sole Swimmer Challenge? Anyone have the time to come up with an Avatar to go along with this? I'm thinking something along the lines of the Survivor logo?

Just finished my best swimming week for a while. A couple more swims and I should be able to squeak by my goal for this month.

Right on pace. Currently I am at 86.6 % of this months goal. With 2 more swims scheduled I will meet and pass my goal by +/- 3000 meters.  As per the rules of the challange is next month distance  a)  January's  goal + 10%   or  b) Actual swim + 10%. ??

What are the peoples avatars / sig-line going to be who fail to meet the challange and get voted off?  The end of the month is drawing near poeple time to make waves.

Interesting question. My guess would be, for those who have met January's goal, then to continue in Febuary a) is required and b) is recommended. That's sort of how the original post said to handle setting January's goal from December's challenge. I wouldn't want to see b) required, as that may stop people from swimming extra when they have the chance. (or just not reporting it?) Just my 2 cents ...

I prefer it when we focus on celebrating each other's successes instead of imposing penalties.

Well let me re-state the question.  Since I will be changing my avitar at the end of the month.  For those of us that have completed the January side Challange, what shall we use for our avitars. ?

I think Steve sujested something along the lines of Survivor.  I like the idea.  Just need somebody to come up with something.  I am all thumbs when it come to this stuff but will give it a try.

When I originally thought this up I envisioned it being a 10% increase each month on your goal - if you don't make your goal then you are voted off. Eventually there'd only be one person left completing their goal.

I'm not for penalties either - though some people may view this as incentive.

How about we come up with a good "Surivor" logo for our Avatar that those of us who make our goals can use? This way like you said - no one is voted off. If you didn't make your goal for January then try the same in February. If you did make your goal in January then increase it in February. There won't be an end to this though...

I thought, I still think , correct me if I am wrong, but the challange is to make your goal for the month in order to continue.  Last man swimming wins.  The avitar (s) and sig line can provide the bosting rights that you have met your goal for the month and that you have survived to continue on.

OK --- I'm nearly there!  As of today I am 92.8% complete -- only 1800 little yards to go to make goal, so I'll finish my goal on my Friday Swim!

As for February, I'm probably going to drop my swim yardage 5k to about 20K from 25K, because I need to spend a bit more time on the bike and running.  Continuing to increase my swim yardage right now will come at the expense of the others I'm afraid.   I'll still get in the 20K ballpark, and perhaps make 25K again.  Of course, I've got 2.5 months of increases built in since my December challenge was 20k and I set 25K this month -- a full 25% increase over Decembers committment.  Can I use that and stay in the game???

Happy Swimming all!

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make it; but I shall keep trying. It's been a crazy work week for me and my running workouts have priority because of my marathon next month. If I swim tomorrow, Sunday and Tuesday I just might get there.
