Extreme Veteran 1279 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I will not be camping, but would LOVE the opportunity to park at someone's site if they aren't using both parking spots. I'll pay my share of the rental to be able to do so. I would actually like 2 of these so that my family can have a known parking space when they arrive and a place for my girls to play while they wait for me to come around during the race. Can anyone help me out? |

Extreme Veteran 1279 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Catwoman - What is the bike course like? How hilly is it? I found out today that around the 32 mile mark you better be ready for some grueling hills. Get through about 5 miles of that, and you have a great ride for 8 or so more miles, then one more grueling hill up to the dam and the final push into T2. It really is a great bike route and a cool setting for a triathlon. |

Extreme Veteran 815 Shawnee, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread It has it's challenging spots, but there are only 3 or 4 hills that are steep, most are gradual inclines. It is a nice course and most of the roads are in good shape, there are a few stretches that have chip seal and can be a little rough. |

I live near Galveston, Texas. Here's my Garmin file (bike) from last year - there's an elevation chart on there so you can see the hills. I consider it "hilly" coming from Wichita/Kansas, but not un-doable. I was surprised the first few times I rode the course I'll tell you that. Friends who have come from Chicago have said it seems like there are VERY FEW true flats - you are always either going up or down. Lots of false flats and of course the climbs. That being said, it is by far my favorite bike course I've ever ridden. Fair, challenging, and gorgeous. |

Compared to the Galveston area and the Coastal Plains it will be hilly, but if you have much experience in Texas Hill Country it will be ok I'm guessing. This is based on Lisa's Garmin download. |

Member 20 Davis, Ok | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Finished a tough 1/2 marathon this weekend in the arbuckle mountains of southern oklahoma. One way and the wind was blowing hard into our face the whole time and the mtns played a factor, hills to you folks where the real mtns are. Ran it in 1 hr 51 min. Was able to ride 27 pretty hard miles right after the finish of the 1/2 so feel pretty good. This sport is hard on a 200 pound baseball coach, but I love it. Keep it up, not far away folks. |

New user 2 Germantown | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Is there anyone from KS area on this forum? I was wondering how likely it will be that the swim will be wetsuit legal this year. I was injured last year and I didn't do this race. I did this one in 2010 and it was just bearly wetsuit legal with water temps of 77.5 degrees. But that was befoe IM changed the rule to 76 degrees. I am nearly terrified of doing the swim without a wetsuit. So I was hoping it will be legal. |

Veteran 305 Springfield/Branson | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread It will definitely be iffy this year because of the mild winter and warm spring temps already. I know Tablerock lake here in SW MO is already up to mid 60's which is unheard of this time of year. I would prepare for a nonwetsuit swim, but bring it anyway which is how you should train anyway. |

Kansas weather is ever changing... last Sunday it was 85 degrees, and yesterday the high was in the 50s. I've had both my a/c and heater on in my car this week! You just never know. |

I'm not doing a specific HIM plan, but I'm doing the 22 week IM plan for IMWI in Sep so I plan to do a taper week for this race. I did get our camping spot reserved a few weeks back. |

See map, which indicates bike start and finish are in the same location. Different than years past: I'm going to vote no. All other maps indicate two transitions and the same run start as in prior years. My guess is that a "T" was just slapped on the map to indicate the general area of both transition areas. It is misleading. However, I can't find anything on the website right now that explicitly states there is one or two transitions. |

Seems like they would have had maps from past years to keep or use. Can you tell from the run map posted if it has changed - like the start point? I have no recollection of the run course in years past, it was confusing to remember. |

The bike just kept getting put off, and at this point I don't think I have the time to properly train. Sure I could wing it like the half I did last year, but this one will cost me about 4x as much to do so no winging it lol. On another note the water temp is around 65 as of 23 apr, you can check it on the site below, they only update it about once a week. http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/cl/daily.cfm
