I agree,

They could save so much time at packet pickup by putting answers to basic questions out there.  Kind of annoying.

The racking situation seems to be in the air.  Assigned by number to the spot?  Array of numbers to a rack?

Everyone seems to be worried about the run with 1400 racers.  I wonder if they are accounting for that or just hoping it works out?

Granted I didn't scour the website, but it's so slow when I try to access it, I lost focus.

Did anyone see a elevation profile of the bike course?

It would be nice to see wave start times.  Maybe they will have those at packet pickup?

Just seems they could do so much more with the website and emails.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure RR is up to his eyeballs, but if he needs more help, they should hire it and keep people a little better informed.  All these forum questions should go on the site with official answers.  Just my 2 cents.

I'd check out the FB page, but it's blocked at my work, so that's not an option for me.

Totally agree, I mean most of these questions they have to know. Otherwise it's going to be a mess.  I mean hire an intern to watch facebook and reply to questions! You can bet they have provided the pros with all of the answers!

Luckily I got in with the $50 early bird price, so either way it's not a huge suck on finances.  If it's great, I only paid $50 and got a great product.  If it's less than stellar, at least I only paid $50.

Now... I just have to avoid glass on the road and not flat out my tubulars I know nothing about fixing a flat on.

I only paid $50 for this race and seem to be getting what I expected for a sub $150 race. If I had paid $150 or more I would be miffed though.

Guess I'm spoiled in Kansas... I've never paid over $80 for a "long distance" or olympic triathlon.

WTC's 70.3 races are a different story...

Is clear cut information lacking from the website. Sure. But I'm confident that the race itself will go well. The only real concern I have is that there are going to be too many competitors for the course to handle. But I can't really judge that until I'm out there racing.

ETA: I'll also say that what gets decided (rack assignments, wave start times, etc) makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. One way or another I'm going to show up and race regardless of what the minor details are. Knowing them now or come packet pickup isn't going to change anything. The question(s) I'm more concerned with is: "Have I trained appropriately enough."

I'm going to try to go to packet pickup today just to see if there are more answers there.  Now if I can just shake this cold virus I picked up yesterday...  Frown

Ditto That.  I'm sitting here with a fractured collar bone and can't race, reading all this.  You princesses need to just HTFU and prepare to swim/bike/run under the SAME conditions as everyone else.  The RD has a good track record so I would go into this with a glass half full.

Well the whole question about rack assignments will make a difference on what time I get up and depart for the race. If they are individually-assigned spaces or racking available Saturday, there will be no point in getting there super early. But if it's a free-for-all on race morning---- different story.

Would be nice to know for planning purposes, not making last minute decisions, etc.

For me the basics are this: race location, start time/date, course maps, packet pickup, and cost. These are the things I need to decide to do a race, prepare to race, and show up to race. These things are known. Everything else are minor details.

Eh, I'll show up early anyway.   We already know it's going to be a bigger race. They've told us parking will be a half mile away from transition. I'm going to want to avoid that whole stress and get there early. I don't mind chilling around in transition pre-race.

As long as T-Storms and 25 mph wind gusts stay away I am happy!

Time to HTFU and say, "Bring It On KC 5150, show me what you got!"

True, but they haven't provided elevation maps, wave start times (do I need to bring extra nutrition if my wave starts 2hrs after transition closes?), racking information, parking information, etc. At least I can't find it for the life of me on their web site.

All basic information in my mind... I like to know what I'm doing sooner than a few hours prior to the race, in a strange town and such. Maybe I ask for too much

O.K. I meant that in a joking way, mainly to those who know me.  I do agree more info is in the "nice to have" category.

Exactly. I'm coming from Wichita. It would be nice to know about racking so I know how long I will have to deal with my bike on the rack when we get in town on Saturday, can I get it in the hotel early, etc.

I've done the work. Physically I'm going to kick . But race start time is basic. And they have not told us.

Also, kinda sexist on the princess comments. Lots of ladies out there who can kick my (and your butt broken collerbone or not)

I am guessing they will give the wave start times at packet pick up. ATB(I think that is you Andy B), if it it is, you will be in my AG and I always assume the 30-34 and 35-39 men go off last. Hopefully someone who is picking up today can help those of us out who can't pick up til Saturday with our missing answers.

Well, Facebook is schooling me (no thank to race staff, but participants are answering my questions).

Apparently buried in the Schedule of events page, we can do our own math and see that the 5i50 starts at 7:30 and the sprint starts at 8:30, so after transition closes at 7:00 we will all be off by at least 8:30.

Sorry, I get riled up at bad communication, being a communications professional . I'll just go with the flow now and hope for the best.

Funny, I couldn't get a straight answer to the rack question 3 years ago and still have the same problem today.  If the transition spots are assigned (one and only one spot to rack the bike for each race number) I will be transporting 3 actual princesses with me to the race.   But if I think I've got to get to the race site by 5:00 am to get one of 1200 spots available for 1400 bikes then the princesses will be driving separate, if at all, you don't wake princesses up at 4am.  Note, I am not alleging that there will be an actual shortage of transition racks, don't mean to start any rumors here, I have no doubts that actual execution on race day will be top notch, they even scrape roadkill off the road for us.

WHAT!?  Only 1200 spots for 1400 racers!?  That's HUGE!  Thanks for breaking that news!  All the poor saps that don't read the forums will be screwed!

Short 200 spots... that's bad mojo.

WTC strikes again...

HAHA.  Just trying to perpetuate the rumor....  Wink

Here is a link to most of the bike course, when I rode it last Saturday.

The so called hill is at mile 10 on the elevation profile. 150' gain in elevation.

Enjoy
