Here's the important difference from last season: he's not getting in trouble, he's fending for himself. You notice how he's now handling a gun & acting responsibly? The writers are making the kid important, which is more like the comics anyway. One of the biggest themes of the comic is watching Carl turn into a young man.

Carl's never going to 'stay in the house', but he's not like a wounded lamb walking through a lion's den any more.

No more whiskey?  That IS the end of the world.

I was watching and thinking, hmm this Governor guy isn't that bad.  and then...

I got a feeling you'll like him less as things progress...

I was just happy that they answered some of the more pressing questions - like, "Why don't zombies starve if they constantly feel the need to feed?" and "Who the heck has been cutting all of the grass during the apocalypse (see prison yard grass)?"

Perhaps some of the zombies are herbivores and like to eat grass.   

What's with the fish tanks?  Is that something that gets answered later or did we lose something when the comic got translated into tv? 

That had to be the worst written fight scene in the series so far. I know they are just trying to show how ruthless they are and that they are prepared to fight but really?... Really? The just walk up to a group of armed National Guard and take them all out without a big fire fight or losing any of their guys? That was just bad TV right there.

The rest of the show was ok but just a lot of set up for later shows.

Well it WAS the National Guard afterall...

I agree though, that scene could've been done a few different ways where he earned their trust and then killed them or poisoned them or something. 

I thought it was a little funny how upset Michonne and Amanda were so outraged by the way the Governor was killing zombies.  And then I realized that they didn't know the whole "no matter how you die, you come back..." part.

As soon as I saw how the trucks were parked I knew they were going to have the governor kill them all. I mean really so you are all trained solders in the Z apocalypse who just had your whole base overrun and what do you do? You park randomly in an open field with no kind of defensive formation? Ok I know I am ranting but that was just super lame to me but I still have hopes for the show this season.

I'm with you.  I think my 13 year old daughter could come up with a better defensive position than they were in.  Even after the Governor shot the one guy they were all just standing there waiting to get shot.  um yeah.

I agree.  He didn't even hit him in the head and use one bullet for both zombie and man.  He hits him in the shoulder...

I also liked Amanda "That's some heavy gunnery you have up there..." What? the 30-06 with a scope?

I'm very distressed by the lack of Mk-19s in the movie. 

My prediction for the village...They'll all die because they aren't doing enough Rule no 1---Cardio...

If you read the graphic novels, it gets worse with the Governor...  Much worse.  Michoene finds out.

I don't think it's that unrealistic.  National Guard guys are freaked out.  Walkers just took out their encampent and they barely got out.  They've been waiting 2 days for word from the Lt.  They're scared an unsure.  They think any attack would be coming from walkers, not people, and so I'm not shocked that they could so easily be taken by surprised.  In battle, confusion and indecision can cause enough delay to result in an catastrophic end.
