Pro 5761 Bartlett, TN | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Open I asked about the trainer because I found some trainer workouts on triathlon.competitor.com and I wondered if anyone else had used a set plan. I know when I work through intervals, gears, or speed sessions, I get alot more out of the trainer than just spinning for an hour.
Check them out herebut clicking JFORD RULES!!! LOL (not a joke or anything,it is a true workout)

New user 37 OKC | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Open Speaking of trainers, got my trainer workout in today. I already feel like I'm behind the curve for the season compared to everyone else in the group. Only did a 1 hour ride (16-17 mile guesstimate). I'll be upping my workout amounts soon, but didn't want to jump up too fast. Also realized I need to make some purchases for this season already (new swim goggles & new tires for sure, plus I should probably go in with my bike and get "properly fitted" since I've never done it and the bike fit feels "off"... just need some extra money for that one). |

I have a 6 miler (I'm hoping to get through....since it's been 3 weeks since my 11 miler, I've got to cut it back)...then a TON of 'honey do's" to get done.... I'm going to do a cleaning of my bike, lubing, etc....because Tuesday I'm slated to start my trainer rides....just two days a week but that'll replace some running days (which I dislike, so this will help with the mental/physical part.) I am in the midst of a long weekend (Friday was an RDO from work). I did my long run 1:50 (16k/10mil) on Friday morning. It was so hot! And it is even worse today. Currently (2pm) it is 33.8 degrees C (93F) so I am having an indoor trying to stay cool day. I have about a 70min ride planned for this afternoon when it gets a bit cooler. Tomorrow is a long ride of 4 hours. I would love to hit the 100k mark, but more than likely I'll fall short at around 95km. However it will be my longest ride ever in terms of time and distance, so I'm looking forward to breaking that record before a recovery week next week. |

Member 110 Denton, TX | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Open very tough week for me mentally. I won't share details, but I had to go to a funeral last night. My question is this: how detrimental, if any, is it to do a workout in the morning such as running, then do the cycling in the evening or perhaps weights in the evening (for the legs)? I just don't see myself getting 1.5-2 hrs on the bike in the morning. thanks |

I ended up splitting up a lot of exercises, mostly swimming in the morning, and running/biking in the evening. I don't like doing long workouts before work. |

Keep hydrated! So- you're probably in the opposite side of your training plan than most of us, we're just trying to stay warm over our winter. Last time I was near Brisbane, it was October, and just the perfect temp! Although, I did get lots of funny looks when I went out running early in the morning- most people were still stumbling home from the bars.

Sorry to hear about the funeral! To answer your question, I do double workouts twice a week. I run in the morning and then ride at night, there is no way for me to get it all in before work. I see no problems with it and have done it for two seasons! |

New user 91 | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Open Questions...... As I am slowly learning about bikes and looking to get one. I am finding there is a huge difference between the stack and reach of road bikes vs tri bikes. I have found that a stack of about 560 and a reach of 390 is very close to ideal for me. I have found that I can get very close to that on road bikes but not Tri bikes. I can get the stack close but the reach is 5-8 cm long, or the reach is on and the stack is 6-8 cm short. I was measured for a road bike. is there a different measurement to be taken for Tri bikes? if not should I get closer on the stack or reach for the better fit?

I see no problems with it and have done it for two seasons! Your second workout will always be harder/more difficult than if you were to do it fresh, even if it is a morning/afternooon split. You need to prioritise your workout and put the most important workout (ie your weakness or the breakthrough workout - such as long rides/runs or tempo/intervals for the shorter distances) first (eg in the morning) and anything else in the afternoon. Eg the way my current schedule looks, I often do my long run (90mins plus) in the morning, then a long, easy swim in the afternoon. Long run is the priority, and the swim is easy enough that even though I am tired, I can still do a good quality workout. Look at your own training and schedule and think about yourself and your strengths and weaknesses and the time you have available to train. |

Felt like a tough ride so I am sure looking forward to my recovery week this week. Was 3:57 and did just over 90km (56mi). Longest ride ever in terms of time, but equal obviously to a HIM distance which I have done. I guess I will have to wait for a few weeks to crack the 100k! To be honest, I don't know if I prefer the heat or cold. I think the extremes at either end aren't fantastic, but I love being able to jump in a pool and cool down after a workout, rather than having to get in a hot shower to warm up. |

New user 91 | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Open Nadamson12 - 2013-01-11 9:14 AM Weekend is looking pretty easy. I have a 20 mile bike ride today (hopefully outside if the weather holds) of not I will be borrowing the Mother-in-law's trainer. Rest day on Sat. then another indoor Tri on Sunday. This time I will remember not to wrestle with my two boys and get flying knee to the back the day before the race. It is a simple 500 m Swim, 6 mile stationary Bike, and 2 mile track run. This will be the third of the year (one a month) starting out goal since they were my first ever tri's was to finish in under an hour which I did on the first one coming in at 58:37. Now I want 45 min and under.
Finished in 53:16 so it is getting better... 10:39 swim (500m) 17:34 bike (6 mile stationary bike) and 22:24 run (2 mile track run). So with 3 left to go I am on track to hit my 45 min time. I think I can drop another 1-2 min on my swim with the help of a coach I have hired, and hopefully another 1-2 off the bike and 4-6 off the run. Just have to keep training and working. |

If however you don't feel you have a good enough base, then do as you have suggested. Just my 2 cents. |
