Anyone's free to join but I will give a full report. What's your plan on the logistics for 8/30 (parking, departure point/time, etc)? I picked up a room at TownePlace Suites Las Vegas Henderson for $89 per night for race weekend, couple miles from the finish line. I am staying at GVR, which is right down the street. It's around 20 miles to Boulder Beach. So if we want to start at the beginning of the bike course we would probably need to drive. Or thinking simpler to just start near the hotels and catch the course route where it hits Northshore drive. That would skip the first 8 or 9 miles out of Boulder Beach but give a good look at the rest of the course. So something like this. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/498047996 Wanted to hit early. 6, 630? I know that's probably late for you. Sent you a friend request to see the route you created. I created one too, so I think I see what you are getting at, that looks good. Yeah, I was planning on being back home in bed by 6:30, but I can make an exception for the late start time just this once. I'm on track to be able to make it for a ride on the 30th, I'll keep you posted. |

Extreme Veteran 566 Southern California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Originally posted by StevenC Check out that route now. Perfect. I think 6:00 am would be good, taking a little longer now for the sun to rise. I don't have the TT equiped with the headlight for pre-dawn riding anyway. |

Regular 161 Los Angeles | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Mapped it on mapmyrun using the pdf they uploaded - http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/498161430 My experience with mapmyrun is that they tend to be off by by 40% or so - so if they show about 800 feet of gain, I am going to assume about 1100 feet of gain on the actual route.

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Originally posted by dondie Has anyone checked routes on garmin connect or strava for last years worlds course? That might be accurate depending on the device used. I've done some 10-is mile runs with 1000 foot elevation and that's pretty hilly. My recollection of the course (as a spectator) was that it had one mile ish clb and the rest rolling. 1100 sounds like a lot to me, almost 100 feet per mile. Currently in Milwaukee for USAT nationals so searching on the phone etc is tough. Regular 161 Los Angeles | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Pretty certain that it is 3 loops, going over the same 4 mile hill (2 miles up/2 miles down) 3 times, the hill itself is about 230 feet high based on mapmyrun... all in all, I'd be ready to climb about 1000 feet, but it'd be nice to see the actual GPS run record. |

i agree, i did the Xterra 22k trail run in Malibu and i believe it's about 1100 feet (give or take) of elevation gain and it was quite hilly! |

I did the 18K with a 910 in Oct. 2013, extremely hilly, if that's the same race. Big big climbs. 1800 feet. Barometric altimeter, no elevation correction. xterra 18K i'm going on record that silverman is not 1000 feet of elevation, but we'll see in October I guess Or maybe StevenC can run a loop and report back
ETA - here's a mapmyrun entry. No idea of the recording device or whether it was just mapped. 680 feet

You're right! my 910 showed 3,909 feet of total elevation gain.. my 910 has been having some elevation issues so when i upload to garmin connect, i need to "enable" the elevation correction.. |

Regular 161 Los Angeles | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Thanks for linking to the article. One interesting discrepancy - it lists the bike elevation gain as 2543 feet, while the Ironman posted more like 4272 feet of gain on their site for what is essentially the same course. |

LOL, who knows what is right! I'd say the bike course is probably 4200 feet or so. Oceanside has 2500 feet, and don't think it's as hilly..... so run elevation is all over the place. maybe it is 1000 feet. Guess I'll keep running those hills! I guarantee the swim will be flat!
