Big Rock here I come. Some Donut and Wheatgrass rides will kick my butt too.

I am actually heading out to Vegas in a few weeks to meet some friends and going to ride the course again. Want to see if I fair better at 60 degrees vs. 90.

Will be staying in Henderson the weekend of this race and debating signing up. :/ Raced IMFL and IMCoz last year and have done a few 70.3 races. The hills for this race scare me...a LOT. Insight from veterans???

There are not any real "climbs" at silverman IMO, but it's always up or down. Yes it's a bit hard, but it's not crazy. Just make sure you train hills, as well as moderate climbs on the run

It was one of the harder races I have done but the scenery is beautiful. My garmin clocked the bike course at 4,700 feet of elevation gain, so there is a bit of climbing but no long sustained ones. I overbiked based on my level of fitness and conditions, it was >90 degrees, so paid for it on the run. Chris is right... on both the bike and run you are always going up or down, very few flats. I will be back this year so it couldn't have been that bad.

Be comfortable climbing hills and maximizing your speed on descents. Be comfortable running rollers in dry heat. The DNF rate was through the roof last year...

My wife and i are both signed up for Silverman and wondering where to stay.
We expect to be there for 7 days, it will be a mini-vacation for us and first time in Vegas.

Is it realistic to stay near the strip (i like resort type hotels) or should we be staying in Henderson ?
Still debating also if we are flying our bikes or renting.

Thanks

Do you know what it was (i mean, the DNF, I know it was Hot

My other advice if I didn't say it above is save something for the last 5-8 miles of the bike.  You're our of the park, and the bigger climbing is dine, but it's still uphill to T2, I found this to be the toughest part of the day mentally on the bike

Stay in Henderson the nite before the race then to the strip.  Green Valley Ranch is supposed to be very nice.

1576 were scheduled to race, 37 DQ or DNS, 151 DNF - 9.8% DNF rate.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
