Have two people ever taken as long to get anywhere as Arya and the Hound? Danerys has circled Slaver's Bay, conquering whole cites as she goes, Theon's sister has sailed to try to save him, Sansa has fled from King's Landing to the Aerie (which is apparently far enough away that it's winter there), the Mountain has ridden all the way back from wherever he was busy raping and pillaging, Jon Snow and the Rangers have gone to Craster's Keep and back, and Arya and the Hound are still miles from anywhere. Every time I start to root for Jaimie Lannister, I'm reminded that he's a guy who pushed a ten-year old kid out a tower window. The great thing about Game of Thrones is that anyone, at any time, can go sailing through the Moon Door. As soon as he made her smile, I knew she was going through the hole, but I didn't see it coming until the second before it happened. I know this is coming from an engineer, but I have a hard time figuring out how they have an entire courtroom of stone building over air. I suppose it cold be cantilevered over the edge, but probably it bridges a canyon - HOWEVER, you don't see any canyon walls when looking down. Great for TV, but not sure it could be built like that. Pfft, everyone knows that if you mix dragon-bone powder into the mortar it increases the strength exponentially, so that you can easily cantilever a whole castle over a ravine. Where'd you get your engineering degree, Dothrak? (snerk) Edited by jmk-brooklyn 2014-05-21 10:36 AM |

Can you imagine the amount of steel you'd have to use to suspend that kind of weight over a cliff like that. Not to mention, how the heck did they get all that stone up there in the first place to build it? Dragon's doing the heavy lifting perhaps? |

They do seem to be taking quite a while. My favorite story line of last season was the Jon Snow/Ygritte love story, but they seem to be taking their time on that one. Please don't whack Ygritte, she's my fav. I absolutely love the story line with Tyrion this year. He's developed into my favorite character on the show. I agree with you on Jamie, he is developing into a very likable character, but has a lot of past sins to atone for in my eyes. It seems as though his time with Brienne has really changed him. Losing his hand has also given him a dose of humble pie. I'm genuinely curious how far he'll go. It's a totally hypothetical question, but, I wonder, if Jamie hadn't lost his hand and still felt he had a chance against the Mountain, would he have stepped up as Tyrion's champion if no one else had? It would have been a huge betrayal (in their eyes) of Cersea and Tywin, but I don't know if I could see him sitting idly by while his brother was cut in two over something Jaimie knows in his heart he wasn't guilty of. Even if we believe that he would have, it still doesn't redeem him totally to me. That said, I agree with you that his time with Brienne had a profound effect on him. It's not for nothing that the sword he gives her (as well as the episode it took place in) were called "Oathkeeper". Brienne is nothing if not loyal, almost to a fault. I think he came to really admire that quality and detest the part of himself that always placed self-interest over duty or loyalty or honesty. Whereas before, I think he enjoyed Cersea's treacherous side, he's come to realize that a) it's not all that cute after all and b) that he's been as much a pawn in her games as anyone else, going all the way back to when they were kids. |

Yeah, he's going down after a good fight. Unless he yields? That's a PREDICTION, not a spoiler. Martin could have him winning, he surprises me all the time with his twists...

I think he kills Oberyn, mainly because RR kills pretty much anyone with redeeming qualities when they face someone without redeeming qualities. But I haven't read the books, so I'm just guessing. |

That's one thing that's really interesting about several shows these days. It used to be that you always knew the "main characters" were always safe in every series, but with shows like Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and others you never know what is going to happen. Traditionally, the good guy always wins and we'd automatically know that the mountain would lose and Tyrian would be set free. However, with the way things go in this series we have no clue. The mountain could win and kill Tyrion immediately afterwards for all we know. doh I'm still going through withdrawals from no show Sunday. |

Yeah, you should have seen the wife's face when she excitedly exclaimed "We have a Game of Thrones to watch tonight!!!!!" and then see it go through the changes when I told her they skipped a week for some reason... Maybe the holiday? Confused, then crestfallen, then frustrated/angry. |

This was one instance where I felt like seeing it was way better than reading it. I knew it was coming, and was still upset. Ugh. HE HAD IT!!!! HAD IT! Dang it. Otherwise, the whole "smashing beetles" conversation Jamie and Tywin had was long. It could have been shorter.

Seemed like a total waste of time. From what a coworker told me who read the books is the mountain dies later in the books from that fight but from poison on the blade of his spear. So I would guess he's dead in the show. Next two epsidoes look good, a lot on the wall and hopefully more action. I feel like there's been a lot of filler this season. |

My only thought on Arya laughing was that she was laughing at the Hound because he brought her all that way for a ransom and wasn't going to get it. I could be over simplifying it though. Arya was, I thought, just laughing at the absurdity of their horrible, horrible luck. And a little at the Hound, too. I think the monologue about the beetles was meant to foreshadow the duel (specifically Tyrion's death sentence for a crime he didn't commit), Arya's arrival at the Aerie to find her aunt dead, and weird, dim, but ultimately innocent Prince Robin's being sent out into the world, presumably to be assassinated by Baelish's minions. Tyrion's looking for a reason for why these harmless bugs are being smashed to pieces by his cousin, and eventually figures out that there is no reason for it at all. Bad stuff happens to people for no reason at all; we're all just beetles at the end of a rock. Remember Tyrion's line from last episode? "If you want justice, you've come to the wrong place." Injustice seems to be a theme of this season. Shae's betrayal of Tyrion, Khaleesi's crucifixion of the innocent architect, Lady Arryn's betrayal and murder by Baelish, the slaughter of the surrendering army at Moat Cailin, and so on. Sansa's figured it out. She's tired of being a beetle; she's going to try her hand at being a rock for a change. |

One writer whose article I read about last nights episode suggested that Grey Worm and Missandei are brother and sister (or otherwise related somehow). There was a LOT of talking about what he does or doesn't remember about his life before he became Unsullied, so his thought was that she either knows or suspects that he's her long lost brother or something. Makes the part about her being glad he saw her naked a little weird tho. |

My wife and I call it the cable network series obligatory ti**y scene... You know, the one time an episode where some brothel girl, or stripper, or bedroom/bathing scene (depending on the era) has some naked girl showing the goods for no particularly important reason other than for male, 20-35 demographic. (OK, maybe then entire male demographic!)
We were also talking about the typical "take your eye off the "dead/dying' guy that is SO overplayed and aggravating to me. I mean COME ON. How many times are they going to that? It's so absurd. The hero that instead of putting two extra bullets into the bad guy which would take about 1 extra second instead TURNS THEIR BACK COMPLETELY TO THEM to care for the love interest. The guy could have EASILY did the interrogation about his sister at the end of the spear with the other end in the Mountains throat. But NO... He's got to walk around gloating/celebrating within arms reach. Seriously - just finish them off like 99.9% of people would actually do in that situation. but I guess you can't take on of the most overused dramatic crutches away from writers... I also thought the beetle monologue was a bit wordy and I usually like everything that comes out of tyrion's mouth... Arya laughing was awesome. I replayed it 3 times just to hear it and watch her face. Classic. I bit weird it was about her aunt and her chance for "freedom" and to be home again. Maybe she figured she was there regardless, and the Hound wouldn't get his coin. She never met her aunt either. I will be interesting to see if she stays or goes with the Hound.
