Extreme Veteran 660 Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Thanks Chicograds and Baowolf! I was been ending my swim sessions with a little pool running and I think that has helped. I have been run/walking a couple of times a week as well - like really more like walk/running with 2-3 minutes walking, 1 minute running. Today was the first time I actually did a little more running than walking! I will probably keep this up until my "real" training plan starts in a few weeks. So far, the foot has felt pretty good with only the occasional ache. |

Itching to sign up for a half ironman just not sure if it is too late It's not too late if you're starting from a decent place fitness wise. If you look around, you can find a number of 16-week training plans, or you could use a 20-week plan and skip the first week or two to make it line up with the race in Galveston. Galveston is typically considered a pretty good race for a first HIM. It can be warm and a little breezy, but the course is pretty forgiving. |

New user 30 Northwest | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 @Nicolerea, It is not too late. A simple way to gauge your base leading into a 16-week plan (starting January 4th) would be the following. Swim- 1200 yards; Bike 25 miles or 90 minutes; Run 5 miles or 60 minutes. I have another athlete that is in the Houston area starting a 16-week plan for Galveston if you are interested in being coached or just want to see if your schedules might match up for training purposes. |

Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 December's over......are you where you were hoping to be? What are you plans for January? My December turned out okay, but I have not been to the pool in months and I'd like to be more consistent with the number of days I'm running every week. It's easy for me to blow things off when the weather is harsh. Swim: 0 Bike: 24h 35m 59s - 477.35 Mi Run: 17h 44m 03s - 118.91 Mi My goals for January are to start back to the pool at least once a week and consistently run 6 days a week. Anyone else want to go on record? |

Member 560 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Coming to this IMTX from Northern Utah and had planned on using Tribike Tansport to get my bike there. Unfortunately, they are only offering their Pack and Ship option from here. It is $400 and I would still be responsible for getting the bike disassembled and packed, then put back together once it came back to me. They would handle everything in between. I am lucky to be able to change a tire, so the aspect of taking it apart/putting it back together and getting it packed is somewhat daunting. I would have to pay my LBS $100 each way (to pack if for me then put it back together). That means $600 to get my bike to Houston. OUCH! What would you guys do in this situation? Not sure what my best options are. It might be worth the $$ not to have to worry about it down there, but if I take it on the plane with me, I then have to get it back together down there, and stress about it. Ideas please! Is it worth it to have TBT do it to avoid the hassle of carrying it with me on the plane and then taking it apart and putting it back together myself? |

Does your LBS rent bike boxes that can be brought on a plane. If they don't maybe they will let you post an advertisement for one to use from its customers. I have a All3sports double bike box, they also have a single one. It's really easy to disassemble, basically remove the wheels and perhaps the handlebars (just unbolt at stem) and dangle them, but secure them to frame during transit. I flew with mine literally across the country, it's not a big deal. Plus, you can put things, such as wetsuits, bike pump, etc. in there. This may save you $$ on checked bags. Of course, if you're flying Southwest, the bike is cheaper to ship and you also get 2 free bags. If you stress about unpacking it, there are bike mechanics on site at IMTX and I'm sure you could ask for their help. It's really easy w a good bike box, not much of a disassembly/assembly process. I just want to hit 90-95% of my planned workouts. I'd also like it to warm up a bit so I can ride outside. |

Member 560 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 This might be a good option for me. I was looking at the details in the TBT Pack and Ship and they would need to have my bike almost 3 weeks before the race, which means I wouldn't have it for my final long ride, or any of the taper rides. What a pain in the arse! I have enough cycling friends, and enough time between now and the race, that I am going to look into learning how to assemble/disassemble it between now and then, as well as renting a bike box. |

Extreme Veteran 479 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 I don't know how you got in that bike time around here with the crappy weather we've been having (good job). My bike plan fell apart in December with the bad weather, Christmas running around, and a cold that came on the last week. December Bike: 157.12 mi / 7hrs 14 min 25 sec (prior 2 months were 400+ miles) Run: 85.0 mi / 11 hrs 20 min 24 sec Swim 59,700 yds / 19 hr 48 min January plan is to get my bike volume back up close to 400 miles, 130 miles running, 56,000 yds swim. I'm pretty much on track with my overall plan. |

I am handling the volume well, feeling great, no injuries, and have missed very few work outs. Here are my December totals. Not that impressive, but we were out of town for Christmas so it was just running that week. S - 3600 meters B - 79 R - 57 I will double all of that in just the first 10 day period of January! |

My knee's been feeling a little achy and hopefully my dedicated commitment to stretch, roll and recovery will keep me healthy. Been a tad cold here in N. FL as well. Dec #'s: Swim: 10h 40m 50s - 32150 Yd Bike: 17h 42m 19s - 324.9 Mi Run: 14h 08m - 92.41 Mi Happy Training everyone, Tom |

Extreme Veteran 660 Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 What are your long runs looking like right now (i.e. how much distance). I'm coming back from an injury, so I am only at 5-6 miles. My official training schedule started this week and saw that the first two long runs are 11 and 13 miles. Yikes!!! |

I'm coming back from an injury, so I am only at 5-6 miles. My official training schedule started this week and saw that the first two long runs are 11 and 13 miles. Yikes!!! I've done a few 90' runs (close to 11) at easy pace. I too am nursing some slight knee pain and want to train smart and make sure it's okay. The next two weeks my long runs are about 1:15 or so and am running a half marathon race in early Feb. In your situation, that seems like a big jump from 5-6 to 11 and 13. I would make sure your base/volume is where it should be before you start going with that type of mileage. Perhaps dial it down a few miles on each long run until you make sure you're injury has passed. Usually a big factor in running injuries are result of too much too soon. Yes, I'm guilty! Just my .02.
