Master 2629 brummie land | Subject: RE: Clydesdales/Athenas Tri-N 4 Weightloss Group - OPEN Originally posted by Gobie Here's a question for you guys. I am planning on trying to take swimming lessons over the winter. I can swim, but not very well. What skills would you recommend I ask the instructor to teach me? Breathing for sure. But are there are other skills? Different strokes? Right now, when swim across the pool, it's kind of like a sustained drowning that's occasionally interrupted by a wall
hey gobie i am melting too so feel your pain (yes it can get hot in england!!!!!) as for swimming: i'd get the coach to work on body position in the water so the breathing comes more naturally and the sustained drowning ends! if you are flatter in the water everything works better and you even have to kick less to stay afloat, which is therefore less knackering, and the sustained drowning ends! IF you are eventually going for open water swimming and have improved your stroke, as the coach to teach you some sighting techniques; this will probably involve a bottle on the pool side. but tbh i'd work on the ending sustained drowning for now
good luck and enjoy! |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Clydesdales/Athenas Tri-N 4 Weightloss Group - OPEN Down to 270.0 this week. Diet isn't the best, and I'm slowly increasing my bike and walk distances. I'm also doing light bodyweight exercises and my 2 youngest (girls 9 & 6) join in. Right now everything is going to plan since I have no plans for any events until next year. So... for this week, keep building walk & bike distances, increase workout exercise regimen, and keep an eye on diet. |

I am still trying to get it all together from my doctor snafu. 7 months of the wrong meds (serum) have kicked my tail. I keep starting over and it gets old. But then, there really isn't much of an alternative, is there? |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Clydesdales/Athenas Tri-N 4 Weightloss Group - OPEN Well... life kicked me in the nuts again. My mom's finally settled down and seeking care (health related). Over the last few months we started with degenerative rheumatoid arthritis, then threw a little COPD and emphysema into the mix. Last weekend, we went to her place (she's in OK, I'm in Memphis) for a needle biopsy of a tumor in her lung (high risk location), aaaaaaaaand... Cancer. So, she has a PET scan scheduled and of course they have to figure out if it's operable... If any of you remember my original post (2014?), I made mention of the 7 calcified tumors in my own lungs and the hullabaloo that caused since I've never smoked a cigarette (and only taken 1 bong hit) in my life. No matter how vehement her denials may be... I've seen this coming. I want a new bike, but I still need to get off my arse again and get back to work. Yeah, no segue. I have set goals. Memphis in May sprint, and Mighty Mite sprint 2019. I have times to beat. |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Clydesdales/Athenas Tri-N 4 Weightloss Group - OPEN Thanks Robin I'm starting to think we've been abandoned again, lol!! I've updated my log for the week. I'm working on more time on the bike (even if it's the exercycle with the torture saddle). I'm also starting to walk during lunch for 2 reasons: 1) If I can train during lunch, that frees up time in the evening. 2) I get an hour lunch. I don't need/want/etc an hour. So, if I can head out for about 30 mins (Tues & Thurs), I can not only increase distance, but train tired. Not a true brick, but definitely in the same vein. |

that's a really good way to get some extra exercise in - well done! i'm just getting back into the swing of things so riding has restarted and the past two days i've done a cheeky extra 3 miles on my road bike after i get home from work on my hybrid - it's been fun! food wise i am just getting my head back in the game but even daring to weight myself yet

Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: Clydesdales/Athenas Tri-N 4 Weightloss Group - OPEN I may look into that. I have a TRX at home and need to start using it again. It is good because you can increase the intensity pretty much infinitely. Guess what I did last weekend? I did a triathlon. A local sprint that is rated as fairly hard. I was near the last, but not the very last. With my lack of training, I am pretty proud of myself.

If ya'll don't know, the "normal" range is from 4.0-6.0. Had my check-up today and... 6.2. MASSIVE drop. Talk about incentive to stick with it, lol!! |

yeh i am a bit weird like that! it might be an over the pond thing No training for me the last 4 days. I live in a 200 + year old house. I am painting the front porch. That involves caulking, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. It is bead board and old so it sucks up the paint. 2 more days and I''ll be done. (of course I could only paint 3 - 5 hours a day before I seize up, so it is gonna take a while). |
