Good luck Mark!  You're going to do great and kudos to your wife, that is really quick fitness post childbirth!

Janet, that sucks but hopefully it is not a stress fracture.  Is it a running injury?  On the glass is half full side, though, it sounds like a great opportunity to increase your cycling strength and fitness!  Keep us up to date on the bone scan findings.

Suzy--your island paradise vacation is coming to an end, enjoy the last few days of your trip.

Trevor, thanks for showing me how to use the red font, i love it!

I ran 5 miles on my normal lake course this morning and it felt wonderful.  I got rained upon but it just made it a little more of an adventure for me and Ripley

I will be starting my 20 week HIM training program at the beginning of March, so I'm a little scattered right now with my workouts.  I'm hoping to keep the running at 3x a week, but keep the long run at 6,8,10 then back to 6 again.  My swim sched. is MWF.  I know I need lots of cycling!!! So if the rain keeps up, I'll be spending lots of time on my trainer.

 Have a great weekend everyone.

Well my workouts this past week haven't been the greatest but I did have a wonderful visit with my sister. While she was here I booked flights for my wife and I to go to Cuba in May for her son's weding.

Now it back to proper training (as soon as I can shake this cold. I can hardly run at all as I start to cough right away), education and job searching.

I guess that my 'off season' is officially over now!  I am registered for 2 races (of my hopeful 8 or 9).

Oddly enough I found out about a local TT event near my home ~ 1.5 hours away.  28k TT event.  This will be my first race of the season and my first TT event ever.  I am a bit nervous about it so I had to just register and HTFU.  It's March 29, so about 50 days away.

I've been hitting the Spinervals DVD's on my trainer lately, so completion isn't my concern... a good finish time is my concern.  I knew better than to watch the Tour of California Prologue today.

I also got reg'd for my first sprint tri at the end of May.  That was my first ever tri (last year), so it will be good for me.  It's also at the same park where I proposed to my now wife.  Hmm.

Has anyone else started registering for races yet?

So I heard this rumor about Steve's group -- If you join it, you automatically gain 10% additional muscle, and your personal best in the Iron goes down by 2 hours. :) If that's the case, sign me up!

Congrats on starting to pull together your schedule.  May is right around the corner!

My focus is really on my Spring marathon now and that won't change until late April.  I am registered for most all of my multisport events.  Might throw another Sprint/Olympic or Duathlon in there somewhere:

1. Marathon in Boston on April 20th
2. First Olympic in Green Bay WI on June 7th
3. Sprint in Phillip's WI July 11th
4. First Half IM in Lake Geneva WI September 12th

I'm a little worried about not focusing on bricks until May, but hey that's life!

The only race I have registered for right now is the HIM I am doing in Sept. I plan at least 1 olympic (probably in June as it is held here in  my home town.) and maybe one other. These darn things cost too much to be able to get all the equipment I want and to race in a lot of races this year. I don't own a wetsuit so I rent one when needed which adds to the cost also.

Gee, I hadn't heard that rumor when I signed up to be part of the group.  So far, I haven't gained 10% more muscle (thankfully!) or even done an IM, but I still like it here.  Knowing this is a possibility, I will be looking for much faster times in all my races this year.

Should I welcome you aboard? or are you lurking?

Suzy

question bike rental

I am signed up to do a sprint in Arizona ( I live in texas). I have decided to rent a bike when I get to scottsdale cause it is cheaper than shipping/ taking my bike on the plane etc. Also this is not one of my "A" races.

I have found a bike shop that is set up to rent, is there anything you all recommend that I do prior to the race besides riding some on the bike, and getting the shop to do the best they can to fit it?

Should I take my pedals and shoes/cleats.

thanks
Beth Paul

Just wanted to let you folks know that I am ALIVE.  I was out of pocket...working a couple days out of town last week, and then when I got home, my wife told me she had left my laptop at her work, so I have been computerless for the last couple of days.  I cranked up one of my old ones to check up today.

Looks like everyone is doing well!  I'll be back.

And Beth I am renting a bike for my 1st Tri as it is a flyaway one......I was told they have pedals that match my clips so we are golden! I am getting the bike the day before so I'll make sure its fit reasonably proper before I go out.

hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around lately.  Work has sucked and I have been running around looking at a potential house to purchase.  This has got to be one of the most stressful moments I can remember.  I haven't even signed up for any races because I need to figure out how much disposable income I will have.

Anyways, I'm still training hard and it is helping with the stress of it all.....

Hey everyone!  I made it through the half mary yesterday and I am super proud of my wife as well.  The course was as tough as I thought it would be but I stuck to my plan of going out conservative and finished strong (mile 12 was a 6:36 pace).  My final time was 1:33.  I will post a race report today but I wanted to thank everyone for their support.

That isn't Ben is it?  I won't believe it until there are 2 postings to confirm it Cool   As a brief introduction to the rest of the group, Ben was with our mentor progam last year and fadded away for a while.   He gives Rob a run for his money in the smart a** category so things should get exciting and very entertaining.  I hope you're back to stay Ben, I missed you.

Mark, fantastic job both you and your wife.  The course sounded like a killer and obviously you crushed it.  Not that I expected any different. You are great.

I hope everyone has a great training week.

WOW, you are rip snorting fast!  I can't imagine running a 6:36 pace.  Congratulations to both you and your wife.  I really like the fact you ran back to the car to get the camera to catcn your wife.  And even got a little choked up over seeing her work so hard.  What a guy!  What's next?

Great Race Mark. Really awesome time.

Good to hear from you Ben. Hope you are going to be around for awhile. Someone needs to deal with Tracy.

Steve: I'm still trying to figure out how to get a pick of the new aero bars onto the website. My camera takes a picture with too many MB so the site won't accept it. I'm gogin to see if I can find the unit on a website somewhere.

OK, gang.... now for some bad news.  I received a call from my manager a little while ago and he was giving me the "heads up" that I am more than likely going be be laid off very soon.  I am sooooo stressed out now and my wife is a full time mother so the pressure is on.  This is not a complete surprise since I have been slow at work for a while (I am a corporate technical recruiter for Oracle) but it doesn't make it any easier.  Anyway, please keep me in mind if you hear of any technical recruiting opportunities (I realize that is not very likely but had to mention it).

Another option is uploading them throug Picasa and resizing them through their software.  That is what I do to get them on the site.
