Good evening MGers. It is very interesting how much you can learn about people on a message board. I think I'm starting to get familiar with everyone, well those of you posting.

Anyway, I need to get some tri bars for my road bike. Does anyone have any recomendations? I am on a 58" Specialized Secture Sport and I am 6'3"; not sure if this will help.

I will be heading to the bike shop this weekend, but I am clueless as to what to look for.

DougRob - 2011-01-05 12:37 PM We are on page 47 of the new Swbkrun MG and there has been no rush to post Bike P0rn! Come on peeps, post those pics!

I purchased a 2010 Specialized Tarmac Elite at the end of January last year. It was  sure a big jump from my 86/87 Raleigh with a 6spd cassette and downtube shift levers.

kt65 - 2011-01-05 5:06 PM Sometimes living on the West coast makes it hard to keep up with the MG.  My head is swimming and I haven't been in the pool in 2 whole weeks (yikes, that is probably not so good for a swimmer of my caliber).

So here goes, I will attempt to join in.

Doug is dying to see bike porn.  John just wants porn.  Does anyone understand what John is talking about?  3000, 9000, 11000?

Kelly is back swimming and has been persuaded to take lessons from a coach before she starts building distance.

Sam and Tony are headed off for Goofy medals and for some sun and fun with the kids at WDW.  Have fun, guys!

Tony either wore a very TIGHT suit to his Christmas party last year or a very LOOSE suit this year.  Pictures of the former would be nice to post, Sam.

Linda, how is it 7 degrees colder just 35 miles away???  I would need a ski mask running out there!  Or one of Suzy's under armour masks...that cold and I have asthma type breathing issues.  I am so excited to bike Tunitas with you!!!!  MLK day, here we come!

Erica, you have tons of time to get ready for an HIM in July if your half mary is in May...weren't we talking about this very thing with Sylvain?  But that was pages ago!!!  I guess the way to do it would to base build in all 3 disciplines now (as you are doing), and continue to bike and swim a few times a week while half marathon training and then it'll be HIM focus after that!  Maybe everyone already said that and I am just repeating...sorry!!!  Congrats on quitting your job!  Yay for being able to train and go to school on Ryan's income!!!

I love my Adidas running shorts, btw, I am not sure they still make the particular style I have (climba-lite)...I should look it up on ebay or something with the exact model.  I have two pair and they are my favorites (even this morning in 40F!)

Suzy, your question?  I think I have already been training for my A race (IMWI) since December but who knows, I am glad the marathon is between now and then, because it keeps me from getting too freaked out!!!  I meant excited.

Okay, off to do more eye exams and answer tons of questions as patiently and intelligently as possible.

I have some John Porn...

That is funny

the Mistress   I like the name. Sexy bike I will need to name my bike.

Do you like the ADAMO seat. I am considering one? I need something for my wide sit bones (ok Big AZZ)

I tried a few profile designs but they were way to narrow and uncomfortable. I can put 100km ride in on my stock Norco bike seat but have yet to find anything else I like.

I had my LBS put some Profile Designs T2+ on my bike. they are a clip on no problems with them and I ride a Specialized Tarmac Elite. I have had them since September of 2010.

I'm also curious about the adamo.  I've been using the stock Bontrager seat that I got with the bike last year and it sucks.  Leaning out over my bars just hurts.

I love your avatar!!!  Hopefully you can try some out at the store, and get a feel for if you prefer the s type aerobars or the more flat ones, your wrists may prefer one over the other.  i like the way the flatter ones look, but alas, when i tried out flatter bars, my wrists really felt uncomfortable.  I think some are more adjustable (in terms of width and length) than others?

Have fun!

"high beams"?  I like it.  That's a new one for me - very educational thread.

Grandkids are visiting, so I'm doing my best just to squeeze in enough computer time to keep up with the reading.

No races for me until I do a 10 mile run at the end of April.   I'm thinking my A race will be the near-HIM I have planned for mid-Sept so my actual plan won't start until 20 weeks out from there.   I'm in a slow, steady build phase until then.

And...that photo of John is scary.

yeah, my second half iron.  came out of the water and the strippers were about 10 yards from the waters edge.  just a really bad place for them.  so i skipped them and ran to transition ripping my suit off as i went.  finally got it off, looked up and there were the race photographers.  gotta pose, right!

a guy in the mg's two years ago(reuben) made that and sent it to me.  yeah dan, scary!

SoccerGK - 2011-01-05 12:23 PM Solid workout clothing so far!  Being a soccer player, I always swore by Adidas because it was really the only good soccer brand growing up.  Then when I got to college, I randomly decided to order a pair of Nike cleats, and they were the best things ever!  I slowly made the transition.  Now, I'm a Nike girl, totally.  It's just about all I'll buy.  I just bought a Nike Element running hoodie, and it honestly makes me so happy just to put it on because I know I won't be cold during my runs!  But I'm also obsessed with all my workout clothing, so it's impossible for me to pick a single favorite item.

Good news, too!  I GOT A SWEET INTERNSHIP FOR THIS SEMESTER!  I'll be working for a professor at our school who is also an athlete agent, which is my dream job!  Now I'm itching to get out of this darn job, but I'm stuck 'til the 28th.

Suzy - Thanks for letting me know that Racine only goes around the zoo!  That was my driving force (I'm an animal person to a fault).  So that makes me feel better about DC.

Does any Wisconsin-ite here know of a good swim coach in the Milwaukee area?  I may need some outside help in getting up to 1.2 miles for July!

Save me going back 40 pages.....what are you doing in school?   My eldest is a sports management major.  Her first internship was the 2010 Olympics, and she's now got a gig with Reebok.  She graduates in May.

I'm in law school at Marquette University right now.  I chose Marquette because it has one of the best, if not the best, sports law programs in the nation, and it's only one of 2-3 law schools you can get a Sports Law Certificate from.  I just love working in sports.  It's an awesome feeling!

I also did my undergrad in Sports Management, along with a Marketing degree to give me some more appeal to law schools.

Where is your daughter going to school?  And what does she want to do with her degree?  Those are some pretty awesome internships she's got!  I worked for a few sports teams in college (semi-pro, pro, and high school), and I'm hoping to work for a big retail company's legal department in the fall (I don't like to name names or talk too much about it because I don't want to curse myself). *crosses fingers*  I don't graduate 'til May 2012 though, so I've got lots of time in school still.  Ick.

She'll graduate from Universty of the Pacific in May, then planning on grad school at Cal State Long Beach.  Law school was on her agenda, but something changed in the last few months.  Maybe it was homework(!?!)  final plans include Media Relations or Athlete Representation.  We'll see!  She's overcome a lot, was a pretty talented high school athlete and fought through (and continues to deal with) a diagnosis of Crohn's Disease, and really wants to stay active in athletics.  We're proud of her - can't wait to see what the future brings.

Good choice on going to grad school!  I had a LOT of people telling me not to, but a lot of players' associations are changing their rules to say that their representation MUST have a postgraduate degree.

If she's interested in being an agent, tell her to check out "The Business of Sports Agents," a book by Shropshire.  Really a valuable read, and it taught me a lot!  Best of luck to her!

When I was in law school the "new" commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, was one of my professors for Sports Law. There is a lot of overlap with IP law. Mostly copyright and trademark. Oh yeah, if you remember Marion Jones, I wrote the patent for the Nike running suit she wore and debuted at the Prefontain games.

Now THAT is just cool!

I'll be taking some classes this semester from Bud Selig.  He's a Milwaukee guy, so our law school gets to see a lot of him.

You might post the swim coach question in the Wisconsin forum.  You will get plenty of opinions and you might be surprised to hear of one in West Bend, Menominee Falls or Brown Deer at the Y.

You might post the swim coach question in the Wisconsin forum.  You will get plenty of opinions and you might be surprised to hear of one in West Bend, Menominee Falls or Brown Deer at the Y.

X2... I know that the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer is probably the best pool in the state.  Lots of programs.  Swimming isn't really an issue for me, so I have no opinions.  But somebody in the WI forum will be able to hook you up with some great options.
