Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Mother's Day to all the fellow Mom's and send Mother's Day wishes to all of your spouses for all they do in living with your habit! Scott replaced my broken "yurbud's" with an upgrade to the Ironman version. I can't wait to go for a run tonight and try them out. Yesterday I worked the shot put area at the track meet. Although the workout won't count, running the men's shot from the field back for an hour during warm-up was no day in the park. I called fouls and measured the women's, but I worked the field in the men's. I wish I have my Garmin and HR strap on the past 2 days!! Charlotte- Thought's, prayers are with you today and everyday. I understand some of what you are going though. Through my own troubles as a teen and my Mother's personal battle with depression and bipolar disorder, I take to heart all of your words. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ran this morning almost 12 miles at below MAF effort but yielded a good pace, consistency is starting to pay off. Kept a high turnover and focused on run economy. Averaged 8:10/mile @138BPM - Gabe: S 6 / B 7 / R 8 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 21 ; 25:25'02" Edited by ernestov 2012-05-13 11:50 AM |

![]() We have an awesome mentoring group. Each of your words of encouragement, sharing and prayers mean so much to me. Thank you.Chris, great job on race this a.m. Ouch!!I completed first tri of the season 3 minutes faster than same tri last year despite inconsistencies. Last year I was 1st in my age group - 50 -54; this year 55-59 I was fourth even though I was faster than 3rd male in 55-59 age group. The 55-59 women who came in top 3 were rocking!!! |

I second what Ernesto said above. I know The Challenge has gotten me out of bed more than once this month to meet a workout appointment. If we go back over all the challenges our Merry Band of Brothers have participated in, I couldn't count how many times it got me to workout when I otherwise wouldn't have. Thank you to the group for motivating me like you do! However, I am looking forward to tomorrow - a welcomed rest day! There is a tremendous correlation to my improvements and my participation in Ernesto's group - Thanks Ernesto! Edited by dangremond 2012-05-13 7:17 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You're welcome Mitch. Nice run this morning, talk about someone that improved, huh? I don't think you could have ran an 8:07 pace for 12 miles in a race a year and change ago, kudos for consistency! @everybody: ask questions, comment on situations, talk about triathlon funny stories, etc. I don't want us to cease all activities once the challenge is over at the end of May. ASK! mostly if you're new to this, the advice is free and the collective experience of this group is phenomenal. We have guys like Scott, who runs 6 minute miles on race day, Joe, incredibly fit all around, Gabe, incredibly disciplined and hard working and one fit son of a gun, Chris, awesome runner and great strategist, Mitch, growing fitness by leaps and bounds, etc. Keep this being more than just a scoreboard! Let's keep it fun! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here's my question for the day: What can you do about fighting off the feeling of irritability and the bad mood that sets in when you have a rest day, either planned or unplanned. I was really hoping to get in a longer run today, but I crashed hard yesterday on the mountain bike and my hip/a** are super sore today, and life just kind of got in the way as well, so I did absolutely nothing today and felt terrible about it.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone! Another week comes to a close. Got a run in but missed the bike/swim. Actually missed a lot of workouts this week! - Gabe: S 6 / B 7 / R 8 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 21 ; 25:25'02" Hope the mothers here all had a good day. My daughter made me a new penguin for the igloo she made years ago - our puppy at the original. Very cute!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-05-13 8:47 PM I don't think I can help you, my wife says that I'm unbearable when I don't workout, especially if I haven't done so for three or four days. I'm pretty sure this is common to most in the group, right? Here's my question for the day: What can you do about fighting off the feeling of irritability and the bad mood that sets in when you have a rest day, either planned or unplanned. I was really hoping to get in a longer run today, but I crashed hard yesterday on the mountain bike and my hip/a** are super sore today, and life just kind of got in the way as well, so I did absolutely nothing today and felt terrible about it.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Mother's Day to all the cool tri-moms on this group! Ernesto, I second Mitch's comments regarding the significant improvements we've achieved thanks to your dedication as a mentor and friend along with the very important support from all of the group members! I really could not imagine keeping up with most of the long workouts required for my IM training, especially during certain tough days, had it not been for the motivation from this group along with the monthly challenges. So thanks Ernesto and to the group for that! Today a very nice rest day and running errands to wrap things up for my trip to Texas on Tuesday. - Gabe: S 6 / B 7 / R 8 / Rest Days 2 ; Total = 21 ; 25:25'02" |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, question for most of you as you are coming out of the off season as I head into it.? What do you do to keep motivated and do you follow a plan? I don't want to lose to much of what i have built up in fitness over winter. My main gaol is to learn to swim but i want to keep riding and running. Is there a good program to follow?? I did download a BT one but don't like it. My goal for next summer is a 70.3 in January (new one here) and maybe the busso 70.3 again. may be a handful of sprints in there as well. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I feel a lot better now. My wife has been telling me that I am a grumpy person on my off days. I just thought she was wanting to get me out of the house. lol I do get very irritable on my rest days. I found that it helps to get outside and play with the kids or pull a lot of weeds. Even that does not always help. I would be interested to hear if anyone has found other ways to beat the off day slump. Thank you for asking the question. This is a good topic and as Ernesto said, one that I bet everyone deals with. |
