Finished my Race.   It was more of a mental/training day for me than a bona fide race.  RR will come up soon, but here's just a summary.

Goals:

Swim - just do it and finish. Pace yourself a bit.  - Check! I was kicked HARD in my biceps (got a nice bruise to boot!) because I was swimming right behind a lady that was doing hard breaststrokes. yowch.  Water was very murky.

Bike - Pace yourself, and go a little easy on the bike in order to leave it on the run - CHECK! Although I seriously wanted to push it hard, I dialed back a little bit just to see how I do on the run, and how I feel on the run. Best part - used Aerobars 90% of the time, and that was extremely helpful with lowering my zones. It just felt much easier to do. I STILL cannot believe how much MORE comfortable I am.

Run - Told myself to RUN THE ENTIRE freakin' 5K - CHECK! That was the biggest goal of the day.  Other races, I seem to go too hard on the bike, and then have to walk a little too "frequent" on the run.  Well, I RAN the entire thing (except that tiny few steps at the aid station because I was breathing in my water, and had to kind of "snot rocket" it out.  Even on the steep hills, I RAN, and had a small PR to boot. Passed quite a few guys, which I was kind of shocked...so many people walked up that hill. It was steep, I just jogged it instead of walking/running, and I felt pretty good.   Once I start adding more constructed run workouts ( THANK YOU SCOTT!!!), and more frequent bricks, I *should* get better at my Triathlon runs.

Can I say this again? I *love* my aerobars!

Viyoung - 2012-06-03 6:29 PM Hi guys,Had a great time this weekend on the eastern shore of MD this weekend.Placed 100 out of 118 overall. Not impressive when you look at it that way, but i improved on my individual performance from last year, so i'm pleased. This is only the second tri i've ever done, so i'm just glad that i finished. Will post a link to my race report when i figure out how to.

Congrats Vivian!  Glad you saw improvement and had a great time!  Looking forward to reading race report.  Go to the top and click race logs and then next to the race click the edit button.  When you are done, click save and make sure to answer yes to making it public.

IceManScott - 2012-06-02 10:01 PM Awesome day with friends at Tri Sharks Classic. Sprint went well. 5th in age group. 1:21, down 3:30 from the same course last year.  21 mph plus on the bike in strong winds. Swim was good and fun, but chilly. The run was awesome. Very fast for me.  I love to race!   I attribute a lot of the improvement to lean eating on paleo and strength training with kettlebells with Chris and naturally great bike coaching and overall training plan with Stan Watkins. Swim was better with help from Kevin McCarthy.

Great race Ice and congrats on the time improvement!  That is a big number to lower your time on a sprint!!  You must have some fast racers in your AG!

Wesley12 - 2012-06-04 12:00 AM Getting my training started again.  After Florida 70.3, I spent another week on vacation with my family.  Had a great time but put on a few pounds.  Now to drop those pounds and get to work on my run.

Have fun with the training Wesley!

Made the trip up to western Wisconsin for the week.  With the work project we are implementing here it is probably beneficial that I am limited to my activities.  Going to be a week of long days.

Glad to hear all the positive results from the weekend races and rides!  Way to go gang!

Nice job DJ!!! WAY TO GO!!!!

btw DJ...the wife and I are leaving Saturday to head out your way for a few days.  I don't know if your a Lifetime Fitness member but I plan on hitting a spin class and maybe doing a swim there one of the days I'm there.

Weather was great here in Chicagoland this weekend.  The extra volume had me tired coming into the weekend, but something clicked!  Long run started out rough on Saturday, but ended it strong.  My shoulder was a bit sore (slept on it wrong) and my allergies bad (excuses! ) so I bagged my swim that day.  Sunday's long bike was great!  35 miles on my own I held back a little to have some left for the group ride.  Did another 35 with the group.  Our group was fun, we really diced it up!  It was just plain fun!   Hooked up with another triathlete from the group to do a short run afterwards.  Weather was incredible!  Topped it off by going out to breakfast with the wife for a steak and egg omlette and pancakes!!! mmmmmmmmmm nom nom nom!!! Tongue out

Hey all, glad to read all the positive reports/results.  I did the HalfRev yesterday.  I posted a RR, but hear's the short version - The hardest fun I've ever had. 6:39 puts me at the back of this pack, but I'm good with that.  A year ago, I was a whole different person and I know what I need to work on the be faster.  This sport is great!

Hi All - survived the first tri of the season yesterday!.  I spent the majority of the morning as a volunteer and swim deck runner.  so I was on my feet most of the day til my start time at 2pm (not good for foot). However,  I am pleased with the race results (barely squeeked in to top 1/3 of women) - didn't have any real goals as I didn't taper and my longest run since September was only 2.75 miles.  I will post a RR report a little later today.

This made me think of yesterday's tri.  On the bike portion, the volunteers were all from a Harley bike club. Thank you biker dudes!!!!  Your surly looks were appreciated!

Vivian - Nice job on your improved performance!!

Scott - Awesome job on the huge improvement!!!

Brian - No, I'm not a Lifetime fitness member.  There is a VERY nice Lifetime Fitness Gym in Red Rock.  You can swim laps outside! Enjoy Vegas!

Robin - Kudos to you for volunteering then racing the next day! If I did that when I volunteered for Leadman...I would have been the last few people with all the aches in my body!

Another training week...get 'em done!

So I have known for awhile, but finally crossed the HIM I was planning on in October off the list.  With our house unsold it just isn't financially feasible.  Good news though - I plan to add a spring HIM in California to next years races!  Hubby is 100% behind me on this one as we will make a vacation out of it! Help me pick one!  HITS has one is April in Napa that sounds intriguing, but haven't heard anything about this series and Wildflower sounds cool but a hard course.  Thoughts?

How about Barb's Race? I'm assuming that you're not set on a WTC race, I've heard good things about that race, and it uses the same course as Vineman, but cheaper. :-)  I think it happens in June or July, I'm not sure.

I haven't done any HITS race, so I can't comment on them.   Good luck on your search!

I heard someone talking about that race the other day - will have to look into it as it will depend on the date - Thanks!
