Dave - takin care of bidness! I'm on board for the voting scheme. For music playlist sharing - definitely spotify. Free account and you can share playlists with friends or the public.

Workouts - had an ok swim workout last night, 700yds. The y has been closed so much when I would normally swim with all the damn snowstorms... This morning had my hour of strength/endurance and I'm off to 1:15 of hot yoga now. Currently at 6/? About to be 7.

Do we have a challenge for this upcoming week? Maybe we should do a fruit and veggie challenge 15 different kinds in a week? In addition to a workout one.

I'm going to sign up for spotify- love the music idea- but I'll admit I love Country ;-). Maybe if I put up songs it will encourage the non country fans to run faster so they can turn it off!

I'm down with the voting for shirts too.

Morning All! Happy Valentines' Day!

Sorry for not posting yesterday--got behind at work and then when I went to take the pup for a run late in the afternoon my neighbor stopped me and told me there was a tragedy in the neighborhood Thursday. Their dog killed another neighbor's dog (all dogs except ours runs free) in a fight. After that, I couldn't bring myself to do the run, so I just walked my pup a couple of miles and enjoyed letting her sniff and pee as much as she wanted. These two neighbors have a history of fighting over/about dogs and I can see this escalating. The neighbor whose dog was killed called the sheriff already.

Just finished up 58/400 with two hour spin class. This week was brutal. I have to ask the group, what is the purpose of "jumps" (i.e. alternating standing/sitting on about 5sec)? I thought it dumb (by tiring) and couldn't really figure out a reason that I might need to do that on an actual bike. Then again, I've only been cycling for two years, so maybe there are things I don't know.

I'm traveling this week, so it will be light on the workouts and light on the posts. Probably time for a recovery week anyway, there have been a lot of quality workouts in 2015 so far.

Happy Training Everyone!!!

Logged workouts 7 (25 minutes easy spin on the trainer) and 8 (15 minute recovery pace run) for the week. Pleased with the work load this week considering I was sick for a day and a half.

Spent half the morning screwing with my watch that's apparently lost it's freaking mind, so Monday morning will involve a call to Garmin, which is never a pleasant experience. I love technology, but when it goes cheeky it makes me nuts.

Still hunting for a bike, but the used market for tri bikes for someone 6'4" is thin. I found a couple of good craigslist deals, but was a little late. Was second in line for both of them and the first person grabbed the bike on both occasions.

I've tried my fitness pal before, but struggle because 95% of our meals are cooked at home from fresh ingredients so it's a pain to log a meal and the accuracy is probably no where close so I stopped using it. Would gladly pick it back up if someone has a simple work around.

On the bear front I had a Duvel Belgian Strong Pale Ale last night and it was pretty great. Definitely worth a try!

Hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day and weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day!
4/? Yesterday - actually with PT it would be 5/?. Got a 2000 yard swim in - part with legs but most without.
No beer last night but looooots of wine at a Calcutta. Perhaps too much. ??

I strive for 90% accuracy when using home-cooked meals - x ounces of chicken, a cup of rice, some vegetables. MFP also lets you put in the raw ingredients as a recipe, and then you can select that recipie for a meal.

Good luck on the bike search as well.

Check in: The planets aligned and I had an afternoon with some time. Given the fact that the cold might cramp my outside running tomorrow I decided to kick it up a notch today. This is my first time doing a Sprint "dry" run.

800 Meters - 20 minutes
12 mile stationary bike - 1 hour 7 mins 44 secs
3.1 Mile Run - 35 mins

Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

That gives me 7/? for the week. I even met the Gretchen challenge since I actually did a swim this week. It's been two weeks due to the snow getting in the way.

DQ, I love the BDAS Spotify playlist idea.

Moonrocket: 15 fruits and veggies in a week? Wow, that one is interesting. I think I can do that one though. Let me know if that's the plan.

Its really hard for me to keep up with all the posts on here!

That brewing stuff... Nice score!
I would sell all of those glass carboys for a profit, and buy two plastic big mouth bubblers. I hate glass. Heavy, breakable and pita to clean.

All grain brewing requires additional equipment ($$$). You should give extract another try. I have brewed some REALLY good extract beer.

Good job everyone! Lots of inspiring workouts going on!

Greetings...newbie Anne here. I love reading these posts....both beer/brewing and training. This morningbi started the day with 900m /30 min swim and 35 min on spin bike at mid tension 90rpm. Planned on long run today, but mother nature planned otherwise. I will head to gym and split my time between indoor track and dreadmill...9miles is scheduled.

I saw something about a challenge for the week. Was anyhting decided?

Cheers.

Anne - I am thrilled you are liking things in the BDAS! How's your day-long triathlon go?

I think we should take Kate up on her Fruit/Veggie challenge, which was to consume 15 DIFFERENT fruits and veggies next week. My first thought was - wow 15 different kind is a lot but it occurred to me that all I need to do is to try 1 different fruit and veggie each day, and I'll have it in the bag. Let's do this!

Jeremy - Sorry to hear about the problems with your watch! What kind do you have?

I think more bikes will become available once spring comes around. Right now - people are enjoying the off season. But in a month or two - I would imagine that more used bikes will be making their way to craigslist. Be sure to check out your local bike shop - some have consignment sales - like my LBS - as a way of getting people to buy new bikes. Good luck finding a good one!

The Duvel is a world class beer! Yum!

Happy valentines day all! Just got back home, in another snowstorm mind you, from a little date dinner while the y had a valentines party for the kids. No beer but a martini and a small glass of champagne did just fine.

Yoga was tough again today but I got through. 7 for the week so far - tomorrow depends on the storm.

Just wanted to throw a +1 on the LBS consignment sales - that's how I got my roadie last year and a good deal on it compared to market on used bikes around here.

Bike Shirt Vote - Update:

Tomorrow night, I'm going to re-post the 7 or 8 designs that have already been posted to the forum. If you have another idea you would like to add/propose - please post it by Monday. Be sure to add a title to the pic since I don't think the pictures will repost even if you click on the reply button.

Next Steps:

Stage 2 - Monday-Wednesday: Take a look at the various designs. If you like one - just least a post saying so. Everyone gets to vote for 2 and we will narrow it down to 3 finalists .

Stage 3 - Then from Thursday - Sunday, we vote a second time - 1 vote each - to pick the winner. Once we have a winner - we can tweak it a bit and then we will chose a company to make the shirts and go from there. How does that sound?

I Got a job teaching as an adjunct Prof. at a local university on Friday. This will hopefully get my foot in the door with higher ed. I am leaving public teaching this year after 8 years. As Neil Young said "It's better to burn out than to fade away..."

Training has been nil.

3 runs this week. Getting back on that horse.

Topic of the week: music

Favorite workout music- I usually just have the mp3 player on shuffle, but when I do listen to specific, get-your-heart-pumping motivation I have to go with Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Black Flag, etc., and believe it or not after the aforementioned, dancehall Reggae, specifically Buju Banton. Then a little John Denver and/or Sinatra for the cool down. I know, my musical tastes are a little schizophrenic.

DQ, Spotify would be perfect for that, and I would definitely love a new workout playlist.

Gretchen, I think for the jumps you are supposed to kep pedaling without straightening your knee so it basically is more of a challenge/isolates your legs more. Personally I don't really like them. The instructor I go to never explains them so most likely most people are not doing them correctly. That's how people get hurt.

This weather has completely zapped my motivation. All I want to do is curl up inside (it is currently 6 degrees outside but feels like -24...no joke). I have Some CLPs to catch up on...

Got my Sunday off to a blustery start this am with my first official training session! I've been swimming 3 times a week since January and added in biking and walk/jog intervals at the beginning of February but today is the first day following a specific tri plan.

Since outside is not an option, I headed to a friend's gym. I did: walk 4' run 1.5'-18 mins, .9 miles, then a short bike ride, 14' 2.8 miles. Not anything major, but I was definitely feeling the burn. 2/7 for the week.

This cold weather has me dreaming of hibernation, so I'm happy I managed to get my butt out of bed this morning. Having someone else expecting me really helps my accountability, and it's nice to laugh with a friend as well. I love the isolation of swimming but I'm finding it's nice to commiserate with someone else when the incline is killing me on the dreadmill.

I'm down for the fruit/veggie challenge! I'm at 3/15 for the week (assuming we start challenges on Sunday?) with a banana, bell peppers, and spinach.

Stay warm!!

OK - All the designs have been posted (or so I think - If I have missed one - please let me know or feel free to post it yourself) but if you've got some time to kill before Monday night - you can create your own design and post it to the forum.

Starting on Monday - please review the different designs and vote for your two favorites. On Thursday, we will take the next step and narrow it down to 1.

I'm getting really excited by the thought of a new bike shirt and I hope you are too!

Most importantly - a huge thank you to David/Snewo for all the work he has put into this project. I think the very least we could do is to give him a major discount on his shirt.

May the best design win!
