Yes, this group has been far too quiet.  Babs wins the prize for the 1000th post in our mentor group forum!  Cool

How is everyone doing with their workouts?  We meet with our coach on Thursday.  I have a lot of questions about the approach she is taking this year.  Less hours for now but who knows what is coming in June, July, and August.

Anyone have any suggestions on dealing with skin problems from chlorine?  I found a lotion at swimoutlet.com that you use before swimming, not sure if it works.  I like swimming but my skin does not like the chlorine.

lara13 - 2009-03-22 10:38 AM Congrats Terri on a long - long - confidence builder - of a run!! i ran a bit Saturday and it was gorgeous. unlike our mentally-challenged husbands who biked this morning. i'm doing my long run in a bit - wish we could've done together! headed to Emrys tomorrow for my aeros, fitting, and overall check-up. haven't had it looked at since i fell at spirit of racine. For some reason i feel that wasn't my last wipe-out. The conditions were slick that day sure - but i feel i have to fly sooo fast sometimes and not always in control. kind of a freaky realization. now add the aeros and i'm really in trouble. need to get outside and get comfortable i guess. hope the weekends were great! Pink-eye has visited out home...lovely.

Ha, that gave me a laugh.  They went at the right time.  Got pretty windy later, no?  Great job on your run too.  I have a two hour run coming this weekend.  Soccer on schedule?  If not, I think a bunch of us are going to run on Glacial Drumlin (saturday).

Pulled the trigger on a Garmin 305 today.  Got a great price.  If the HR strap doesn't work, I just won't use it and will switch back to wearing my Polar for HR.  Hmmmm, how geeky will that look, a monitor on each wrist!  Wink

Ugh, it is official--I have become a Tri Geek!

Sorry- Im sure me NOT having a computer at home is keeping me more quiet

As for the pool and skin.....what I do is right after I get out of the shower- before I towel off is, dump baby oil all over me.  Kind of let it absorb- then dry off.  It kind of sinks in and you dont end up so oily and slimey.   Worth a try!

Not to push our company, but we specialize in all natural skin care. I use our lotion after every swim. Seeing you are friend I can load you up a box and see what works!!!

Tracy i might be interested in some lotion - do you have a web site? how about shampoo for swimmers? ahh, what's the use....

had my fitting and bars installed at Emrys' yesterday. i was so giddy and pumped! The owner had me on the trainer for almost 2 hours tweaking things....i'm embarassed what he thinks of my former ride position. i can't wait to get outside!!! everything about my ride will be different.

need to go deal with my leaky roof - should be another nice chunk of $$ spent in the Szatmary household.

enjoy the day everyone!!

Here's a question for the house:

What supplements/shakes etc do people use (in terms of post-workout proteins etc)?

(It's been suggested that I should think about a protein drink (like the body-building types use?) because there's no way I'd be able to get enough sensibly through my diet (without huge disruption to everyone esle in the house!), but I don't know where to start - are the whey protein powders what people are talking about?)

Undecided

Tracy-

You definitely have a customer.  I need to do something, the itching is killing me.  Oh, wait, maybe I am actually allergic to swimming.  Wink

Let me know what I need to do!  I would love to give some of your products a try.

Thanks!

Receovery foods are awesome- but I find I dont really need them unless I do something long.... like 1.5 hour run or 2.5 bike.  The endurox R4 is OK.... a lot of people like it.  Chocolate milk is great.  Yogurt, cereal with milk.   I believe you want a 4 to 1 carb to protien ratio.

I have never needed a supplement even with IM training.  But I am a girl.   One of my traininig partners is 210 and 6 feet and he never needed anything either..... although he ate A LOT.   I think you can get plenty of calories in if you eat the right things.   Are you training for more then sprints?  I thought you were thinking of a mary?

For those of you who want to try some of our products out. Go to www.goodearthsoap.com. PM me what you want to try and your address. I would love to send you all a box of goodies. Lori, I think you need our garden balm. It is olive oil based and works wonders on dry, chapped skn. Also, our soap is very nice. We make a great lip balm too. Our lotion rocks. I use it every day.

Lara, I make a solid shampoo bar that works awesome, no bottles to recycle, all natural and great for your hair. I swim with a cap on because I am processed. I can't live without blonde hair, I digress.

Please don't be shy. I love to share our stuff. I think everyone should get off chemicals. Everyone. We even make an all natural bug spray that works 10xs better than any deet based spray. Good for children and dogs!!!

Forgive yes, forget no. I don't want to hurt Dave's feelings. I know he really likes Emery's.

What's being a girl got to do with anything?! (My thin ice detector is screaming right now!Laughing)

The current version of events is a Half marathon in May, a couple of endurance MTB XC events and a possible Olymp in July - that'll be me for the year - I'll spend the rest of the time earning browny points!

The question arose because when I was talking to a friend: I am apparently exhibiting symptoms of a lack of protein in my diet (Goodness knows how - I know I eat plenty - but maybe it's the wrong kinda thing?) I think it's more likely to be a lack of sleep due to a small 8month lady, but I reckonned a quick blast with something would prove the theory wrong and certainly wouldn't do any harm!

(I have found my thigh muscles (in particular) in the past fortnight are very easy to shred and take quite a while to recover, I've had infection after infection over the past coupla months, my concentration is rubbish and I crave all things sweet. Am I just pushing it too far? I know I'm rambling either way, so I'll shut up!)Wink

I've hear that muscles don't lose their memory, so you should be back at it full swing right soon.  Way to go.
