I tried a few profile designs but they were way to narrow and uncomfortable. I can put 100km ride in on my stock Norco bike seat but have yet to find anything else I like.

My Bride named her....she says because I love to ride her and money on her!!  Laughing  Hey, if the shoe fits....

I LOVE - LOVE - LOVE my Adamo.  As I have said earlier, the best money I have spent on Triathlon yet!  Planning on buying another putting it on the roadie for summer.  However, if you ride in an upright position, they are not very comfortable.  Definitely designed to have a very shallow hip angle no matter what bike you are riding.  I came off a profile design and have never gone back.

Fatty....I actually like my 2 color cable housings....  they match!  (I have obviously been spending way to much time with the ladies in my house!!

Andy,
I was with you this AM, up at 5:15 and in the pool at 7 for a 1400ish yrd swim. How long have you been doing yoga? I was thinking of asking the wife if I could join her, is it worth the time?

Nice job getting it done!

As far as the yoga, I have been at it for a few weeks now and so far I feel it is worth it.  My buddy has been at it for 3 years and swears by it.  It took him two solid years to convince me to give it a try.  I used to scoff but it has been a real workout everytime I go.  I see my flexibility gradually increasing and hopefully my core strength as well.   I know there are multiple types of yoga, but I have been doing hot yoga - 99 degrees in the room and 60+% humidity.  If I were you, I would give it a shot, you really have nothing to lose.

I have only recently started regular Yoga. YES it is worth it. I know I look like a fool (or more of one than usual) when I do it. But it helps with flexibility and core strength. Both of which I need more of.

My coach called yesterday to see if I wanted to run this afternoon with him. To do that meant getting up even earlier than usual and driving to the pool to get my swim in first. I did it, yeah.

Added benefit: My coach was there filming another athlete swimming. By the time I was 700 yds. in he offered to film me. This is very valuable. He told me he is going to put it up on youtube for me. What I learned:

1) I am smoother than the last time he saw me

2) I have a good strong catch

3) I need to roll my torso more. He told me to put my leading shoulder in fron of my head each stroke. It works!

4) I do not pull all the way through the stroke.

5) As I get tired I sometimes lift my head and do other bad things. He said to try to be smoother as I get tired as the bad habits just make it even harder.

Hopefully with this advice and some practice I can break 1:20 for 100 yds.

Doug

Adamo - tons of people have great success with them; however, they are not for everyone.  I tried one and it did not work for me - I went with Cobb V-flow and have been very happy with it.  I went through half a dozen saddles before I found it and wouldn't trade it for anything now.  I think John still rides the same saddle.  Cobb has the most phenonemal refund policy - like 3 months, no questions asked.  Lastly, if you are going with a high end expensive saddle, I would suggest renting one form Tri-Sports before dropping the $150 or more....

SoccerGK - 2011-01-05 12:23 PM Solid workout clothing so far!  Being a soccer player, I always swore by Adidas because it was really the only good soccer brand growing up.  Then when I got to college, I randomly decided to order a pair of Nike cleats, and they were the best things ever!  I slowly made the transition.  Now, I'm a Nike girl, totally.  It's just about all I'll buy.  I just bought a Nike Element running hoodie, and it honestly makes me so happy just to put it on because I know I won't be cold during my runs!  But I'm also obsessed with all my workout clothing, so it's impossible for me to pick a single favorite item.

Good news, too!  I GOT A SWEET INTERNSHIP FOR THIS SEMESTER!  I'll be working for a professor at our school who is also an athlete agent, which is my dream job!  Now I'm itching to get out of this darn job, but I'm stuck 'til the 28th.

Suzy - Thanks for letting me know that Racine only goes around the zoo!  That was my driving force (I'm an animal person to a fault).  So that makes me feel better about DC.

Does any Wisconsin-ite here know of a good swim coach in the Milwaukee area?  I may need some outside help in getting up to 1.2 miles for July!

Save me going back 40 pages.....what are you doing in school?   My eldest is a sports management major.  Her first internship was the 2010 Olympics, and she's now got a gig with Reebok.  She graduates in May.

I'm in law school at Marquette University right now.  I chose Marquette because it has one of the best, if not the best, sports law programs in the nation, and it's only one of 2-3 law schools you can get a Sports Law Certificate from.  I just love working in sports.  It's an awesome feeling!

I also did my undergrad in Sports Management, along with a Marketing degree to give me some more appeal to law schools.

Where is your daughter going to school?  And what does she want to do with her degree?  Those are some pretty awesome internships she's got!  I worked for a few sports teams in college (semi-pro, pro, and high school), and I'm hoping to work for a big retail company's legal department in the fall (I don't like to name names or talk too much about it because I don't want to curse myself). *crosses fingers*  I don't graduate 'til May 2012 though, so I've got lots of time in school still.  Ick.

When I was in law school the "new" commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, was one of my professors for Sports Law. There is a lot of overlap with IP law. Mostly copyright and trademark. Oh yeah, if you remember Marion Jones, I wrote the patent for the Nike running suit she wore and debuted at the Prefontain games.

Now THAT is just cool!

I'll be taking some classes this semester from Bud Selig.  He's a Milwaukee guy, so our law school gets to see a lot of him.

do you want to be a sports agent?

Yes, very much so!  And I chose that path BEFORE Jerry MacGuire came out, too!

Word. I have Andy's old Adamo and love it. Had it on my old bike. But I have a fizik something or other on the new bike.
If I can't get used to it, Adamo it coming back. If the new saddle works out, I may have one for someone to try out.

LOVE the early birds here! Great work, everyone!

Up a little early, 5:30-ish, to ride the trainer for 45 minutes, pretty easy, just flushing legs and doing some cross-training.

I'm answering this before I've finished reading the rest of the posts, so if someone already covered it I'm sorry.  Think of it this way.  If you are reaching for something high on a shelf you stretch out your hand/arm as far as you can and then you get on your toes and twist your body with your shoulder lifted so you can reach just that much further.  That is the same way to gain rotation through the body in the pool.  When you extend your arm infront of you, reach for that can way high on the shelf and your body will rotate.

Dino - That pool in Brown Deer sounds really nice!  Ryan and I are going to discuss tonight whether we'll start on the new program that starts up January 24.  $50 for 8 weeks doesn't sound bad, and we've been looking for something to spend our Christmas money on!

P.S. - Funny that your nickname is Dino, because that was always mine, too!  My maiden name was Inendino, so you see where it naturally evolved from.  Pretty cool!

Ahhhhh....That makes sense. When I first read it, I envisioned something different.
So essentially when you rotate your head is above the lead shoulder as the lead shoulder is underwater and your head is pretty much on top of it. right?

I just went back and read all the bios of the new members and realized I never posted one of myself. How rude.

NAME: Tracy “Sugar”

FAMILY:  I have a very active family with 2 daughters (10 and 7) and a hubby that also races, so you can imagine balancing everyone’s training schedules is complicated.

HISTORY:
H.S. cheerleader, dancer, gymnast (and partier)
College:  cheerleader (still partying)
Post college:  college cheerleading coach – not so much partying
Post-post college – 2 thanksgiving turkey sized babies- bye-bye six pack abs Cry hello extra belly skin

I’ve been racing for 4 years and progressed from super sprints to my first Ironman this fall.  I will never describe myself as a runner. I am a functional runner and mainly run because it is the third leg of the sport I love. I am a cyclist.  If left to my own choices I spend my time chasing my all male riding group around, and occasionally passing a few of them.

WEIGHT: Other than reaching ideal race weight this is not a problem for me. I’m more concerned with maintaining the healthiest eating habits I can.  I have a very strong sweet tooth and will pass up sex for chocolate any day.  The long legs that were a liability in cheering are a pleasant asset in this sport.  Who knew?

2011 RACES:   All my races are in prep for IM Canada.
March – half marathon
April – Olympic
May – Rev 3 HIM with the MG
June – Blood, Sweat and Gears century ride in the mountains
July – main IM build month
August – IM CANADA!!!!

GOOD ABOUT ME:  I make a great punch line for the boys in the group. They love finding embarrassing photos of me!  But on the serious side I hope I have made a contribution over the years.  This group is beyond supportive and has truly become synonymous with triathlons for me.  I find myself composing my race reports while racing b/c I can’t wait to share my thoughts and feeling with everyone here.

CAUTION: I am a very bad speller. Be kind.

DougRob - 2011-01-06 8:23 AM I have only recently started regular Yoga.

He told me to put my leading shoulder in front of my head each stroke. It works!

4) I do not pull all the way through the stroke.

5) As I get tired I sometimes lift my head and do other bad things. He said to try to be smoother as I get tired as the bad habits just make it even harder.

Hopefully with this advice and some practice I can break 1:20 for 100 yds.

Doug

Thats some good advice and good to goet some tips from the coaches.

But what does #3 mean?

I'm answering this before I've finished reading the rest of the posts, so if someone already covered it I'm sorry.  Think of it this way.  If you are reaching for something high on a shelf you stretch out your hand/arm as far as you can and then you get on your toes and twist your body with your shoulder lifted so you can reach just that much further.  That is the same way to gain rotation through the body in the pool.  When you extend your arm infront of you, reach for that can way high on the shelf and your body will rotate.

Ahhhhh....That makes sense. When I first read it, I envisioned something different.
So essentially when you rotate your head is above the lead shoulder as the lead shoulder is underwater and your head is pretty much on top of it. right?

Yes Trevor your head is over the leading shoulder. Tracy's analogy is a good one. I have develpoed what my coach calls a powerstroke, but in doing that I am not always rotating my torso like I should so this visualization helps me remember to do that. I hope with these latest tips/refinements I can break 1:20 before my 50th birthday. Hey since I can't run much I need to find motivation where I can.
