Dream Chaser - 2011-07-25 8:25 PM Mike, I hope your surgery goes well and your knee gets back to 100% quickly.  Great thing about today's arthroscopic surgery is it is less-evasive, precise, effective, and has a quick recovery time.  Wishing you all the best Mike.  Based on your motivation and enthusiasm alone, you truly deserve to be back training and racing at 100% capacity within a few short months.  God-Speed Recovery

THANK YOU TO EACH AND EVERY MEMBER IN THIS GROUP!!! YOU ARE ALL AWESOME AND INSPIRED ME!!!  I was executing the perfect race until mile 125 ; 12 miles into the Run.  I hit a dark patch for the next 10 miles and I really used the positive vibes of this group to help push me through.  THANK YOU GUYS and GALS!!

Congratulations Ironman!!

WahoooOOOOOOOO!!!

Thanks for all of the kind words and inspires. It was a great day. I actually got to meet DC briefly the morning before the race. Purely by chance. I know that he said that he hit a dark spot, but he looked strong both times I saw him on the run. IM is a long day and you are bound to hit tough times at some point. It is all about how you get through them. Going sub 12 hours for your first IM...very, very impressive. Congrats DC!

It was surreal meeting you George.  We've been 'internet friends' for close to 4 years, but have never met.  And we meet at 5 AM race morning!!  Too funny.  I can't believe how many Ironman's you have completed.  You are my IDOL!

Here's my RR everyone.

It's supposed to be hot here in NY (as it is everywhere I'm sure) so I'm thinking some late evening running and early morning biking are in the cards.

Hey everyone!  Such big things happening for the group lately!  It's a long weekend here in Canada woo hoo!  My plan is a long-ish but easy bike ride, a long hilly run and some swim sessions.  My allergies are driving me INSANE though so hopefully it won't hold me back.  Right now it's the stuffed nose and hacking.  Yikes!  Have a good weekend all!

I am SO undecided.  Thinking of doing an olympic this weekend, but think it might be too much if I plan to do a HIM distance race on August 7.  What do you think Ironman?

BTW, way to go sub 12!!

I would say that it depends. If the goal is just to do both races, then have at it. If one of these races is important enough to you that you feel that you need to perform at a certain level, you might want to skip the Oly. I would tend to think that doing the Oly and recovering should not be a bit deal. I guess I would tend to lean towards doing both. However, I will qualify this comment by saying that I tend to bite off much more than I can chew. A reasonable person might say to just do the 70.3.

Just my $0.02...

thanks for the race report... congrats IM.  One day I'll get there.

I have a question, in the swim portion you mentioned the "magic cable" what is the magic cable?

this has been a decent week for me training, and looking forward to riding tomorrow morning and hopefully running sunday morning before church since I wasn't able to get up this morning.

At IMLP there's actually an underwater cable that goes the length of the swim course, about 15 feet (?) down I've heard.  You can use it to sight during the swim.  Funny, though, it seems that those folks who plan to use it can never find it and then those who don't plan around it find it.  Hence, the "magic cable".

Good morning everyone!  Hope all are enjoying the weekend!

Feeling good about my training as of late although it's so hard to hit every single workout. I always seem to miss 1 or 2.  I was short last week but did a race and so that was a good experience.  I need to squeeze a swim in at some point today which will be a challenge.  I rode the bike course this week (well part of it - under construction) and am feeling better about that.  I do have a question though about my plan...

I'm feeling weak on the run.  I did 12 miles this morning but it was relatively flat - my race is hilly.  Wondering if maybe I should substitute some of my short bikes for runs to build a bit more volume so that 12 miles doesn't feel so much like a death march.  What are your thoughts?  Good idea?  Appreciate any advice here.  Thx

Bike fitness will carry over to the run, at least to a certain extent.  Maybe you can add a short run after your short bikes to gain some additional volume.  It will also help prepare you for the running after coming off the bike.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SURGERY TODAY MIKE!!! HEALING THOUGHTS HEADING YOUR WAY!!!

Thanks, everyone.  Surgery lasted all of 30 minutes...amazing what they can do nowadays.

I'm starting home-based ROM PT this morning (24 hours after surgery...amazing!!).  My knee is really swollen but surprisingly very little pain with just Motrin (not a big fan of Percocet...if you think I'm weird now, just see me on that stuff!).

Based on Dr. Internet, I can expect 3 weeks of slowly building PT and the beginning of walking, VERY light spinning, and easy swimming towards the end of that period.  At that point light jogging is generally introduced but I'm not going to push it...we'll be on vacation so I'll probably wait 5 weeks, unless my doc says have at it.

Taking it easy until post-op follow up the 11th...will post progress on by BT blog.

Thanks again, folks!

Mike speedy recovery. Maybe we can keep eachother company... I am strait up depressed: no biking, no running, no surfing, no tennis, I can swim...I just don't know what to donwiyh myself, I didn't realize how much of my mental stability relied on these activities and training. And more depressing tri is on Sunday the one I am going to have to defer from but just can't bare to yet...

Chava, start to blog about your recovery...it's already making me feel better.  One day you'll be able to look back at it as a badge of triumph!  Swim as you are able but don't overdo it.

I know how you feel, I just got my athlete's guide to my A race for next weekend.  Gonna settle that score next year but right now just taking one round of PT at a time.
