Veteran 173 Lees Summit | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed 45 minute on the trainer during class. 30 minute run after. Looking at my scorecard, i need to spend more time on the stupid trainer. I love riding. I can tolerate the trainer during a class or in a group setting. I hate the trainer while at home by myself. Oh well, I'll try to hit it one time this week outside of class. Thats my goal for this week. at least 1 time on the trainer at home. Great work Taylor. I've just started using Strava this year. Anyone else use it? It would be good to connect. Matthew, you can import from the Garmin. From the Strava website, "load activity" (top right hand corner) then on the left you will see"upload from Garmin device" |

Strava compiles the data from each ride and there are certain parts which are labeled segments. For each segment, people compete to have the fastest time of everyone of their sex (KOM or QOM) who has ridden that segment. Here is an example of a segment, http://app.strava.com/segments/995342. It adds sprints into your rides and allows you to compete even though riding is a fairly singular sport. Great work Taylor. I've just started using Strava this year. Anyone else use it? It would be good to connect. |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed So has anyone here do IM CDA this last year? I'm only about an hour away from there but have questions about the hills on the bike as I am more of a spinner than a grinder type of person. I feel most comfortable riding between 95-100rpm vs 90-95 rpm. Right now I have standard 53/39 with 12/25. I am really contemplating on going to a compact and sticking with the 12/25 or would it be better to stick with standard 53/39 and go to like a 12/27? Keep in mind there are some pretty good hills for IM CDA if you haven't done it before. Last year I rode my road bike with a triple so I had all the gears I wanted and didn't worry about anything. This year obviously a little bit different. |

I wish I had done it sooner! My knees love me now. I went to a Cycle Camp weekend and one of the guys there said anyone is not a Cat 1 or Cat 2 racing type should be on a compact crank. He just switches out his rear cassettes, he has several. He has ridden in Italy and several other non-flat areas. That was good enough for me. Jackie

I definitely not Cat 1 or Cat 2 rider at all. I don't even recall being in my big ring and some of my smaller rings in the rear ever. I guess I am somewhat concerned with being in the big ring and the 2 smallest in the rear while riding a lot but I highly doubt I will be anyways. I still might just keep my 12/25 for the rear and get a 12/27 as well to switch out should I need to do so for the hills. Of course the next thing to determine is crank length. I got fitted last year on my road bike which has 170mm. My tri bike that I bought used the guy had a 175mm crank on it. Why he went to that length I have no clue but I know that I don't care for it. I'm thinking I should just schedule a bike fit to figure out the correct crank length for me and then go buy one. But I wonder if I should buy a 170 before hand and have the bike shop put it on. I'm up in the air on that now. Thoughts ideas? |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed My race report is done. One thing I didn't include, Last year when I ran it there was one dumba$$ with a massive chest and a 6 pack who ran in only shorts and no shirt. At mile 12 he passed me, in an ambulance. It was 12 F out. This year he showed up in the same attire. It was 32 F with a rain snow mix. RD told him he had to wear a shirt. He fought them on it, and he discovered his mistake (it thought the mistake was the large muscles and 6 pack to compensate for the small cranium and the smaller .....). He put on a shirt, but then said at the first turn he would take the shirt off, which he did. Again this year he passed me at mile 12ish. This year it was in a truck, they pulled him off the course. You can't help stupid. |
