Champion 7595![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Columbia, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI'll wear my aero helmet. As an experiment, I've tried both at 95+ degrees (not a problem to find days like that here -- all of them are, nowadays), and I can't detect a noticeable difference. I used it in my HIM this year at 90+ degrees and put down a nice bike split (let's not talk about the run though...). |

I've been trying to do all my runs in the heat of the afternoon in order to get used to it. My runs have suffered. I'm usually about a 9:30-10:00 mile per minute pace in training. In the heat I'm more of a 10:30-11:00 mile per minute pace. Ug. |

It was really hot, in the upper 90s and humid the whole time! Great practice for Lou! I"ll post a full report later, but I was energized and really upbeat the whole time! Ran most of the first 6 miles and then slowed down for the rest, but it went great! Could not have gone ANY better!!! Definatly a confidence booster, I might just be able to finish Lou!!! Also, I just saw that 43 people out of just under 200 DNF the race!! Wow!! I'm so proud of myself that I finished and finished strong! Edited by Pegasus1731 2009-06-22 9:16 AM |

I'm volunteering at IMKY this year (bike in/bike out security from 730-1100) to scope it out for next year and was wondering if there is camping in the area or any cheap hotels anyone recommends? I've been keeping an eye on this thread and all your trainings are looking strong! The BT shirts are such a good idea! Keep up the good work and I'll see you all out there |

If so, what kind of stuff can we expect to see (gels, pb&j, sports drinks?)? Thx, and happy training. |

New user 29![]() Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI was curious whether anyone has heard whether the IMLouisville bike course has officially been changed due to the closed (or at least it was closed) one lane bridge on River Road. Last I heard is that this would definitely happen but there has been no announcement from the race organization or changes to the course maps posted on the race website. Not that it matters in the end because we ride the course we are given but it would be nice to know whether we will be facing two more climbs, each of which is as big or nearly as big the current biggest climb on the course. Sorry if this has already been addressed in one of the 52 early pages on this thread. Thanks. |

Sorry if this has already been addressed in one of the 52 early pages on this thread. Thanks. Construction has not started on the bridge, and it is currently tied up in legislation that make the possibility of re-opening by 8-30 impossible. It is currently closed due to safety concerns and the road surface is in terrible condition. The only option they have without dramatically redesigning the course is to have people veer right onto Wolf Pen Branch. This does add two significant hills to the course, but they are by no means as bad as the out and back on 1694 (mainly the back which is 1 mile @ 4.5% average). The climb going out of town is about .65 miles @ 4% average and coming back into town is about .81 miles @ 4% average. |

New user 29![]() Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadThanks for the update. Agreed about the difficulty of the two climbs compared to 1694. However, while I do believe that Wolf Pen Branch on the way out is overrated with respect to difficulty, it is definitely harder than cruising down River Road and the climb back up 42 at mile 100+ is less than ideal (at least for me since the last 20 - 30 of the course is where I picked significant time in '07). Regardless, I'll climb em' and be happy about it! Thanks again. |

You should get upwards of 40 mph on the downhills in either direction, though it will add probably 3 to 4 minutes to your overall time with the new climbs. I would be more concerned with the extra mile it would add to the course. Interested to see how they shave that off. |

Ran in a heat index of 95F last Friday and wilted quickly. Gonna take some time to get used to that! Get ready for the heat and humidity and get ready for it NOW! It has been in the 90s the past two years and last year we were treated to fresh blacktop in a few sections which made it extra steamy. You can expect maybe 35-40% coverage. Outside of downtown where you may get some shade from buildings, you will find trees lining the street down 3rd towards the University of Louisville and then on towards Iroquois Park. Doesnt mean you are guaranteed shade, but one side of the street generally offers some protection. |

Just when I thought I had accounted for all of the external variables... Any tips for getting ready to run in that kind of heat? My plan is just to get out and run during the hot part of the day as much as possible. Unfortunately, the weather has been cooler than usual so far. |
