Good morning everyone!  I'm going to go sneak in a run shortly.  I was hoping to get outside, but my dh just explained to me that we aren't staying in a very nice part of town (near the airport).  So I'll just go for a run on the treadmill.

We're going flying today!  We have a friend who owns a light sport airplane, and he's taking us up!!!  It's a beautiful day, and it should be lots of fun.

Hope the flight was fun! I would say flight beats run...call it altitude training while covering lots of mileage!

amy mutz - 2009-01-25 8:32 AM Hello all... Cheri like I already told you enjoy the flying experience for me...k! We have wonderful cold weather here again....but I'm feeling the urge to get out and train....yaya....you guys know what that means don't you!? I think my body is responding and getting stronger each day.......I'm so excited! I just told my husband that this morning is the first time in a long time that I got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about doing a triathlon...it feel good. Have a wonderful day where-ever you may be playing today!!!!!! Amy IN

Yay, Amy! Sounds like those butterflies are flying in formation...so great to hear that you are feeling better!

And Nicole, so sorry to hear that your butterflies were not cooperating. Take care of yourself. btw- I am incredibly impressed that you would get out there to ride on a 25F day....I am good to run in that temp but can't imagine doing a training ride. Rest up...

MDHillSlug - 2009-01-25 7:40 AM I'm ready for a ride but I'm delaying, waiting for the temperature to break 25F. It's nice and sunny and there's very little wind so it shouldn't be too bad.

dabnabit that is really chilly! stay warm Nicole...and have a great ride!

I'm wondering:if 25F is chilly...what do you call -2F?

I call it a great excuse to stay inside and take care of my legs

I'd call that "No Fracking way!" I know people ride that cold but I have no idea how they do it.

Well, it was a touch under 24F when I headed out and a bit under 28F when I was done. I was dressed well (5 layers on my body including windproof top layer, 2 layers on my head and face covered, 2 pairs of socks and winter riding boots, cold weather riding gloves with "wombat" over gloves) so the cold wasn't a problem once I got into it. However, it wasn't a very good ride. I was feeling slow and the effort was feeling hard. 15 miles in I needed to burp but it turned into a small barf (sorry, TMI) and I hadn't even gotten to the HARD part of the ride. I took a rest, rinsed out my mouth, and changed routes to get home the easiest way possible. Still, a bad day of riding still beats a lot of other things I can think of

I hope everyone is having a better go of it than me!

sorry nicloe, that sucks. but still, you're right, a bad day riding is still a lot better than a good day say, sitting on the couch. LOL
good ride/bad ride, still glad you had a chance to get out.

Ok, I never seem to get "strength training in".  Well I do crunches etc at home but nothign in the gym.

I swim in the morings when there is a sitter at the Y.  Then have my spin class mon and wed nights.  I run if I am lucky once a week outside and never on a dreadmill.   I have to get on a treadmill.......but I am hating to find ouf if I sound really heavy on a treadmill ! (just stupid insecurity).......

I need to do strength training.......... good grief, I just am not sure how mcuh of each discipline I should be doing ya know ?.......... ugh

I'm doing fine now. No lingering issues. My legs aren't even tired.

I'm pretty sure this is the lowest temperature I've started a ride in. Honestly, with the sun, it wasn't bad at all. It's always cold to start but after I start humming along, everything warms up and usually I start sweating. Today my hands got quite sweaty. My toes stayed cool but never truly cold.

I'll be swimming tomorrow early.

Hi all, I just got back from a 36 mile ride...just wanted to let Nicole know that if she could tough out those frigid temps, I was not going to wimp out and not ride...my husband was definitely going and I almost stayed home....til I remember her and Issabelles conversation about temps...thanks for motivation. Cuz I had a blast and even though it rained on us for short time...we had a fabulous tail wind for the whole ride home....and now I wont feel guilty having saki and beer at dinner....haha

Julie H sounds like you are doing great with variety...tomorrow I will take a look at your training log...tomorrow...I am just out the door to go grab some Chinese food...we walk to our favorite spot in da hood.

Lyssa a good day on the couch is probably what the doctor ordered...how are your toes? hoping not still purple! oh and I will mail your box Monday! its all packed.

Amy, glad you are feeling better and have tri on the brain again! you just made a short detour....glad you are back. Remember to make sure and let us know as soon as you hear any of Lacy's test results...fingers and toes crossed!

Amy SD...my daughter is pressuring me to sign up for a tri in San Diego...which one would you rather do with us...the May one or the October one? both are where we competed last year together...next to Sea World in the bay. I know you talked about doing it with us.

Cheri...I hope you listened to your husband and either did core training, dreadmill run at your motel. Didnt realize Albuqurque was bad around the airport...but will remember it the next time I travel thru there. How long will you be in San Diego? I can not remember where Hash House is but it is has the most amazing breakfast menu and bloody marys to die for...if you are staying near the bay area..and want fine dining...Island Primes has the most mouth watering food and finally old town has lots of great mexican food restaraunts...now have fun...even though you will be working while there...hope you can fit in lots of Cheri time.

Isabelle...are you enjoying a movie? book? stay warm! and enjoy you day off! thanks for your inspires! you got me out the door today! And everyonce in a while when I was chilly and about to complain or whine...I thought of your temps and thought how warm it is compared to there...so thanks for the new perspective! you always have such a positive impact on me!

Dan..saw on your log that you ran today! nice pace too! kiu! you are going strong! hoping it was warmer weather for you! do you do most of your running outside? or in?

Nicole...24 and 28...that is freaking cold! my hats off to you for riding in those temps. Hoping you are sitting by the fire...and staying nice and warm tonight! How is your knee? Hoping things are starting to settle around you.

Scot...Way to get lost...I mean watch Lost while doing eliptical....that is one show I never got to watch...it looks intense....my show that I can not miss is 24. Keep up the variety and training! glad to have you back.

Monica...hope things are ok and you will soon be back on the computer and logging all those workouts that you are doing! How is that cool membership to the gym that your boss got you?...you surviving the trainers and classes? cant wait to hear about it.

Nalani...YOU FEEL BETTER!!!! hoping that you are out and about swimming, snorkeling, biking....all over Maui and not sick! are you still in Maui or home now? I noticed in your inspires that everyone seemed to think you were doing a marathon this weekend...the one in maui is not til September right? hoping I am not a lame mentor and you are indeed racing this weekend!

Jennifer...I see you did a dreadmill run...way to fit that in between nursing your sick boys health back and your work! when you planning a trip this way....I know I could fill the house with some potential buyers...there would be fun had by all!!!! love to see your website do you have one?

Yvonne...how are those aerobars working? I want to buy my daughter some...is there anything special that I should know? I dont have them and know nothing about them...except they are very good for endurance races..which are flat. Nice run today. Is Linkin your dog?

Patricia...you have been one busy gal! love the picture posted! Nice job running over 10 miles and getting in the pool that same day! YOU AN ANIMAL!

Hope everyone had a great weekend....off to get Chinese food, saki and a beer or three!

back tomorrow! have a great evening all! rest up for tomorrows training!

BAH! i totally forgot to tell you guys!! i FOUND the answer to sore muscles!! i did that long run last wednesday, like 9.5 miles, and i expected to be unable to walk on thursday. WELL! i got up thursday morning, and we were planning to go hang out at the lake (we LIVE at the lake, we were just going to go hang out by the water) and i knew it was going to be cold, so as an extra layer, i put on T.E.D.S. i don't know what that stands for, but they're compression tights (well, actually, like thigh highs) i got them for when i was pregnant with my youngest, and had restless leg syndrom really bad. they were SO GREAT on sore legs! they kept good circulation there all day, and when i took them off that night, i had almost NO muscle soreness!!
i meant to tell you guys!

anyway, i know there aren't a lot of places you can get teds, but i got mine at a medical supply place right near the hospital, they're FARKING EXPENSIVE!! (i think around $80) but my insurance paid for them because i had a perscription. anyway, if you HAVE teds, or if you can get your hands on some, they're GREAT!!

Good morning everyone!

I'm at the airport, waiting for my flight to SLC then San Diego, and they have free wireless internet at this airport!

I didn't get to fly yesterday (too windy ) but I did get a decent run in.  There is a local 5K next Saturday that I'm considering doing, but we'll see how much time I get to run this week in San Diego.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Hi Julie.  Sounds like a fun ride.  I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can try out some longer distances on the bike (hopefully a new one).

I do all my running outside these days.  I did own a fairly decent treadmill about 12 years back and I have logged lots of treadmill miles in hotels while traveling on business.  I even did some miles on a cruise from San Diego to Acapulco (also about 10 years back).  That was tricky.  The health club was up at the front of the bow and with the ship moving, it could be challenging not to fall.   Anyway, I much prefer being outside and will only resort to the treadmill if it gets really ugly.

I went swimming this morning and had a pretty good swim. It's all been downhill since. Went to take my shower and discovered that I hadn't packed my soap/shampoo/conditioner and had to clean up using the stuff in the wall dispenser. Then, when dressing I discover that I hadn't packed my blouse. I briefly considered going home for it, but that would have been at least 30 minutes each way. So, I'm sitting here at work wearing my Tour de Cure Cyclist in Training ls-tee that I wore to the pool. I feel very conspicuous.

Can I start my day over?

LOL However, I have a story to tell you that may make you feel some comfort.  I had gone swimming, showered, went to dress and could not find my panties !  So I go commando to the car and find my pink granny panties RIGHT NEXT TO MY VAN DOOR !!!!

I was horriifed, then I did the "look to see if anyone is watching me"....and picked it up when I figured it was safe ! Funy now, but not funny then !...............

Congrats on the swim !!

Good morning everyone!

Nicole: Conspicuous = OUTSTANDING!

Sorry I've been away so long - work's been crazy busy. I'm trying to get a grad student out the door with a thesis and she's a very slow writer - wants to discuss every sentence, it feels like! But, we're getting there. I didn't realize it had been more than a week since I've seen you all! I have been training and I'll update my logs today or tomorrow and catch up with everyone. I got my 7 mile run in yesterday and today's my rest day so I'm taking a visiting friend to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

I'll check in later! Have a great Monday, hope those tickers are all moving!

you poor conspicuous child, you~!!....it is not like you havent had anything on your mind or anything!

I am all for the day over thing...but then that would mean that you would have to go back and do the work you have done this morning again...so, instead just consider it a casual Monday....and have a great rest of the day!

That would be awesome, Julie, but I live in the opposite direction from you - Davis. A friend is out for a long weekend from Boston, and we're just making day trips since the weather has been iffy. Went wine tasting up in Murphys yesterday, which was a blast, although I did have a few too many sips!

By the way - it was me who wanted the Patagonia jacket, if no one else has asked for it. I'll pm you with my mailing address.

Have a great day!

I'm really glad I don't have any meeting today!

Trish, what's your area of research? When I was writing my thesis (yeast genetics) I think it was my advisor who wanted to discuss every line. Still, we got it written and defended in less than two months.

Our YMCA opened registration for the March 7th Indoor tri !!     I SIGNED UP !!!!!  I will ask tonight if I can remember if I am teh first to register (the gal at the desk was busy today)  but I can ask tonight when they are not near as busy and see how may have signed up.

TEE HEE, so exciting !!! This is the one that I was invited to be in back in October.........and why I started to learn how to "TRI"........   I can't stop smiling !  Oh wait, yes I can, I have to to grocery shopping at Walmart........and the smile is gone ! lol

Congrats on your first tri! Signing up is half the battle. You'll have a blast.

Hey,

I'm looking at the possibility of a snowy morning. For those of you who run in the snow, how to you keep from slipping and hurting yourself?

If it is just an inch or three, go for it.  Take your time and relax your legs.  Don't try to do a speed workout.  Stay away from any steep hills and stick with a known course.  Gentle inclines should be fine.   I love being the first one out on new snow as long as there isn't too much of it.
