Yes. That's pretty much the lions share of my work these days. Doing a lot for the child advocacy center and tons of sex abuse/broken baby cases. Much worse than drug dealer A shoots drug dealer B. But we get through it

Ice, SWEET new ride!  and thanks for the advice!

Kirk, can't wait to see those pics!  I've been wanting to do something with my basement for a while now.

I had a GREAT swim this morning!  I took the wetsuit to the pool with me.  Last time I had it out the zipper popped on my and I wanted to make sure it was just the extra weight/size I had on my then.  I also was curious how the shoulder would be with the extra resistance.  Everything worked out good.  I'm glad I did this.  I should do it more often to stay used to swimming in the wetsuit.  It makes a huge difference on my speed.  I clocked a 3:12 200m and a 13:30 800m today!  I'm never that fast without a wetsuit.

Oh.....and to top it off, I tipped the scales this morning at 165!!!! Woot!

A couple more workouts and I'm off to Vegas!  One more bike and a long run before I get on the plane!

Need pics of new bike and gym!!!!!!

I really enjoy using my paddles on the swim, however (knock on wood) - no shoulder problems at the moment!  If you are having trouble with the pull portion of the swim I like a couple of drills - the catch up drill (gets you in a longer streamlined position to start the pull) and fist drill (can really feel it when you use your lats and not your shoulders). Make sure to keep the elbows up - that will help with rotation.

Off to yoga and a 2 mile run this morning. And if it doesn't rain, plan to take the kids fishin'

LOOONG ride planned for tomorrow, vacation starts on Tuesday. - HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

I never had any problems with my shoulders either.  Even when I used my paddles a lot.  Not until I went over the bars on the MTB!!! LOLSealed

Have fun on vacation Robin, and everyone else have a nice weekend!  Happy Training!

Brian - I slipped on ice 2 winters ago.  Caught myself with my right arm straight and all the force went into my shoulder - I had problems for over a year with the stupid shoulder.  Never had it looked at, but sleeping on that side and pulling with the paddles really caused it to act up. Sucks getting old - I am sure you will heal much much faster!

Thanks Robin! I had his happen once before too. I took out both my dogs on a leash one night. They were running around in the back going every which way and I held one leash above my head so it wouldn't tangle. The dog on that leash saw a rabbit and took off! Really messed up my shoulder it was sore for almost a year. It's only been a year since it felt better. Unfortunately, I'm not that young either. I'm 37. I think once I hit 30 things seemed to take forever to heal! It really sucks! I don't think I'm going to get it checked out. Day to day it's fine. It's really only after strenuous work or swimming. I don't think it's because I'm not rotating enough. It's more likely all the rotation an stabilization my shoulder is doing while swimming. I've had a pretty good coach and am pretty confident in my form. My problem swimming is more volume. I don't swim enough! When I swim more I can tell my balance is better, my legs and hips are higher in the water, and my pull is stronger, and my turn over is faster. The wetsuit masks a lot of those problems. But who knows. I can try a little more rotation next time a swim and see. I think the shoulder will get better in time. I'm just going to get to Racine and make the call from there. Right now I'm capable of SBR albeit a little painful. But it's not getting worse so Im sure I'm not doing any more damage to it. I it's getting worse after Racine or I can't race I think it's time to see a doctor.

Longest ride EVER today!!!!  57 miles and 4 1/2 hours - feel great.  Hopefully this is enough to get me through my 80 mile ride  from Kluane National Park, Yukon to Haines, AK next Saturday. Taper time!

The only thing that I will add on the shoulder issue is that in us older Embarassed people the issue I am having and that he fixed  probably didn't happen at once.  The doctor stated it probably started as a small tear then a series of events finished it off.  So be carefull!

Just to give you guys some ideas, here are a couple pictures of my fitness room.  Almost makes it too comforatable to stay inside! These are a couple of years old so the bike and treadmill are the older ones that I replaced last year.  There are more pictures in my albums.

Brian - Congrats on the weight!

Robin - nice riding.  You'll be fine.  I HEAR (I dont know) that once you can go long, and you can, you can just keep going...

That is a sweet setup Ken.  When my youngest goes to college in 16-17 years, I am definately going to try this.  Now I just throw my trainer up in their playroom/converted garage and fold everything up when I'm done.

Had a good weekend, but busy and managed to squeeze a sprint in this morning.  I didn't sign up because its one week after HIM and one week before a longer sprint that I already registered for.  Buy since it was for a good cause and I feel fine I woke up this morning and went at it.  One thing about doing every sprint that pops its head up is that I'm afraid to miss the long rides that I really need.  So I compromised by biking the to/from the race, so with the 8.5 miles bike leg, I managed to get in ~36 miles of riding with some threshold stuff in the middle.  Glad I raced it, went about 19.5 mph on the bike (my fastest, but this is a VERY short race) and something like 6:58/mile running a 5k.  Swim is still a bit of joke.  I was 3rd to last out of the water on a 400-500 yrd swim.  No wetsuit since I had my transition in a small backpack.  Biking in your gear really helps clean up those cluttered transitions Smile

Tommorow starts the long build that hopefully ends at IMAZ.  Happy training folks and stay Safe!

Nice way to get some higher intensity training in Bill!  Great times and a good lesson on minimalist transitions!

Ken, that is a great room! I am going to put the racks and weights in the garage so I can drop em on the floor. I already have the C2 rower and trainer in the basement. My wife will not rain in the garage. These girls and their rules! Had a consistent training week but I had a garbage plate sat and mighty taco on sun. I am up two pounds

I put the rubber matting down for the plates, they don't show in the pictures posted but I have an Olympic weight set in there as well.

Have fun with the new weights and stay away from Nicks! Cool

I passed the International Triathlon Coaching Association certification test yesterday.  Hard test.  Lots of particular anatomy questions.   But got through it.   Need to do a CPR course and I'm a coach.  I have so much to learn.  My plan is to work with my coach the rest of the year learning how he does my plan and then take on a couple of friends for free in winter to make an annual plan for them.  Meanwhile I'm going to do some more courses....working with the plus sized people like I was and the older folks and see if I can help some people find the joy I've found in this lifestyle.

Not doing Racine.  Saved the money for the new bike.  I expect that today or tomorrow.

Good things happening here.

Enjoy the new bike and post a picture so the rest of us can drool over it!

A little horn-tooting here.  I got my first AG win last weekend, belatedly.  Just got an email from the RD saying they messed it up and will send a plaque and a gift card (bikeshop sponsored race Smile).  I thought something was a little wonky when I recognized the fella on the 1st place podium for M35-39.  I recognized him because I passed him 1/4 mile from the finish on the run and there was only one wave for all men.  It was a tri for charity and they manually timed it to save money for the charity that otherwise would have been spent on chip timing, so I wasn't going to stomp my feet and cry "foul".  There were only 5 guys in my AG, but a "W" is a "W".  Kona, here I come!!!!
