I'm starting to transition into specitivty training for Boston.

Got the details on what is on course. Powerbar (that makes that part easy) and of course, Gatorade (the yellow crap, boooooo.) I am not a fan of that flavor of Gatorade  I need to buy some and learn to like it as I won't be carrying liquid and I will need it (and water of course.)

I've also made a folder with so much info about the course elevation changes it will make your head spin.

This kind of information exists , specific to EVERY hill:

"Elevation (top): 51 meters (167 feet)
Elevation (bottom): 15 meters (49 feet)
Length: 951 meters (.59 miles)
Avg. Grade: 3.8%
Steepest Grade: 5.6%"

God bless the internets!

That 12km on a wicked downhill should be HELLA fun.

Oceanside has a speed limit on the wicked downhill

You'll see why, when you get there. For some reason it's a good one to pee on, though.

Pros were going in excess of 120 kph through the Eastlink tunnels at IM Melbourne! Holy effen crap. I hit over 80 and was shaking in my boots. Actually not, my bike was amazing. I gotta think at the speeds the pros are going they're really testing the high performance end of those high performance bikes! Maybe not, though. Who knows how fast a tri bike can go?

cdban66 - 2013-02-19 7:20 AM Janyne, you had asked about trail races in the area. I have done 2 this season, and there are a few other options. Unfortunately, they are at least an hour and a half away, most in the Thonotosassa area. I am a bit spoiled in that most every race I have done is within 30 minutes of the house. I wish I could train up there, there are some real pretty parks. But, I'll take what I can get, I do live in a beautiful area so I really can't complain. Where else is 33 degrees considered awfully cold?

Pfft.  A bit hard to train on them regularly then.

I have a few trails in the area, but the difference is night and day. Oh well, they are nicer than what is available in many places, so I'll take it. But your point is well taken.

My neck of the woods. But I don't have nice running trails...desert, road/sidewalks or mountains are my options. Glad I enjoy the mountain trails!

You've tested the seat limits. Time to test the speed. Of course it has to be done the way you did the seat, sans clothes.

A few pics from our SD vacay. You'll see why I enjoyed so much!

Super cute!! My bro and sis and I got around via beach cruisers while we were there about 98% of the time. I think I could live in SD ...

It was fun...could've done without the petrified non-bike people trying to bike on the crowded walkways. lol    DH lived in SD for almost 10 years, so it was fun for him to take me around to old favorites   Was hard to leave.

Good morning Manatees! I kept up with the Manatee chatter over the weekend, via email, but haven't read the RRs yet. Looking forward to reading those!

My weekend was pretty good, considering. I got my training sessions in, in spite of having housepests. Even the visit went better than I anticipated. Maybe the fact that I did a 3 hour bike ride while they went site-seeing was part of the reason it went well Wink

Now that I am back to the work week I need to figure out how to get my swim session done tomorrow! I have to be at work early so my normal Wednesday routine won't work. Getting to the pool earlier isn't really an option as the lanes are full from 4:30 to 5:00 (it looks like a scene from "Cocoon"). I can't swim after work because Wednesday is small group. So my options are 1) go straight from the pool to work, but I worry about having everything I need for work and swim, and I don't like to leave the dogs locked up that long, or 2) re-arrange the session with Thursday's bike or run but the locker room is closed this Thursday morning and I don't know how crowded the pool is in the afternoon or 3) skip the swim session Yell

Happy Tuesday (Wednesday) all!

Option 1 sounds like the best.  The dogs will be OK with a rare day of being locked up longer than usual.  Laughed at the 'Cocoon' reference!! Tongue out

Anyone near home you trust to let them out/in for potty break?

HAHAHA I just talked to a guy at Koobi (my saddle brand) since mine just blew apart, 10 days out from IMNZ, awesome!!! They can get a new one to me in NZ in 4 days!

He asked me what kind of training I did and what happened to it.

"Well, I've trained for three Ironmans on it ... "

Silence.

"Hello, are you--"

"THREE IRONMANS?! Yeah ... we recommend you replace the saddle at 400 hours max. I mean, a lot of them go a lot longer but by that time the foam's not supporting you like it should. How many running shoes you go through?"

Good point. Also, the saddle is $80, which is approximately the cost of a pair of runnies. Durrrrr ...

Durrrrr ...

Happy to try and help from here.....just say the word!  (the word is do eeeet)

You are such a sweetie Jo! Hmmm ... how fast can packets get from Oz to NZ?

I may take you up on it. They do have Koobi NZ and AU but the U.S. head office can actually process orders and get them shipped out int'l faster than locally!

I have a feeling I'm going to really regret having finished off the chili in about 90 minutes when I'm in the pool.

I can run on an overfull chili meal, no problem, but swimming ... shudder ...
