Any tips for getting ready to run in that kind of heat?  My plan is just to get out and run during the hot part of the day as much as possible.  Unfortunately, the weather has been cooler than usual so far.

Need to train in the heat?  Come to Georgia.  Our heat acclimation is well underway, with days here in South Georgia peaking at over 100 - close to 110 with the "heat index" (high humidity).  Broke a sweat rolling the trashcan to the curb last night at 11:00 pm.  Even Atlanta is seeing temps over 95.  Running is no fun, but it's a good motivator to get that swim workout done.

Ten (10) weeks to Ironman - 8 to the taper.  Last week was pretty tough for me, as I tried to make up for some lost workouts the week before.  Due to some knee issues, I'm a little behind on my long runs, but I think that will be the case all the way up to the start-line.  My bike is good, and I've even gotten in some nice hill rides in the North Georgia mountains lately (very flat where I live).  My first century of the year will be this weekend, and should be good hot-weather training as well.  I'm hoping to give the nutrition plan a trial run.  My swim needs some more distance, but we've got 8 weeks to get there, right?

Push on, people.  Push on.

Get ready for the heat and humidity and get ready for it NOW!  It has been in the 90s the past two years and last year we were treated to fresh blacktop in a few sections which made it extra steamy.

Yikes!  Just when I thought I had accounted for all of the external variables...

x2.  I've been embracing the heat as much as possible -- running in late afternoon, for example.  And we don't seem to have that 'cooler than usual problem' here.  It's been in the mid to high 90s for a while here...  You'll never be as fast at 95 degrees as you are at 50 degrees, but your body does get somewhat used to it.

Does anybody have definitive info on what will be available (specifically, drink and gels) on the bike and run courses?  I can't find any such info on the IMKY web site.

On Sat.  I did an 80 miler.  I Finished about 10:45ish and it was 101 in the shade.  But about 50ish miles into the ride, I came up on a group of roadies and a lady had passed out.

Chicken broth was out there last year....as quoted from my IMKY RR  "Then the "sex in a cup" is out on the course...a.k.a. chicken broth! I had heard the tales of how wonderful this is, but could not fully grasp it's power until IM. It tasted amazing!!"

Yikes, Snowbird... I hope you recover fast.

Yes, the chicken broth tasted heavenly last year. It wasn't available at all aid stations, but it was there.

I'm not sure they had chicken broth but they did have some luke warm yellow liquid....

Sorry, but I don't share Abbie's assessment of the "sex in a cup"....more like pss in a cup IMO.

PA has been mild at best..great for most folks but I'm in need of some hot temps!  We did have a 85 day here today and I was outside all day for work and then ran 1 hour when I got done.  I sweated a lot at work (kevlar/polyester doesn't breath) and felt a little heat exhaustion....not what I expect Louisville to be like.  I have family in Louisville and they think I'm crazy for doing this race.  My cousin said to me "Gwen, don't you know its like Africa here in August?"  :0)

it's been in the high 90s and even topped 100 a few times in Bama.85 would feel like a cold front.

90 here in Kansas City. . .Heat index of 99.  Just got done with a 90 mile ride followed by a 1.5 mile run (that was all I could muster).  I PRAY that Lville is a little cooler come Aug. 30th.  Please!?
