Okay, weekend roundup, and a 3 day weekend at that (for us in the states).  What's everyone up to?

My training volume is way down so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself for 3 days.  Saturday will be spent watching football.  Other than that I need to get organized for next weekend.  Time to make some lists and quadruple check everything!

Travel soccer in Manassas. We do get to go watch DC United play so that should be cool. Rest for next weekend. I am getting very excited hope the shin holds up, really hurt today.

Got back from another three days on the road last night, and I'm totally wiped.  Trying to give my shins a break with no running since reducing the intensity isn't solving the problem (it's killing me though).  Think I'll hit the pool today.  Yoga on Sunday.  Thinking an early morning bike ride on Monday might be the ticket.

I did a swim today, 2000 yards....modified my swim set to lessen the breast stroke since that kick is ill advised by the PT.  Got someone at the gym to open the closet and get me a belt for aqua jogging.  It's harder than it looks!  I was more out of breath with 18 minutes of aqua jogging than I was for my swim set!

OK guys, RACE SEASON IS OVER!!!!

No more guilting myself to go swimming or put in miles on the bike.  Feels kind of nice actually, but now what do you do with all your spare time?

I took 1st place!!!  Ha, ha, ha . . . I was the only person that did the half aquabike.

I actually did much better than I thought I would do.  I guess I didn't give myself enough credit.  My time for the bike was worse than Muncie, but the winds were brutal yeterday. You would go from an easy 22mph to 13 mph.  I felt pretty good other than battling the wind all day.  I even got out of the seat after very turn to get back up to speed, which meant I had good legs.  I was happy.

I do have a nasty wetsuit burn on my neck from being too tight.  Didn't know til I took a shower afterward.  OUCH

I will post race report soon

Played with some IM work on my swim set today.  25 yard increments of fly and breast stroke are just about right with as badly as I swim them!!
Different person got the aqua jog belt out for me today.  More appropriately  sized.  My quads were on FIREW with 30 minutes of aqua jogging!

Congrats on a great race.  Battling that wind is never any fun.

Enjoy the down time and lack of structured training!  I know I am looking forward to that too

Weekend in Washington with the travel soccer was not very relaxing got back about 10:30 and up for work at 4:30 so looking for some quality rest time for this weekend. I have decided just to rest the shin til Saturday, I don't think any run is really going to make a difference at this point anyway. Really getting nervous, hope the shin holds up I can run on it but I have had a noticeable limp when I run and it really adds up after a while. Other than that ready to go hoping for a cool day.

So I see that Neal and Kip have some serious pre race taper madness going on......
I got some most excellent news in PT yesterday, MAYBE 2 more weeks in my boot then possibly time to allow me on a stationary bike.  He doesn't want me on the trainer yet cause he wants me pushing the pedal stroke with the heels yet and clipped in the stroke will be too far forward.  Anything to get out of the pool!!

Congrats on the good news Judi, its about time after a rough few months your due. Packing tonight and hooking up the camper. Friday we will take the kids to Busch Gardens ( I say kids but they are so grown now) Friday, so I should get plenty of walking in, pick up the race packet and try to get a little swim in the James just to see how salty the water is and then hit it Saturday. Thanks for all the support I really fell good about this one hope all goes well. Again thanks for all the help and inspires I am really excited.

Recovery question:  What have you guys done in the past to help you body recover faster from a big race.

I know I only did an aquabike, but my legs just done seem there yet.  I haven't done anything since the race . . . should I have done a light workout the last few days?  When I did Muncie in July it seemed to take weeks to feel good again.

Well I signed up for a bike ride this weekend, so better come back quicker . . . at lesst it isn't a race . . .

Just checking in.... weird not to be checking in daily, but i should be getting a new computer soon, so I will be back out of the dark ages in no time!

Judi- Great news about being able to get back on the stationary bike soon!  Progress!!

Kip & Neal - I hear you guys about taper!  I honestly feel like it's my least favorite part of training!  I don't have to start tapering for my marathon for another 2 weeks, but I'm already not looking forward to it!  Good luck on your races this weekend.  You will both kick butt Smile

Carrie - My post-race activities of choice are yoga, foam rolling, and massage.  Not sure if they help me recover faster, but I usually feel back to normal within a day to a week.

This week, I've just been recovering from last weekend (18-miler on Saturday followed by a half marathon on Monday where I PR'ed), so I've just been taking it easy, stretching a lot, and went to get a massage today.  I have an open water swim race on Saturday and a century planned for Sunday, so it'll be quite an interesting weekend!

Good luck this weekend Neal!!!  Can't wait to hear about the big race.

Good luck also to anyone else who is racing this weekend.

As far as recover, it may be all mental, but the best thing I did was buy a pair of recovery socks at a marathon expo.  I wear them after long runs, long rides, or races where I went hard and seem to recover much quicker.  Swimming also helps (the cold water I guess).  And of course foam rolling is always good.

Okay here is all of the tracking information for those interested.

First off, the bib is #387 for tracking on ironman.com

Second, I rented a GPS unit to wear throughout the day.  It will update my position on the course every couple of minutes.  2 addresses for this:

web browsers and iphones: ?http://www.trackmyathlete.com/vemap.aspx?name=033139
blackberry/pda/etc.: http://www.trackmyathlete.com/pda.aspx?name=033139

Thirdly, there is always the BT watching thread.
