givemashot - 2012-05-15 11:06 PM Hi guys. Sorry I've been MIA. Again. This time of year gets so busy in my neck of the woods. I'm doing the single mom thing again, too. I am doing the bike leg of an Oly Tri Relay this saturday. I'll be driving 5 hours each way, pulling the travel trailer with hubby's new truck. I haven't towed the trailer for almost two years. And I won't have a backup driver. And I'm taking the kids with me. And hoping the trailer doesn't get too small for them while I am racing.

Wow!  You ARE brave!

Good luck on the race!  Enjoy it

Just make sure that all the electronic gadgets are fully charged before you start your race.  That should keep them occupied while you are racing.  Have a great time.

Hello ghoulies.  This will be a busy weekend for me.

Saturday morning I will be working (and walking since I can't run) the first annual Rotary/Citizens Police Academy race.  This will be a fundraiser for both groups.  Rotary is putting their funds towards building a pavilion for the new community garden.

Saturday afternoon we have a wedding to go to.

Sunday morning, we have to get up at the crack of stupid and ride the motorcycles to the other side of Atlanta and work a bicycle race.  We will be the motocrew helping along the route.  I'm thinking that since we will be riding through Atlanta at about 5:00 in the morning on Sunday that we can take the highway without too much problem.  Coming home will be another story as I won't go on the highway with traffic.

Luckily I have Friday off to prepare and Monday off to recuperate.

Hey there Ghoulies. I woke up to no power so I decided to get my inspection done early. I had to spend a few minutes chatting with "neighbors" at the end of the road until the tree was lifted from across the power lines. Tomorrow is another day teaching so I won't be able to check in until late.

Kendra, sounds like a great weekend, especially with the recovery day at the end! You will have fun in your race! (I really did put the check for two tickets in the mail today).

Amy, Glad to see you pop in. Remember to take care of you with all of that taking care of everyone else. Your race sounds fun. Take care with that trailer. We want to see pictures.

Ann, how is the boy today?

Well hello there.

What a day. Both kiddos were home sick today. My son has what the pediatrician thinks is Strep throat. She said it could be a virus that is going around, but they haven't seen a lot of the virus, they have been seeing a lot of the strep, and he has classic symptoms. The quick strep test came back negative, but she said almost all they have seen lately it doesn't show positive until 24 hour later, so she said don't be surprised if we get a call from their office tomorrow. He has been off of school for the last 2 days, and they want him to stay home tomorrow, too. He had perfect attendance until the last 17 days of school.

AND

I turned down a job offer today making A LOT of money. It would have been $12,000 more a year than I'm making now, but I would have had to give up a few of my paid personal days off, 2 holidays, and the flexibility I have with my schedule, which means no more working from home. I couldn't do it. I also would have been working where I worked a few years ago, just with a different company on a different project. I found out the names of a few of the people I'd be working with, and I didn't want to work with them. We have food on the table, clothes on our backs, and the bills are all paid. This wasn't something I HAD to take.

Be careful on the motorcycles. Is your back ok when you ride?

Sounds like you gave it some good thought and made the right decision for you.  Extra money is not necessarily a good reason to take a job if there are other negative factors involved.

Sorry to hear that both kiddos are sick today.  And bummer on your son missing out on perfect attendance in the last couple of weeks of the year.

On the lighter side of things...

We own an incubator, for hatching eggs. Years ago when we had guineas we hatched out several batches. My daughter's class is hatching eggs now, they should hatch this week. My SIL lost 15 chickens to foxes just this week, so I spoke with her, and we are going to hatch her some baby chicks. I've got the incubator setup, checking the temp, and I ordered eggs today. In 21+ days we should have some fuzzy little chicks in our house. I'll take pictures. Actually, when they start hatching I'm going to try and get some video.

That sounds like a great experience for the kids.  Not something that you see happening in a suburban or urban school setting.

Today will be kind of fun.  I get to drive into Atlanta to pick out some fabric to have 10 chair reupholstered at the branch.  We hope to have time to stop and eat lunch out.  I sure hope so since I did not bring anything to work.

The third graders in our school district have hatched out butterflies from cocoons, frogs from tadpoles, and now the chicks from eggs. My daughter has seen the butterflies, and chicks before. She's also seen a baby horse being born. We have 2 baby horses on the road right now, we go visit them frequently. That's spring time on a farm.

Um... I just read an article that a man with 30 children, all 14 and under, to 11 different women, can't afford child support. He makes minimum wage. I think someone should tell him how babies are made.

Vasectomy - and should have been done when he was last in court with just 21 children.  And what about those women?  STUPID.  If he can't support one baby with you when would you go and have another?

Good morning Ghoulies!

I couldn't sleep, so I came to work. It could be a long day though, because I have to stay until the other guy leaves, it's his last day. He usually works until 5, I'm hoping he doesn't today. Keri has track and field day at school this afternoon, I'd like to get there for part of it.

Morning Ghoulies. It was a long day yesterday. Drove to Salisbury, taught a class, drove back in time to get to the benefit auction a little late, 7:00pm. Today is supposedly my day off but I have to go to the State Park and to re-do inspection from the other day. I couldn't get to the whole thing because of the massive rains and mud. Then some chores, then some yard work. Hopefully a swim will be in there.

Good morning, Robin.

I have a piece of advice for you and your husband. Run. Run a lot. Run if you're tired. Run if your sore. Run if you don't feel like running. 26.2 miles is a very long way. So run.
