amd723 - 2012-09-21 11:13 PM Well manatees, I am going to get my first DNS Sunday . I have not been able to shake this stupid cold and although I'm sure it will be better by race time, I would have to head down to south Florida today (packet pick up and bike drop off is tomorrow) and I can't work up the energy to make the 3 hour drive. If this were my A race, I'd do it, but it isn't ; so I think it is better to make sure I'm healthy and don't do anything to negatively affect my training for the HIM next month. At least that's what I'm telling myself to make me feel better about bailing ( and losing my entry fee!).Hope the rest of the racing manatees have a better weekend!

{MELON PRESS}

Smart Ann-Marie Manatee. Cookie?

I was supposed to race this weekend as well ... I've just been vewy vewy quiet about it. And yes, I'm NOT doing it now.

Who is racing this weekend?

Well, lots of respect. To both of you.

I think deciding not to race is one of the hardest decisions we have to make.

Ann-Marie & Yanti, good decision not to race!

Ann-Marie, Yanti & Jen, get better!

Kate, Glad your friend has some answers.  Sorry the school funding issues continue.  My SIL had similar issues. Money mouth

Melanie, I second (or third or whatever) the short-sleeve jersey with arm warmers.  I'll probably be doing the same (except I'll be the slow one of the bunch).

I had a good day at Masters this morning. Coach was there today instead of Wednesday and we worked on float drills and side kick drills.  I think it helped me some. So Wednesday there was a new cute young blonde piglette sharing my lane. I was showing her the ropes for using the written plan etc. Then she and the cute young dark piglet in the next lane discovered each other Tongue out and spent half of their time chatting. Not a big deal, just stay out of my way! Well then said piglette left about 1/2 hour in to the session. So today she's back but there is less chatting because Coach is on deck but the flirting continues. Ahhhh young love ... just stay out of my way (humbug).

I have a 4 Miler tomorrow.  My current plan is to run at least half.  It is a charity walk/run, so even if I walk the whole thing, it will be fine.

bcraht - 2012-09-18 10:05 PM Went out for a hard 4km run today.  It hurt.  I do get a kick out of the fact that my hard run is slower than Salty's 'relaxed' runs Laughing

99.9% of the worlds hard runs are slower than Salt's 'relaxed' runs - she's a machine!!

Good work out there!!

amd723 - 2012-09-19 1:57 PM I am part of this day sucks crowd. I've got a cold, I forgot to call my mother for her birthday ( yesterday), my glute still bothers me on the bike and I have absolutely no interst in my race this weekend. In fact, since it's an out of town race, if I'm not feeling better by tomorrow night, I will probably not race. Oh well, the baby manatee pic sure is cute.

Hmmmm are you just burnt out?

I agree on bagging it if you aren't feeling better. Suffer fests have a time and a place but while sick with a sore glute is probably not going to do you any good.

Don't know if I'm burnt out or not, but I am looking forward to the end of HIM training! This weekend's race is a tough one, so it is not something I want to do if I dont feel well or if it will keep my nagging injury from healing. I've never not started a race I've committed to do, so I'm a bit bummed that that seems to be where I'm heading. Plus, they have my money already!!

Be careful - if you've got a feeling it shouldn't be done, dont do it.  Your HIM is your A race - don't chance it.  but, by all means, go for it if you're ready, but it's ok to skip it too.

Keep up the good work, though!

Off training topic . . .

If those of you who are of the praying kind could say prayers for me, and others of you think positive thoughts . . .

I have applied for a new position in a southern California college. My husband and I really want to get out of here. My pay is dismal, and our living expenses keep going up. (I'm not going to blame any particular political party; I actually think that this is our "new normal," and I'm not expecting anyone to improve my financial situation but myself -- thus the proposed job change.)

The position has not been advertised, and my friend who works there doesn't think they will advertise it if they like me. They have contacted me for a phone interview, so that should happen this week or next.

It would be better for us in so many ways. As my husband said the other day, he and I have never had a re-boot. When we got married, he moved into my house. Granted, my ex husband barely lived there two years -- not even, actually -- but my husband has never really felt like it is "his" house -- even though he's lived there for seven plus years.

I just want to be sure that we make the right decision, or at least the best decision for us and our family.

Felicia - I will pray that the doors that are supposed to open, open at the right time and that opportunities will present themselves.  And, I'll pray that you kick a$$ on the interview!  You go girl!!

Sending Get the Job thoughts your way.  May one Manatee leave California for Washington to make room for another Manatee in Cali.

Good plan!

Hey ... then Felicia could be "thinking" Oceanside 70.3 instead of Kansas ...

I like it, I LIKE it!!

Sooo, got my rear kicked again in practice last night BUT I didn't get dropped!!!!!!

We did this:

1. 6:40
2. 6:55
3. 6:47
4. 6:55
5. 7:00
6. 6:30

The goal being to cruise through first 5 miles and finish fast.

Well, I wasn't exactly cruising. I think it was more like struggling to hang on for my life but I was in a pack of 4 other girls and they all seemed to be doing something similar so at least I wasn't alone. Also, my sock had slid down at some point and my shoe shaved all the skin off my right heel so I finished with a shoe full of blood.

Gotta love Wednesdays!!!!

Simply, awesome.

great work!

Oh! I got invited to a group ride this Saturday by my Masters coach. The planned route is about 25 miles and is on routes that I do on a regular basis. Some people will be doing a shorter route, it's kind of divided between people with upcoming sprints vs. OLYs. I've never been on a group ride before so there is the fear of being dropped. Also my schedule says to do 35 miles. I have 2 weeks till my OLY. Aaaaannnnnnd I only have my tri-bike.  My roadie is on long-term loan to an aspiring 13 year old triathlete.

What say the Mad-Manatees?

GO! gogogogogogogogo!

Group rides are great! Personally, group rides push me harder than I push myself and I'm ok with a shorter group ride vs a longer solo ride (within reason).  Don't worry, you'll be great, and it will be a super cool learning opportunity and a chance to meet new tri peeps!

Can't wait to hear if you did it and what you thought about it!

Yay!

Now a question for the collective wisdom of the manatees:  I'm doing a 30 mile easy bike tomorrow morning with some friends.  According to the Weather Channel, temp at 7am will be around 61 degrees, partly cloudy, winds ~8 mph.  We'll probably start the ride at 7:30.  Since we are going at a fairly leisurely pace, I'm guessing we'll be out there til near 10am. (not sure of the ability of the one person we're riding with) By 10 it is supposed to be 69 degrees, mostly sunny and winds ~10 mph.  What do I wear?  Long sleeved jersey (non-fleeced)?  Short-sleeves with arm warmers?  A light jacket (sleeves come off to create vest) with short sleeves underneath?  I'm not overly well-versed in dressing for different temps on the bike.

Here's what I'd wear in that exact situation. 60 degrees (F) at start, warming to 70 and sunny. slight breezes:

-sleveless jersey/tank (I always wear sleveless unless it's super cold) and shorts

-armwarmers

that's it!  I'm ok with being cool for the first 15 min and i don't like to haul lots of stuff around with me when i take off layers.

It IS hard sometimes to judge, and everyone there will be dressed differently.  just make sure whatver you bring can fit in your pockets or be ok with wearing them the whole ride and you'll be fine.

have fun!!

Hi crew.

Here's my RR from my sprint last sunday: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=461763

One huge bummer - no timing!  Per the race website, timing was an 'epic fail' and there are no times, no places, nothing!  Nothing can be done now, though, so MOVING ON!

Happy Friday (and happy pasta loading for some of you!!)

Thanks guys, for helping me with my clothing choice tomorrow.  I will go with short sleeves and arm warmers.  I think it will be appropritate to bust out my Dogfish Head shirt and socks since I'm riding with my beer-loving friend.  I'll make sure she has to stare at the back of my jersey ... it is so cool ... it looks like three (I think) bottles of beer are sticking out of the pockets!

Salty: what is our official homework for the weekend?  I heard pace booty and beer being tossed about as ideas.
