Needless to say I'm super disappointed (and quite a bit freaked out that I'll be out there by myself! LOL )

I have had no time to be on the computer but I'm still trudging along I got my first flat last night so tonight is 'how to change a tire' class for me

Hey guys,

Sorry for being MIA for a while, gang. I've been VERY discouraged over the situation with my shoulder. I finally saw the ortho Friday. Full details are in my log, but he basically said there's only about a 5% chance of being able to do my tri in October. So, it looks like my tri dream will have to wait for next season. On the upside, he did clear me to start running and biking again, but swimming is still on hold.

So lovely to hear from you, Terri. Changing flats is kinda fun, once you get the hang of it, like pretending it's a game and seeing how fast you can get at it... you must also be working a lot, which is probably good since you like this job a lot more than the last one.

Dearest Bunny, I'm so sorry to hear about your shoulders. That must be terribly disappointing. Road races and perhaps a du for you? Consider.

I myself need to postpone, for many reasons, my Iron dream. But I know I will do one, just like you will certainly do a tri ... just on an altered schedule, that's all. And we will both be better prepared to enjoy the experience when we get there.

Leslie, congrats on your youngest! What a beautiful pic! So much hope ...

Thank you all for continuing to support me on this current difficult journey. You guys mean so much to me. I will be getting back to earlier posts as I am able.

What's up gang! I'm out of the shadows and not lurking (so much) anymore. I hope that everyone is doing well and enjoyed there summer. It's certainly not summer for our household anymore.

Just checking back in, which I hope to do with some regularity. My workouts will be scarce but I'll be living vicariously through all of you!

Enjoy your day.

Hey!  Happy Friday everyone.  We made it through the first week of school, with flying colors.  It's nice to get into a groove, for all of us.  Next week my preschooler starts.  Then the fun really starts, hehe!

Is anyone racing this weekend?  Not me, but I hope to do a long ride and a long run.  Have a good one, everybody!

Hello all...Hope everyone is doing well (or better if you have been hurt or not feeling up to par)  Did a 10 miler this past Saturday morning  ...Wooo  Hoooo!!!  Did 4/1 run/walk and the last mile was my fastest.  Was running with Dr. Good Hands (My Chiro/friend/training partner) and she bailed at 6 miles and I was proud to have kept going to finish.

Have a Sprint in 10 days and I need to get some more H2O time and T.I.T.S. but all I can seem to focus on is the marathon in January.

I also have to decide soon if I am up to the challenge of doing my first Half Ironman next September in Augusta Ga.  It is a new race but it is only about 2.5 hours away and it is on my birthday...so maybe it is devine intervention...I don't know, but it is filling fast so I have to decide for sure by around Thanksgiving.

Everyone keep up with your hard work and support for one another.

Hi Gang

I am coming down from watching another fabulous IM WI this weekend.  The weather was awesome and there were so many BT'ers and friends of mine doing it this year that it was impossible to see them all.  I have watched this event every year and continue to be inspired by athletes of all ages, sizes and colors.  I was really happy to see Hillary Biscay win her first ever IM.  She stays with a friend of mine every year and works so hard (did IM Louisville the week before).  Pretty cool stuff.

Lots of changes are going on in our household these days so it should be an interesting Fall.

Enjoy your week!

I say sign up for the HIM!!!  The worst that can happen is you don't race. In the meantime, you have a great goal to train toward....that's my 2 cents!  Good luck...amazing job on the 10 mile run, wow!!!

Leslie, your babies are SO CUTE! So do you have all kinds of training planned now that they're out of the house for a few hours? You still need to do a half mary...

Looks like everyone's been busy and/or preoccupied lately. Things have been hectic for me between work and marathon training. But it's a good kind of hectic, mostly. I'll probably be doing one more sprint tri at the end of this month. I'm not really in the right shape for it -- my biking miles are miserable, and I haven't been in the water in over a month -- but it's a short race (or more importantly, a short swim) and I'd really like to do one more before the end of the season. I volunteered at this race last year -- it was the first tri I'd ever seen in person -- and it was so much fun and I promised myself that I'd be racing it in 2008. I don't really feel like I need to keep that promise, since I've done three tris this year, but I know I'd enjoy it.

I'm really sad that the days are getting short again! I'd gotten so spoiled running in daylight after work.

Go for the 1/2IM.  I just looked at that race online and considered it myself.  Then I decided going all that way for my first was probably a bit much.  You can give me the scoop so I can potentially put it on my list the following year!! Do it!

Hi, everybody!  We are hunkered down in our house and waiting for Ike to drop by.  It's been weird weather so far.   One minute it's sunny, the next it's drizzling rain and windy.  The wind is getting a little more steady now but so far, not too bad.  I have videotaped my entire home, inside and out.  We are ready.

I will post as soon as we come out the other side!!!

So....now that most of the races are behind us....well, not all...but you know what I mean...it is time to think about off-season training. Any words of wisdom?  I am reading a bunch of different books about it right now, trying to come up with a good plan.  I am hoping to continue to run 3-4 x a week, and swim 3 times a week, plus spin or cycleops on the bike once or twice.  I am sure it won't be more bike time than that, although my bike partner and I agreed that on a sunny winter day we'd certainly gear up and go out for a ride.  Those are rare here, though.  I am going to train as if I have a HIM in the summer and see how that goes.  If I can't do the volume I am going to drop it down without stressing.  What are the rest of you planning??  And who still has races?  I know Erin does....anybody else?

I've been thinking the same thing (which, yes, I realize is ridiculous since I still have three races for sure, including one in *December*, so my "off season" is a long ways off). It's probably obvious that I'll be run-focused in the off season, but I will want to figure out the best way to build a solid base so I can kick some major a$$ next year! I also need to decide what role biking/swimming will play in my off season. I have no idea!

So those of you who have had an off season, what have you done in the past? Leslie, I think your plan to train as though you're doing an HIM sounds great. At the very least, it'll be good experience figuring out how you handle the load.

Last year during the off season I used one of the winter maintenance training plans from BT - there are different plans that can be used to focus on a weakness or for just a balanced workout.

Next week (hopefully) I'm going to start the 8 week run focused plan, then I'll either repeat that 8 weeks or do another plan, I haven't decided yet.

GREAT idea and I think is the best way to approach things (he says as he looks at his run based plan.....instead of swimming  ;-)...sorry Beth I have one more sprint this Saturday, a half Mary in Oct. and my first full Mary in January so that is why I am run focused.

Then I am going more balanced with swim and biking through May with some sprints in the spring, my first century in June then....gulp...my first 70.3 in Augusta Ga. on September 27 (my 57th birthday as a matter of fact).
