New user 84 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Good Luck at your race tomorrow! Don't freeze to death! Good Luck. I did the run portion of a Bike, Kayak, Run today here in Central PA. http://www.chillichallenge.com/Welcome_.html Rain and 37 degrees. All trail running. 55 minutes for 4.75 mile run. I would slow down big time when I reached portions of the trail that had big tree roots on it. I was worried about twisting an ankle. Way overdressed for the run. Didn't realize how much I would heat up. But it was a cold race. Tomorrow I'll sit on the trainer for my last big bike ride. Can't wait to get to FL. Mr Steve |

Extreme Veteran 536 Russiaville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm starting to get worried about heat, the last three weeks it's been 35-50 degrees during every long workout. I think when I get to Florida 75 degree's is going to feel like 95 and my body is going to sweat like never before. I don't know what is up this year it's suppose to be around 70 this time of year and we are averaging 55 for the high this month. |

WOOHO and welcome to BT....can't wait to meet you I have been lurking on this thread for a while now from the UK reading with interest all the fascinating and interesting posts! Florida Ironman will be my first. I did a couple of 'tri's' in 1999 but have been a long distance runner since. I decided that to 'celebrate' my 40th birthday I would do an Ironman! This year I have only competed in a Olympic and half Ironman, but hope this will be enough. With marathon running I have always been self coached but decided Ironman training is a completely different proposition so got myself a coach. This has worked well as the programme has kept me in check and not get carried away. She has predicted a frightening sub 11 but reading reports I realise so much can and invariably does go wrong! Hope everyone has a great race and achieves their dream goals, and a big thanks for providing me with so much invaluable info via this thread! |

In the end I think it all balances out. |

Regular 70 in a pool, on a bike, or up the trail | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread eburg - 2009-10-16 8:05 AM Who is freaking out about catching a cold or worse? Luckily I work from home and live alone so I can avoid the entire human race on a daily basis. Kidding. [mostly] But I am getting more and more paranoid about things in general. More than illness is injury. Every time I go out for a ride I think some car or dog or squirrel or wet leaves or pebble in the road is going to take me down. I gotta stop that or it's going to end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy! |

Regular 70 in a pool, on a bike, or up the trail | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread rpm1418 - 2009-10-17 4:46 PM Yes, last long run complete, only have 1 more long bike and 1 more long swim then taper baby! I did 20 mile run today, the last long one. All I can say is... OWWWWWW! My heels are killing me. I'm pretty sure I will have to walk quite a bit to finish, but that's OK. I expected that going in. Sunday is the full swim. 170 mind-numbingly boring laps. Not bothering with a final long bike. I've done multiple centuries and tons of mountain riding. More than prepared for 112 flat miles. Question: what's everybody's first week taper run distance? I was going to do a half mary, but cut it down to 10; 1/2 of my longest run. |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Good morning boys and girls. FYI: - Todays forecast for PCB is 46/65, sunny, winds 15-25 mph - Looking at the 10 day forecast Oct 27 = 62/80 partly cloudy - The buoy at PCB has a current temperature reading of 76.5 degrees - According to the countdown clock we will be hitting 19 days and change today - Exactly three weeks from today our journey will be done (and it will be on to the next one) Happy Sunday all, I am off to work. |

New user 101 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Be safe out there folks. Enjoy those last long workouts. Personally, I am already in the taper portion of my plan. With the weather, that meant a 3.5 hour trainer ride followed by a 6 mile T-run yesterday. Today will be a 2 hour run. Come on Florida!! |

I wish that was true, but I live in north central Indiana and it's as flat as a pancake. In fact I was suppose to do 5 minute hill repeats and couldn't find a hill that took me more than 2 minutes too climb. I think the bridge on the florida course will be the biggest hill I climb. |

And slept really fitfully. Too much twitching and pain. Really looking forward to three weeks of taper to heal my damaged feets and legs. Time to increase the yoga. Gonna splurge for a couple massages too. |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Had an excellent long run (18 miles) today! Beautiful weather, and even though it was the hilliest route I've run in a while, my pace was nice, and my legs weren't too beat up from my 101 mile ride yesterday. Tons of hills on the ride and some killer chip seal that rattled me to the core (I'm used to Tx chip seal, but this stuff was disgusting), so I expected today's run to really put the hurt on me, but not so much!! Yay!! Not quite to taper yet, but it's now within tasting distance. This is the last "big weekend" so the next time I do this much biking/running in one weekend it will be on 7 Nov! I also had a 5000m swim set earlier this week, and while I was worn out come the end of it, my shoulders/arms, etc. weren't demolished the next day. So, some good confidence building this week, and a tad bit of sun-burn! Be safe everyone. Oh, and I had to get the flu mist two weeks ago--didn't cause any bad side effects to me, but I'm hoping that keeps the flu away. But, I am attempting to avoid crowded places and any activity that might get me hurt. |

Thats a good thing since my legs are pretty sore ... not really from the bike on Saturday but from some strength training I did on Friday!! Time for an easier schedule!! Do you ever feel like you didn't do enough?? Am I the only one afraid that I could go out for another week and do some long rides and runs and it will make a difference?? |

This is a perpetual thought that echos through my head. At this point there is not a lot I can do about it so I figure if nothing else it will give me a reference point for any future races. Although I have been following your blog and as far as I can tell you have done all the right things to prepare for this one! I think you are going to open up a can of whoop-a@# on Ironman Florida 2009! |
