HawkeyeNation - 2011-08-31 11:14 AM Just received an email from the WTC stating I was given a low bib # (125) for being a first responder, I am a career firefighter, thought was pretty cool, 9/11 is a day of remeberance for many of us and it means alot to me to be able to do an ironman on the anniversary of such a tragic day in our history and in the fire service! Just thought I would share, thought it was cool by the WTC..

Smart move by them.  One of my training partners is a career firefighter.  You guys rock.

It's always fun to do the weather watch. As of yesterday race day was forecasted to be a high of 62 and overcast. Today the forecast is 76 and sunny. Stay tuned!

Received the same e-mail update, another cool benefit we are getting is the rock star transition spots.  We are going to be adjacent to the pros.  This will cut of at least two minutes in T1.

I come from a family of firefighters, police officers, active military, and my best half is retired military. I am proud to wear my Donkey 9/11 jersey and to be racing on such a memorable but tragic day in our nations history.

Hi All

For those who ordered tracking devices from MYATHLETE, I just received an email that they are experiencing issues related to Irene so shipping will be delayed.  They will not be shipping units out until 9/6 with the goal of having them arrive on 9/9.  If you ordered one and did not get the email, I suggest you contact them and include your invoice #.  It seems all of their systems are currently down.

mndiver - 2011-08-31 6:10 PM Thanks for the service guys. I'll be proudly rocking the 911 TriDonkai jerseys also. Be sure to say hi on the course.

You should see a large number of the selected service members wearing a special 9/11 event jersey during the event.  They were custom designed for the event, thanks to the Madison Police department for putting this together.  They were able to get permission to use the national 9/11 flag / image for the jersey.  We should be picking them up later this week.  I can't wait to see it and wear it during the race.

I had to choose between the TriDonkai and the aforementioned jersey, both great ideas, but for this race the 9/11 won out. Can't wait to give an EAAAW to the fellow donks out on the course though

Just wanted to chime in - I used a MYATHLETE GPS for Louisville Sunday... if your spectators have an iPad it works on the iPad so much better than the iPhone. That is what my cheerleaders told me anyway. They said it seemed to work very well - the icon changes when you are stopped vs. moving, but the iPhone user did not see that. The iPhone user also did not see the pre-loaded course on his screen; could only see where I was at that time. Seems iPad and desk computer users could see the course pre-laid out on Google so they knew where I was going, as opposed to just where I was currently. Useful if your people aren't familiar with the course.

Only one glitch where it looked like I was stopped for 5+ minutes on the run but I wasn't (at least I don't remember stopping for that long LOL!) -then it caught back up with me.

Mine did fall out of the pouch on the run once, so just be aware of the bouncing and movement. I had to tighten up my race belt on the run so it wouldn't bounce so much.

EDIT: GAWD I am excited for you all! I am halfway thinking of flying up there again if I can find a super discounted airfare. I have been at IMWI for 3 years in a row, would be a shame for me not to be there this year!

To all:

I have great news and bad news. The bad news is I will no longer be participating in Ironman Wisconsin.

The great news: NBC and Ironman contacted me about my winning the Ford ironman training team award. They are making me an inspirational athlete in their yearly World Championship in Kona instead.

This is a dream come true.
